49ers | George Kittle not making progress in talks    Mon Aug 10, 09:31 PM

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle has not made much progress in contract extension talks with the 49ers at this point, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: Kittle is in the final year of his rookie contract but he's not going anywhere. We're expecting him to reset the tight end market when a new contract is done.

Dolphins | Miami adding Nate Wieting    Mon Aug 10, 04:43 PM

Former Cleveland Browns TE Nate Wieting was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins Monday, Aug. 10, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Wieting was picked up as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa in 2020. He's not like other Iowa TEs in the league like George Kittle, T.J. Hockenson or Noah Fant. In four seasons with the Hawkeyes, Wieting went from walk on to starter but only caught 13 total passes in his career. He was often banged up in college, having surgeries on his shoulder, knee and foot. He'll be a long-shot for the Dolphins roster and may just be looking to impress enough to stay around on the practice squad.

Patriots | New England taking a look at two free agents    Mon Aug 10, 01:22 PM

Free-agent TE Jordan Leggett (Buccaneers) and DT Darius Kilgo (Lions) are visiting with the New England Patriots on Monday, Aug. 10. If all goes well with the COVID-19 testing and physicals, then the expectation is the Patriots will sign both, according to sources via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: The Patriots have a pair of talented rookies at the tight end position (Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene) but they may want more experience in the room. Leggett has always had potential as a pro player but he's far from played up to said potential.

49ers | Jordan Reed officially part of SF    Sun Aug 9, 04:39 PM

Free-agent TE Jordan Reed (Football Team) officially signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Aug. 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Don't let this change your view of George Kittle. Reed could help patch up the injuries and inexperience at slot receiver as much as he could force his way into two tight end sets and take a few targets away from Kittle.

Browns | Michael Dunn joins Cleveland    Sun Aug 9, 04:31 PM

Free-agent OG Michael Dunn (Dolphins) signed with the Cleveland Browns Sunday, Aug. 9. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived TE Nate Wieting.

Football Team | Logan Thomas ready to practice    Sun Aug 9, 02:24 PM

Washington Football Team TE Logan Thomas was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Thomas has a chance to lead the Washington tight ends in receptions. The former quarterback has flashed excellent hands and athleticism in a small sample with the Lions. Leading the Washington tight end group is still probably not a path to fantasy relevance, but Thomas is worth monitoring in deep tight end premium leagues.

Lions | T.J. Hockenson back on roster    Sat Aug 8, 05:17 PM

Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Aug. 8.

Footballguys view: Hockenson had some big-time flashes last year as a rookie. He's got the talent to be one of the best tight ends in the league, but Hockenson needs to stay healhty and gel further with QB Matthew Stafford. Hockenson played in 12 games last year before an ankle injury ended his first pro season. In mid-June, Hockenson was back to running routes but was not 100 percent healthy. We'll know more about his status as camp rolls on. Hockenson has breakout potential in 2020 with a current ADP of TE14 (13.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Browns | Austin Hooper put in work with Baker Mayfield    Wed Aug 5, 04:20 PM

Cleveland Browns TE Austin Hooper lived part of the summer with QB Baker Mayfield while the two worked out together.

Footballguys view: Hooper was the big free agent tight end this year and the Browns were able to secure his services. The Browns spent a lot of resources this offseason to improve their offense and hopefully that leads to better numbers from Mayfield as he suffered through a sophomore slump in 2019.

Cardinals | Maxx Williams passes physical    Tue Aug 4, 06:23 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) passed his physical Tuesday, Aug. 4, and was taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Footballguys view: Williams is a big-bodied blocker for the Cardinals offense. There's no fantasy value with him, although we do appreciate his teammate (and the Cardinals starting tight end) Dan Arnold as a late-round sleeper TE2 in super deep leagues.

Seahawks | Will Dissly cleared for camp    Tue Aug 4, 02:39 PM

Seattle Seahawks TE Will Dissly (Achilles) passed his physical upon reporting the training camp Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: Dissly has talent but he's often injured. If healthy, Dissly can make plays for the offense all over the field. We'll see how he mixes in with veteran TE Greg Olsen who is going to be the starter and primary target at the position.

Seahawks | Will Dissly making good progress    Mon Aug 3, 04:50 PM

Seattle Seahawks TE Will Dissly (Achilles) is making good progress in his recovery but will be eased back into practice, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Dissly passed his physical at the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Dissly has certainly flashed talent in his pro career. However, he's just appeared in 10 games (scoring six touchdowns) in two seasons. Injuries have prevented Dissly from playing up to his full potential. The Seahawks have added veteran Greg Olsen this offseason to lead the way at the position. Dissly is a high-value reserve for the team but has limited fantasy value for 2020. He's a good dynasty prospect if healthy and starting...so long as this latest injury doesn't rob him of too much athleticism.

49ers I San Francisco lands Jordan Reed    Mon Aug 3, 02:47 PM

Free-agent TE Jordan Reed (Washington) reportedly agreed to an incentive-laden, one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, Aug. 3. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: Reed gives the 49ers plenty of veteran experience as a reserve at the tight end position. He'll work as a backup to George Kittle and likely won't see that much playing time or that many targets. Perhaps that would keep him healthy with his new team, something he struggled with as a starter for Washington.

Patriots | Pats interested in Delanie Walker    Mon Aug 3, 11:05 AM

Free-agent TE Delanie Walker (Titans) has received interest from the New England Patriots.

Footballguys view: We could see Walker latching on with a team like the Patriots. The veteran may not be the player he used to be, but he could provide veteran depth for a young tight end room like the Patriots have. They've got two rookies (Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene) who are competing in camp to establish a pecking order this season.

Jaguars | Four players placed on COVID list    Sun Aug 2, 04:15 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Ryquell Armstead, TE Charles Jones, WR Michael Walker and S Andrew Wingard were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday, Aug. 2.

Footballguys view: Armstead is the primary backup to Leonard Fournette. He's a handcuff for Fantasy GMs if you've got the roster space on the bench. His absence could help former Nebraska UDFA Devine Ozigbo impress in practice. Veteran Chris Thompson is also there as a change-of-pace back.

Falcons | Five removed from roster    Sun Aug 2, 01:04 PM

Browns | David Njoku no longer seeking trade    Sat Aug 1, 04:15 PM

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku is no longer seeking a trade and is ready to play for the Browns in 2020.

Footballguys view: Njoku has plenty of physical talent, but he was disgruntled with the Browns and wanted to move on. He met with team officials and now says that he's 'all in' via social networking. Njoku will serve as the team's no.2 tight end behind free agent addition Austin Hooper.

Ravens | Jacob Breeland likely to miss season    Fri Jul 31, 10:26 PM

Baltimore Ravens TE Jacob Breeland (knee) is expected to miss the 2020 season as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

Footballguys view: Breeland was picked up by the Ravens as a UDFA out of Oregon in 2020. A left knee injury in October last year ended his final season with the Ducks. That same injury is going to cause him to miss his first pro season. He's got build up speed but lacks separation on short-to-intermediate routes.

Broncos | Jeff Heuerman released    Fri Jul 31, 05:37 PM

Denver Broncos TE Jeff Heuerman was released Friday, July 31.

Footballguys view: The writing was on the wall for quite some time. Heuerman rarely stayed healthy for the Broncos and became mostly just a blocker when he was on the field. He's a veteran with some experience but we don't expect the market to be hot after his services. The Broncos move on with Noah Fant as the starter, Nick Vannett (Heuerman's college teammate) as the backup and primary blocker, plus rookie Albert Okwuegbunam as a potential red-zone threat.

Colts | Big year for Trey Burton?    Wed Jul 29, 10:37 PM

Indianapolis Colts TE Trey Burton is going to have 'a really productive year' in 2020, according to Stephen Holder of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Burton had hip surgery in December but is expected to be ready for Week 1. He's looking to rejuvenate his career after his time with the Bears didn't go as expected. Burton has athleticism and talent, so the Colts might try to use him in two-TE sets with Jack Doyle. Keep him on your waiver wire speed dial just in case Burton gets the 'Eric Ebron' treatment in 2020.

Giants | Evan Engram ready to go    Wed Jul 29, 09:51 PM

New York Giants TE Evan Engram (foot) has been cleared to participate in football activities.

Footballguys view: Engram has a ton of talent...he just needs to stay healthy. If he is able to play a full 16-game season, Engram has the talent to be a TE1 for Fantasy GMs. Engram has a current ADP of TE7 (7.04) in 12-team PPR leagues. If you draft him, make sure to have a good backup plan in case Engram gets banged up again.
