Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels (knee) underwent an MRI exam on his knee Friday, Sept. 12. According to 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen, he was limping noticeably at the end of Week 2's game versus the Green Bay Packers. Results of the exam are not yet known.
Footballguys view: Daniels completed 24-of-42 passes for 200 yards with two touchdowns in the Commanders' 27-18, Week 2 loss to the Packers. On the ground, Daniels only had 17 yards rushing. We'll see if the results reveal any further concerns here. It's not the news you wanted after two contests, and we hope it's much ado about nothing. Stay tuned. |

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. opened the coaches' eyes to things they didn't know he possessed, according to head coach Raheem Morris. One of them was his ability to process defensive looks and find the right receiver.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers QB Jordan Love connected on 19 of his 31 passing attempts for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders. Love also ran three times for 12 yards.
Footballguys view: Love had one touchdown called back by a holding penalty (he also lost Jayden Reed for a good part of the season on the play after he broke his collarbone making the catch), and uncharacteristically missed an open Matthew Golden for a score on fourth down on a play that was delayed because Kingsley Enagbare ran on the field thinking the team would attempt a field goal. There was a bigger game there for Love in fantasy even though the Packers led comfortably in the second half against a 2024 playoff team for the second straight week. Love's fantasy value is growing, but the quality of the Packers defense and Josh Jacobs penchant for finishing drives could slightly cap Love's upside. In light of this result, we have to think the Giants offense is even worse than we thought because everything came so easy for the Packers in the passing game - even without Jayden Reed for a good part of the game. Love has his first true test of the season at Cleveland next week. |

Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels completed 24 of 42 passes for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. Daniels, who took four sacks, ran seven times for 17 yards as well.
Footballguys view: One of the two touchdowns came in garbage time. The Packers have blown out two of the 2024 NFC playoff teams to begin the season, and two multi-faceted, high-powered offenses have been left without ways to move the ball consistently against the controlled chaos the Packers defense creates. Daniels did very little until the last 19 minutes of the game. It's scary to imagine what the Packers defense is going to do to the Browns next week, but Daniels should bounce back against the Raiders. |

Link to storyBaltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson will have no action taken against him by the NFL for shoving a fan in the first row of the stands during Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. The Ravens have handled the incident internally, according to Florio.
Footballguys view: Jackson avoids any discipline, so he's good to go. The fan pushed DeAndre Hopkins helmet as they walked by, and Jackson exchanged some shoves. The NFL has banned the fan from games, and Jackson is going to be out there in Week 2 against the Browns. He's a set-it-and-forget-it starter with the upside to be the best fantasy quarterback every week. |

San Francisco 49ers QB Mac Jones will start Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints.
Footballguys view: Kyle Shanahan reportedly loved Jones coming out of college, but the front office decided to move up for Trey Lance. Now, Jones gets to prove Shanahan right as the team's starter. Purdy is week-to-week with a variation of turf toe, so Jones could be in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future. |

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (foot) has been ruled out for Week 2.
Footballguys view: 49ers GM John Lynch did say Purdy's injury is a week-to-week basis. Purdy is out in Week 2, and his status for the next month or so is up in the air. In the meantime, Mac Jones will start for the 49ers. A favorite of Kyle Shanahan when he came out of college, Jones will have an opportunity to impress in a good system. |
Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (toe) is out two to five weeks with a variant of turf toe.
Footballguys view: 49ers GM John Lynch said Purdy was going to be week-to-week with this injury. Mac Jones starts for the 49ers while Purdy misses time. |

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (shoulder, toe) appears to be a long shot to play in the Week 2 game and could be sidelined for several weeks, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: With Purdy likely out, Mac Jones should get the start for the 49ers. Much like Sam Darnold, Jones was supposedly a favorite of Shanahan coming out of college. The Shanahan system can elevate the play of the quarterback, so it will be interesting to see how Jones operates the offense. He's a low-end QB2 for Fantasy GMs who play in start-2 QB or superflex leagues. |

New York Giants QB Russell Wilson will remain the starting quarterback for Week 2 as head coach Brian Daboll said rookie QB Jaxson Dart remains the QB2.
Footballguys view: The Giants have committed to Wilson for one more week...which is a bad sign because it's Week 2! The offensive line is not great, and that's not going to help an aging Wilson. It's only a matter of time before Dart sees the field, and behind that line he's going to be tested when that happens. |

Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold dropped back to pass 26 times in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, but he used play-action just two times. That's a 7.7 percent play-action rate, which was the lowest among all 33 NFL quarterbacks in Week 1. The two times Darnold used play-action, he hit WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 21-yard completion, and he had a 5-yard scramble which led to a first down.
Footballguys view: It would make sense if the Seahawks ran more play-action fakes for Darnold to attack down the field. It's a Klint Kubiak offense, so that should mean tons of play-action passing. Darnold can work in Kubiak's offense, but things were a bit off in Week 1. Let's see if they can clean it up for Week 2 against the Steelers. Fantasy GMs aren't starting Darnold unless they're in start-2 QB leagues (and he's a low-end no2 QB). |

Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams completed 21 of his 35 pass attempts for 211 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions in a Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Williams also led the team with 58 yards and a touchdown on six rushes.
Footballguys view: Williams started Monday's loss with 10 straight completions for 86 yards before the offense sputtered. ESPN.com's Courtney Cronin explained that Ben Johnson can design a script that gets multiple players involved and helps his team start fast, but Chicago couldn't build a commanding lead. Part of that has to do with a lack of run support and Williams reverting to old habits, like scrambling and trying to make a big play downfield instead of taking easy completions. Johnson must find ways to scheme around those weaknesses when he faces his former team, the Lions, in Week 2. |
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy completed 13 of 20 passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a come-from-behind win over the Chicago Bears in Week 1. McCarthy also ran twice for 25 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown.
Footballguys view: For three quarters, McCarthy looked lost. As NFL.com's Nick Shook noted, Minnesota's offense was a no-show, reaching the fourth quarter with just 85 total yards. Then, a questionable pass interference penalty and some much-needed simplification sparked McCarthy, who began firing more accurate passes, including his first scoring toss through a tighter-than-usual window. The turnaround was stunning, and much of it depended on McCarthy's moxie. After three ugly quarters, the fourth showed us why Kevin O'Connell was confident that McCarthy was his man. It'll be interesting to see how McCarthy and the Vikings build on this win. |
Cincinnati Bengals OG Lucas Patrick (calf) will miss at least one week because of the calf injury he suffered during the Week 1 game, according to head coach Zac Taylor.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (shoulder, toe) suffered a shoulder and toe injury during the Week 1 game, and his availability for Week 2 is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: According to local reports, the toe injury is more severe, and the quarterback is considered day-to-day. Mac Jones will start if Purdy cannot play. Jones has recent experience stepping in for a starting quarterback, appearing in 10 games in place of Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville last season and posting an even 8-8 TD-INT ratio in those games. He could be a viable pivot, especially against the Saints in Week 2. Remember, however, the Niners will be without TE George Kittle (hamstring) for 3-5 weeks, and Jauan Jennings' (shoulder) status is uncertain. We'll be monitoring the team closely this week. |
