  49ers | Jeff Wilson Jr. re-ups    Tue Jan 26, 06:55 PM

San Francisco 49ers RB Jeff Wilson Jr. signed a one-year contract Tuesday, Jan. 26, but financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: He was scheduled to be a restricted free agent at the end of the league year. Instead, Wilson is staying with the 49ers where he can be a valuable reserve player they can trust as a spot starter.

Raiders | Keelan Doss back with Las Vegas    Tue Jan 26, 04:57 PM

Free-agent WR Keelan Doss signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Footballguys view: Doss was thrust into the lineup for the Raiders back in 2019 but has mainly been a practice squad player for them. We'll monitor him but only in super deep dynasty formats.

Bills | Buffalo inks 13 to futures deals    Tue Jan 26, 04:52 PM

Free-agent OT Trey Adams, TE Nate Becker, RBs Christian Wade and Antonio Williams, DT Brandin Bryant, DEs Bryan Cox Jr. and Mike Love, WRs Tanner Gentry, Jake Kumerow and Duke Williams, CB Dane Jackson, S Josh Thomas and QB Davis Webb signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Footballguys view: Gentry was a favorite target of QB Josh Allen in college at the University of Wyoming. He's a try-hard slot receiver who has bounced around the league. Let's see if working with Allen again can help him stick on a roster.

Packers | Green Bay adds six via futures deals    Tue Jan 26, 04:38 PM

Free-agent WRs Reggie Begelton and Juwann Winfree, C Jake Hanson, PK JJ Molson, CB KeiVarae Russell and DL Delontae Scott signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Footballguys view: Winfree was an intriguing late-round prospect when the Broncos drafted him a couple of years ago. He needs to stay healthy (that was a problem for him in Denver) but we'll continue to monitor him in super deep dynasty formats.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers unlikely to leave Green Bay    Tue Jan 26, 03:48 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is almost certain to remain with the team in 2021, according to comments made by team president and chief executive officer Mark Murphy on Tuesday, Jan. 26.'I'll say this: There's no way in heck that Aaron is not going to be on the Packers. I mean, he is going to be the MVP of the league, might have had his best year ever. He's our unquestioned leader and, you know, we're not idiots,' Murphy told WNFL Radio.

Footballguys view: Things seem cold right now between Rodgers and the Packers, but that might not really be the case. Rodgers kind of softened some of his comments in a recent interview with Pat Mcafee. He's too important to that team and those fans, so we have a feeling things will stay in place. Let's see if the future changes that.

49ers | Nick Mullens underwent surgery in December    Tue Jan 26, 03:30 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Nick Mullens - an impending free agent - underwent elbow surgery in late December of 2020, and the damage was not as extensive as initially feared. As a result, he was able to avoid Tommy John surgery and is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Footballguys view: Mullens might have lost some money in the 2020 season. He was once again thrust into action as a starter this past season but did not look good. Mullens might not be more than a below-average backup.

Rams | GM refuses to commit to Jared Goff    Tue Jan 26, 02:47 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff is not guaranteed a roster spot for the 2021 season, according to comments made by general manager Les Snead on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Snead reportedly declined to provide a yes/no answer when he was 'asked repeatedly that there's a scenario' where Goff wouldn't be on the roster and referenced a recent quote from Aaron Rodgers about the future being 'a beautiful mystery,' according to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.

Footballguys view: It would be tough to get rid of Goff due to the salary cap, but where there's a will there's a way. Things seem shaky right now for Goff and the Rams, but that could all clear up by the time free agency starts.

Chiefs | Le'Veon Bell to play    Tue Jan 26, 12:33 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) is expected to be ready to play in Super Bowl LV, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Bell will give the team veteran depth behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He likely won't do much in the Super Bowl.

Chiefs | Sammy Watkins expected to go    Tue Jan 26, 12:31 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins (calf) is expected to be ready to play in Super Bowl LV, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Whether or not Watkins plays is pretty much irrelevant for the Chiefs offense. They are explosive with him on the field, and they have no problem making plays when he misses time...and he misses quite a bit of time.

Buccaneers | Antonio Brown should be ready    Tue Jan 26, 12:29 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown (knee) is expected to be ready to play in Super Bowl LV, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Brown had to miss the NFC Championship Game and now with more time to get healthy we should see him in the big game. That means Scotty Miller or Tyler Johnson might get fewer snaps in the Super Bowl.

Packers | Jordan Love not ready    Tue Jan 26, 11:12 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love would not be the front runner to be the starting quarterback if QB Aaron Rodgers left, in the opinion of beat writer Rob Demovsky. Love struggled with accuracy in practice all season, and quarterback Tim Boyle would be more suited to open the season as starter.

Footballguys view: Boyle was the backup to Aaron Rodgers for the 2020 season. Love was a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft out of Utah State, but he was obviously raw last year at the Senior Bowl and needs more time to develop. Rogers said in an interview "I don't think that there's any reason I wouldn't be back." Stay tuned.

NFL | Martavis Bryant heads to CFL    Tue Jan 26, 03:06 AM

Free-agent WR Martavis Bryant (Raiders) signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League Monday, Jan. 25.

Footballguys view: Bryant has not played since 2018 as the NFL has indefinitely suspended him. He applied for reinstatement in 2019 but now finds himself making a trip up North to keep playing. Perhaps if he performs well in Canada then he could get back to the NFL. It's more likely that his playing days in the NFL are done.

Bears | Cordarrelle Patterson may return    Mon Jan 25, 10:17 PM

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB/WR Cordarrelle Patterson is likely a player the Bears will look to re-sign this offseason.

Footballguys view: Patterson's new deal won't break the bank. He has versatility on offense and can contribute on special teams. The former first-round pick has never played up to his draft status, but it seems like he's become a solid player for the Bears.

Titans | Marvin Jones an option for TEN?    Mon Jan 25, 09:56 PM

Detroit Lions impending free-agent WR Marvin Jones could be an option for the Tennessee Titans if the Titans decide not to re-sign impending free-agent WR Corey Davis this offseason, in the opinion of's Turron Davenport.

Footballguys view: Davis could move on in free agency, leaving a hole in the WR corps opposite of A.J. Brown. Jones will be looking for a fresh start, and going to Tennessee would make a lot of sense. As in most cases, it will all come down to money and what kind of contract Jones demands on the open market.

Football Team | Kyle Allen out of boot    Mon Jan 25, 09:21 PM

Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen (ankle) is no longer wearing a walking boot on his surgically repaired ankle.

Free-agent WR Jake Kumerow, RB Antonio Williams and WR Tanner Gentry signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Buffalo Bills Monday, Jan. 25, according to sources. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Gentry was Josh Allen's favorite target in college at the University of Wyoming. He's bounced around the league a bit during his short time in the pros. Perhaps reuniting with Allen will help him stick on a roster.

Ravens | Gus Edwards likely to receive tender    Mon Jan 25, 08:09 PM

Baltimore Ravens restricted free-agent RB Gus Edwards likely will receive a tender offer this offseason, but the team may need to use the first-round or second-round tender offer on Edwards.

Footballguys view: We'll see how much they want to keep Edwards around as a rotational player with J.K. Dobbins. The team would not receive any compensation if they used the original-round tender because Edwards was an undrafted free agent.

NFL | Kyle Trask to miss Senior Bowl    Mon Jan 25, 08:08 PM

Florida QB Kyle Trask (ankle) will not participate in the Senior Bowl because of an ankle injury.

Footballguys view: Trask is a pocket passer with confidence and accuracy. He's seen as a mid-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft but with a good performance at the Senior Bowl he could've snuck into the second round.

Ravens | Two may compete for No. 2 QB job    Mon Jan 25, 06:26 PM

Baltimore Ravens QB Tyler Huntley and Trace McSorley may compete for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp, according to general manager Eric DeCosta. DeCosta did not rule out the possibility of signing a veteran quarterback at some point.

Footballguys view: Huntley was thrust into action in the playoffs when Lamar Jackson was hurt and showed the game is not too big for him. Both quarterbacks are mobile and can damage a defense with their legs. We'll see how that competition shakes out in training camp next season.

Ravens | Mark Andrews may receive extension    Mon Jan 25, 06:25 PM

Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews is one of the players the team will try to sign to a contract extension, according to general manager Eric DeCosta.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Andrews, a third-round pick out of Oklahoma in the 2018 NFL draft, is not only a favorite target of QB Lamar Jackson but he's one of the best tight ends in the game. Heading into a contract year in 2021, Andrews could get paid sooner rather than later in a move that would ultimately save the Ravens money so long as Andrews continues to play at a high level.

Packers | Ten sign futures deals with Green Bay    Mon Jan 25, 05:17 PM

Free-agent LBs Tipa Galeai and De'Jon Harris, OG Zack Johnson, TE Isaac Nauta, DLs Willington Previlon and Anthony Rush, RBs Mike Weber and Dexter Williams, CB Stanford Samuels and P Ryan Winslow signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Green Bay Packers on Monday, Jan. 25.

Footballguys view: Weber and Williams are players to watch in super deep dynasty formats. Partly because of their skill but partly because the Packers running back room is going to look different in 2021. Both Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are set to be unrestricted free agents this offseason.

Chargers | Joe Lombardi tabbed to run LAC offense    Mon Jan 25, 04:35 PM

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi agreed to terms to become the new offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Jan. 25.

Footballguys view: Lombardi has been a rising star in coaching circles over the last five years with the Saints. He'll be in charge of running an offense with potential superstar quarterback Justin Herbert. His relationship with Herbert will be key, but Lombardi has learned a lot working with Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford (for one year) before that.

Steelers | Pittsburgh settles on Matt Canada to run offense    Mon Jan 25, 03:19 PM

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Matt Canada is reportedly finalizing a deal with the team to become the offensive coordinator Monday, Jan. 25.

Footballguys view: Canada has worked in the college ranks for years and will get a larger role with the Steelers. His fresh perspective could help jump-start the Steelers offense. Canada will be working with an aging Ben Roethlisberger, but having young wide receivers like Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson and James Washington should help.

Bills | Cole Beasley played with serious leg injury    Mon Jan 25, 02:07 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (leg) told reporters Monday, Jan. 25, that he broke his fibula in Week 16 but that it wasn't a full break. He also added that he won't need surgery.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Anyone who watched Beasley during the playoffs could tell that he wasn't quite himself. It's good news he doesn't need surgery, so with some rest we'll see him come back as a favorite target of QB Josh Allen once again in 2021.

Panthers | Two Carolina assistants to miss Senior Bowl    Mon Jan 25, 01:18 PM

Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady and linebackers coach Mike Siravo will not make the trip to the Senior Bowl in Mobile (Ala.) due to issues related to COVID-19, according to a team spokesperson.

Footballguys view: The Senior Bowl is happening this week in Mobile, AL with the Panthers and Dolphins coaching staffs in place to coach the teams. Every team in the league will be sending as many scouts as possible, although there will be teams who send fewer scouts due to COVID-19.

Lions | Duce Staley hired in Detroit    Mon Jan 25, 11:53 AM

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley was hired as assistant head coach/running backs for the Detroit Lions Monday, Jan. 25.

Footballguys view: Dan Campbell, new Lions head coach, is putting together a helluva staff. Former Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has signed on as the offensive coordinator, and now Staley comes on board to help run the offense and the backfield. Staley has been thought of as a potential head coach but was passed over with the Eagles. Now, he'll join a new staff and a new team to further advance his career.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson to begin contract talks    Mon Jan 25, 10:19 AM

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson could sign an extension this offseason, according to general manager Eric DeCosta, who will begin talks with Jackson in 10 days.

Footballguys view: That's been expected for quite some time. The work to get Jackson signed will likely go to the summer. He will be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league when his new contract is in place.

Chiefs | Eric Fisher out    Mon Jan 25, 07:58 AM

Kansas City Chiefs OT Eric Fisher (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' in the AFC Championship game, and he'll miss the rest of the season.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the Chiefs as they're headed for the Super Bowl. Fisher will miss most of the offseason recovering from his injury and his availability for the start of the 2021 regular season is in doubt.

Packers | Green Bay falls in NFC title game    Sun Jan 24, 06:24 PM

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 33-of-48 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Aaron Jones, who left the game early due to injury, left the team with 27 yards on six rushes. RB Jamaal Williams ran seven times for 23 yards and added four receptions for 22 yards. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling led the way with a game-high 115 yards on four receptions and a score, while WR Davante Adams had nine grabs for 67 yards and a score on 15 targets. WR Allen Lazard checked in with three receptions for 62 yards, while TE Marcedes Lewis had three grabs for 28 yards. TE Robert Tonyan also checked in with four grabs, 22 yards and a score. CB Jaire Alexander led the way with two interceptions, while totaling three total tackles and three passes defensed.

Footballguys view: Rodgers had a lot of chances to take control of this game in the second half after his team fell behind 18 points, but the Packers offense wasn't good enough in the red zone and Matt LaFleur chose to kick a field goal instead of going for it on fourth and goal at the 8, down 8 with about two minutes left. Jones has probably played his last down as a Packer, and Williams is also a free agent. Valdes-Scantling had a big game after playing only one snap the NFC title game last year. Adams impact on the game was not as big as expected and if anything Rodgers overreliance on him in the red zone hurt the team. The Packers will go back to the drawing board after getting one game from the Super Bowl two years in a row.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay headed for Super Bowl LV    Sun Jan 24, 06:10 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady completed 20-of-36 passes for 280 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Jan. 24. It will be his 10th Super Bowl appearance, and the Bucs are the first team to play the game in their home stadium. RB Leonard Fournette ran 12 times for 55 yards and a touchdown while adding five receptions for 19 yards, RB Ronald Jones rushed 10 times for 16 yards, WR Chris Godwin racked up five receptions for a team-best 110 yards on nine targets and WR Mike Evans added three receptions for 51 yards and a score on eight targets. WR Scott Miller also cashed in his three targets for two catches, 36 yards and a touchdown, while TE Rob Gronkowski was limited to one catch for 29 yards on his lone target. TE Cameron Brate picked up three grabs for 19 yards and a score, while WR Tyler Johnson rounded things out with one catch for 16 yards. LB Devin White led the way defensively with a staggering game-high 15 total tackles, including nine of the solo variety.

Footballguys view: Brady wasn't the reason the Bucs won, but he did have two good long passes to offset his three interceptions, which his defense did a great job of minimizing in the story of the outcome of the game. Leonard Fournette goes to the Super Bowl with Tom Brady after his 2017 Jaguars team was ousted by Brady. Godwin had great hands deep on his key play early, while Evans hands were more suspect, although the interception off of his hands in the red zone was more on Brady than him. Tampa Bay will be the first team to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs have declared RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Sammy Watkins, CB Thakarius Keyes, DE Tim Ward, DL Khalen Saunders, LB Willie Gay and OG Yasir Durant inactive for Conference Championships.

Packers | Aaron Jones suffers injury    Sun Jan 24, 04:58 PM

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (chest) suffered a chest injury during the NFC Championship game and is considered questionable to return.

Rams | John Johnson may be too expensive    Sun Jan 24, 04:28 PM

Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent S John Johnson may be too expensive for the Rams to re-sign this offseason because they have limited salary cap space. The team could consider placing the franchise tag on Johnson.

Footballguys view: Standout corner Darious Williams will also be a restricted free agent and could draw a big offer sheet unless the Rams tender him at a first round level.

Texans | New HC not a factor for Deshaun Watson    Sun Jan 24, 01:04 PM

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson is still expected to seek a trade no matter who the Texans hire has their next head coach, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins and Jets are the most likely teams to land Watson as the biggest story of the offseason continues to unfold.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is expected to be traded this offseason, and the New England Patriots likely will least inquire about Stafford's availability, in the opinion of's Mike Reiss.

Footballguys view: The Patriots are at a crossroads as a franchise and their quarterback decision will tell a lot about where Bill Belichick thinks they are.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes to visit specialist    Sun Jan 24, 11:51 AM

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe) was diagnosed with a case of turf toe on his left foot after last week's Divisional Round playoff game versus the Cleveland Browns. Even though he took the majority of snaps during practice this week, he is scheduled to see a specialist at the end of the season to determine if he'll need to undergo surgery.

Footballguys view: This could be a key to the game because Mahomes is at his most dangerous on the move and he likes to make lots of off platform throws that rely on precision.

Eagles | Duce Staley wants to be released from contract    Sun Jan 24, 11:42 AM

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley has asked to be released from his contract so that he can pursue other coaching opportunities. Several NFL teams have expressed interest in him, including the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. Staley is expected to speak with owner Jeffrey Lurie soon about the matter.

Footballguys view: Staley smartly sees that his future with the Eagles isn't going to lead to a promotion if it didn't after the team let Doug Pederson go.

Eagles | Jonathan Gannon named defensive coordinator    Sun Jan 24, 10:21 AM

Updating a previous report, the Philadelphia Eagles hired Indianapolis Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon to be their new defensive coordinator Sunday, Jan. 24.

Footballguys view: Gannon was pivotal in the development of Kenny Moore and instant hit 2020 third-round pick Julian Blackmon, and got some good football out of Xavier Rhodes. He'll follow Nick Sirianni from the Colts to the Eagles and hopefully help a secondary that has been beleaguered at times in recent years.

Bills | Gabriel Davis stretching the field    Sat Jan 23, 11:35 PM

Buffalo Bills WR Gabriel Davis' 17.1 yards per reception this season ranked fourth among qualified players.

Falcons | Calvin Ridley delivered big plays    Sat Jan 23, 11:12 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley's 23 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2020 were tied for the league lead.

Washington Football Team RB J.D. McKissic's 589 receiving yards and 80 receptions trailed only New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara among running backs in 2020.

Footballguys view: McKissic was signed to a two-year deal, so he'll be back with Antonio Gibson next year and should be drafted in every PPR league.

Raiders | Josh Jacobs lacked explosiveness    Sat Jan 23, 10:19 PM

Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs' 3.9 yards per carry and three runs of 20-plus yards were both the fewest among the eight backs who reached 1,000 rushing yards in 2020.

Footballguys view: Jacobs went in the first round of some 2020 fantasy drafts on hopes of an even better year running the ball and newfound opportunity in the passing game but it never came together. He might be available in the third round in 2021 drafts.

Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins led all running backs with an average of 6.0 yards per carry in 2020, and his 805 rushing yards and nine touchdowns were the most among backs with fewer than 150 carries.

Footballguys view: Dobbins will still available outside of the top 10 running backs in most 2021 fantasy drafts and could take a big step forward even if he shared again with restricted free agent Gus Edwards.

Browns | Myles Garrett tough to slow down    Sat Jan 23, 09:25 PM

Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett was double-teamed on 26 percent of his pass rush attempts in 2020 and ranked third in the NFL in pass rush win rate.

Footballguys view: Like Aaron Donald, Garrett was less than 100% for his team's playoff departure, which stings because the game was so close. The Browns were smart to lock him with a second deal before he got close to the open market.

Rams | Aaron Donald in a league of his own    Sat Jan 23, 09:12 PM

Los Angeles DT Aaron Donald faced more double-teams when rushing the passer than any defensive tackle in the NFL in 2020 and posted pass rush wins at the highest rate of any player.

Footballguys view: Donald being less than 100% for the divisional round loss to the Packers was a big letdown for him and the potential for a more competitive game. He's the best in the game at his position and probably the best defensive player in the game period.

Colts | Jacoby Brissett will have chance to start    Sat Jan 23, 07:23 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett will be under consideration to be the starting quarterback in 2021, according to general manager Chris Ballard. 'I don't want to discount Jacoby,' Ballard said. 'We still like Jacoby Brissett and think he's a good player. Let's not take Jacoby out of the mix completely here.'

Footballguys view: Brissett is a top end backup, but he might only be an adequate starter, which would be a disappointing route for a team in a Super Bowl window to take. Brissett has some value in 2QB/Superflex leagues, but in 1QB leagues he would be a pedestrian option at best.

Panthers | Teddy Bridgewater not guaranteed to start    Sat Jan 23, 07:18 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater will be evaluated as new general manager Scott Fitterer assesses the current roster and isn't guaranteed to be the starter for the 2021 season. 'I'm not going to get into hypotheticals, but what I will tell you is we will be on every deal,' Fitterer said when talking about being aggressive in transactions this offseason. 'We're going to look at a lot of people, bring a lot of people in the building, really churn the roster on the back end. Just really take a look at a lot of different people to see what's out there, what fits our team and how we can build this going forward.'

Footballguys view: Really he shouldn't unless the Panthers have no other choice. Bridgewater's limitations in arm strength and red zone play held back the offense and the Panthers should try to upgrade at the position this offseason.

Updating a previous story, Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is likely to be traded before the fifth day of the 2021 league year in March, when he is due a $10 million bonus.

Lions | Matthew Stafford likely done in DET    Sat Jan 23, 06:11 PM

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has expressed a desire for a fresh start and the team plans to begin exploring trade possibilities in the coming weeks, according to sources Saturday, Jan. 23.

Footballguys view: A trade would make sense for both sides as Stafford shouldn't be interested in another rebuild at this point in his career and new general manager Brad Holmes should want more material to craft the roster in his image. Washington, San Francisco, Indianapolis, and Denver should be very interested with at least 4-5 potential suitors if not a lot more. Stafford could change a team's trajectory as much as Tom Brady did last year.
