Steelers | Gabe Davis an option for Pittsburgh?    Mon Jun 30, 02:44 PM

Free-agent WR Gabe Davis (Jaguars) reportedly enjoyed his visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers this spring and is still an option to sign with the team at some point, although 'he could take his time' doing so, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Footballguys view: While not as big a name as Jonnu Smith or Jalen Ramsey, who were acquired in a trade with Miami earlier in the day, Davis, still just 26, has 2,969 career receiving yards, 183 receptions averaging 16.2 yards each, and 29 touchdowns. The Jaguars released Davis last month. He also visited with San Francisco and the New York Giants.

Steelers | Jonnu Smith lands one-year extension    Mon Jun 30, 02:33 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jonnu Smith reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension worth $12 million following his trade from the Miami Dolphins on June 30.

Footballguys view: It's no surprise to see the Steelers extend Smith. Last year, he set new career highs with 88 receptions and 884 yards while tying a career-high with eight touchdowns. Now, Smith is set to be another strong target for newly signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Steelers | Teams lining up for potential T.J. Watt trade?    Mon Jun 30, 01:51 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt skipped the team's most recent minicamp and remains unhappy with his current contractual situation. Although Pittsburgh has not shown any interest in trading him, ESPN's Adam Schefter - via multiple sources - believes that the June 30 trade that involved CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith and S Minkah Fitzpatrick could lead to more outside team interest for Watt.

Footballguys view: There has been no indication from the Steelers that they are looking to trade Watt, and Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that they remain focused on signing him to a contract extension. Profootballtalk.com notes that a report this month indicated they expect to finalize a deal before the start of the season. Watt signed his last extension days before the start of Week 1, and the Steelers have a long-standing policy of not negotiating during the season.

Steelers | Jonnu Smith likely to utilized at multiple positions    Mon Jun 30, 01:10 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jonnu Smith is expected to log snaps at tight end, slot receiver and as a fullback following his trade from the Miami Dolphins on Monday, June 30, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Steelers' interest in Smith is rooted in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's longstanding relationship with the tight end. Arthur Smith was Jonnu Smith's tight ends coach and offensive coordinator in Tennessee, and Arthur Smith later traded for his former player during his stint as the Falcons' head coach. Should we be excited by this? Footballguy Jason Wood notes that Jonnu Smith was TE22 in 2023 with the Falcons playing under Arthur Smith, and before last year, was only relevant once in his Patriots career (2020) because of a massive outlier 8 TD season on 65 targets.

Steelers | Jalen Ramsey trade update    Mon Jun 30, 01:01 PM

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round pick were traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for S Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick on S Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

Footballguys view: Ramsey, who has 24 interceptions in his career, joins a loaded cornerback group with the Steelers, who signed Darius Slay Jr. in free agency earlier this offseason and also have incumbent starter Joey Porter Jr. Ramsey was credited with 11 pass breakups last season but recorded only two interceptions -- his lowest total since 2020.

Steelers | Jonnu Smith coming to Steelers    Mon Jun 30, 10:44 AM

Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith and 2027 seventh-round pick were acquired by the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for S Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

Footballguys view: Smith, 29, led all Dolphins players in receptions (88) in his first year with the team and finished behind only Brock Bowers, Trey McBride, and George Kittle leaguewide in receiving yards by a tight end (with 884). Smith will be paired with current Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth. We'll watch for more here, but as Footballguy Jason Wood suggests, it's hard to envision a scenario where you're comfortable starting either this year unless one of them gets hurt, freeing up the other for a featured role.

Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey was acquired by the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, June 30, for an undisclosed package. As a part of the trade, Ramsey will get a $1.5 million raise this season, which brings his 2025 compensation up to $26.6 million.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers to craft gameplan with Arthur Smith    Thu Jun 26, 12:05 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers plans to spend time with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to find a 'middle ground' between Rodgers' 'pass-happy' approach and Smith's 'run-heavy' play-calling, according to The Athletic's Mike DeFabo.

Footballguys view: Rodgers finished second in the NFL in pass attempts last season while Smith called the fourth-most running plays. It will be a different look for Rodgers this season, and that will include fewer passing attempts. However, expect Rodgers to thrive on play-action passing if/when the Steelers are running the ball effectively.

Steelers | Calvin Austin, Robert Woods battling for starting role    Wed Jun 25, 12:16 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Calvin Austin is battling for a starting role in the offense but will face some competition from Robert Woods, in the opinion of Steelers Wire's Curt Popejoy.

Footballguys view: Woods is entering his age-33 season, but HC Mike Tomlin and OC Arthur Smith both like wide receivers who are willing to get dirty in the blocking game. Austin is younger and faster, but his size limitations could allow the veteran to get more snaps than many are expecting. Protecting an aging Aaron Rodgers will be a top priority, and Woods brings the edge there.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers likely done after 2025    Tue Jun 24, 01:05 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, June 24, that he is 'pretty sure (the 2025 season) is my last season.'

Footballguys view: It looks like the Aaron Rodgers retirement discourse is starting a year early. For dynasty managers rostering Rodgers, it already feels like he's on borrowed time. For redraft managers, we'll just have to reassess next year. Either way, Rodgers shouldn't be on the fantasy radar outside of superflex leagues.

Steelers | Opportunity for Roman Wilson     Fri Jun 20, 09:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Roman Wilson will have a chance to prove he deserves a role in the offense during training camp and the preseason, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Wilson got injured early in training camp last year and only logged five offensive snaps for the entire season. He was a third-rounder in 2024 after being a key piece of Michigan's championship-winning team. There's reason to believe a healthy offseason can get him back on track, but he'll fight an uphill battle. The upside in an Aaron Rodgers-led offense is obvious. His ADP of WR88 makes him worth the minimal investment, especially in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Quick passes for DK Metcalf?    Fri Jun 20, 02:03 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Metcalf could run more slant routes this year to help protect QB Aaron Rodgers, in the opinion of Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Metcalf has never been in an offense that's fed him easy targets. He's ranked well above the league average in target depth every year of his career. But game-breaking speed and after-the-catch tenacity could help him benefit from routes that get him the ball in stride across the middle of the field. Assuming Aaron Rodgers can keep the ship afloat, the lack of competition for Metcalf's touches makes a career year seem well within reach.

Steelers | Jonathan Ward let go    Thu Jun 19, 03:07 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jonathan Ward was released on Thursday, June 19.

Footballguys view: Ward has less than 100 yards rushing in his career over the last five seasons. He's mainly a special teams player, and that might land him on a roster during training camp and the preseason.

Steelers | George Pickens wasn't a fit with Aaron Rodgers    Tue Jun 17, 10:57 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR George Pickens was evaluated to be someone Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers wouldn't gel with, and that's one of the reasons he was traded to the Cowboys, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The good news is Pittsburgh's concerns about Pickens and Rodgers hitting it off played into the Cowboys' willingness to relinquish draft capital to land high-upside talent on rookie contracts. In Pickens' case, Dallas lands a player they believe has the talent to become a top-10 receiver. At the very least, the Cowboys have a player who can keep opposing defenses from focusing all their attention on stopping CeeDee Lamb. And if Pickens can make good on his potential, fantasy investors could get a bargain given his WR31 ADP heading into the summer.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers gets rave review    Tue Jun 17, 10:54 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers has drawn rave reviews from a couple of NFL scouts. 'Look, the mobility is an issue, there's no doubt,' an AFC executive said. 'But where he helps them is with the plus arm strength and the field vision from the pocket. They haven't had that. I'm not sure that will be enough, but the offense will be at least respectable.' 'He's still throwing the (crap) out of the ball, honestly,' a veteran NFL offensive coach said. 'He's the best quarterback they've had since (Ben Roethlisberger). We will see how the body holds up, but I think he's going to help them immensely.'

Footballguys view: As things stand, it's hard to argue against the notion that Pittsburgh went with their best option at quarterback: A 41-year-old Rodgers on a team-friendly contract that pays $13.65 million and pushes toward $20 million with incentives. Remember, despite playing for a lame-duck staff in New York and lacking chemistry with his best receiver, Garrett Wilson, Rodgers still threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns with the Jets last season. From a fantasy perspective, Rodgers' 16th-round price tag (as QB29) offers a lot of flexibility for those waiting as long as possible for their QB2.

Steelers | T.J. Watt holdout not contentious    Mon Jun 16, 12:29 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt was absent from mandatory minicamp due to contract concerns, but the holdout is not considered contentious, according to sources Sunday, June 15.

Footballguys view: USA Today's Andrew Vasquez added to this by suggesting that despite concerns over whether or not the Steelers are even close to the number Watt is looking for, there seems to be an overreaction stemming from his minicamp absence -- one that can be easily alleviated if the star pass rusher shows up at training camp next month.

Steelers | Jaylen Warren made changes to offseason routine    Sun Jun 15, 09:35 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren made adjustments to his offseason workout routine, in anticipation of shouldering a heavier workload at running back than he has in previous seasons, due to the departure of RB Najee Harris via free agency. 'I did a lot more things for longevity wise, instead of my old-school training like just getting the cleats on and running 30 hills,' Warren said. 'I had to adapt. This game is about longevity. And like they say, the best ability is availability.'

Footballguys view: The wind went out of the sails of Warren's ADP after the Steelers took Kaleb Johnson in the third round. The mystery box appeal of rookie running backs immediately vaulted Johnson rounds ahead of Warren in ADP, but perhaps that was too hasty. It sounds like Warren will be treated as the starter to open camp, and while rookies can impress with their fresh legs, they can also be unreliable and suffer injuries adjusting the NFL grind. Warren might be underrated in fantasy drafts.

Steelers | Calvin Austin in line for big role    Fri Jun 13, 04:57 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Calvin Austin is the team's No. 2 receiver at this point, according to wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni.

Footballguys view: The Steelers passing game is not a good place to look for hidden gems, although if there's going to be one, it's likely Austin. He has the speed to take short targets delivered on time and accurately from Aaron Rodgers to the house, and he can benefit on his deep routes from safety attention on DK Metcalf. He's worth a late round pick in best ball leagues.

Steelers | Darnell Washington catching eye of QB    Thu Jun 12, 09:45 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington was compared to Marcedes Lewis by QB Aaron Rodgers.

Steelers | T.J. Watt not at camp    Tue Jun 10, 10:08 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt is not attending the team's minicamp Tuesday, June 10.

Footballguys view: Watt is seeking a new contract as he enters the final year of an extension he signed in 2021, with a base salary of $21.05 million. Watt currently sits as the seventh-highest-paid edge rusher in average annual salary at $28.003 million. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, talks with Watt haven't progressed in Pittsburgh. But when it's struck, a new deal should come in well above that for one of the NFL's best pass rushers. Watt has finished with double-digit sacks in six of the past seven seasons -- with only the injury-shortened 2022 season as the outlier.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers Wasn't Pittsburgh's First Choice At QB    Mon Jun 9, 01:26 PM

When it became obvious that a divorce was looming between the Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers became an obvious potential destination for 2025. And while that's where he ultimately landed, he reportedly wasn't Pittsburgh's Plan A. ESPN's Adam Schefter recently said the Steelers had two prior choices before settling on Rodgers.

Footballguys view: First, they targeted Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford during the week or so that his status in L.A. was unresolved. Then, Pittsburgh tried to keep quarterback Justin Fields. After Fields opted to sign with the Jets (on a two-year, $40 million deal), the team turned their attention to Rodgers, who will make his debut Tuesday at the Steelers' mandatory minicamp. Still, the Steelers originally hoped it would be someone else: Stafford or Fields. And, as Profootballtalk.com notes, if they hadn't lowballed Fields, they would have had him instead of Rodgers.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers signing Saturday    Sat Jun 7, 09:53 AM

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) is officially signing his one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday, June 7.

Footballguys view: The one-year, $13.65 million deal includes $10 million in guaranteed money and $5.85 million in playing time and team performance incentives. That brings the potential total value to $19.5 million. Rodgers and the Steelers were flirting with each other the entire offseason. Now, the deal is done and Rodgers will be there for mandatory minicamp. In Arthur Smith's run-heavy, play-action system Rodgers should be able to be a solid starter for the Steelers as they push for the postseason.

Steelers | Pittsburgh kicking the tires on Kyle Pitts trade?    Fri Jun 6, 02:28 PM

Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts was reportedly the subject of a phone call between the Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers recently, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: It sounds like teams are interested in acquiring Pitts, but only on the cheap, which the Falcons reportedly are not willing to do. Pitts value is still at rock bottom in both redraft and dynasty, and a trade to the Steelers wouldn't be good for his fantasy prospects. We'll see if any other former Arthur Smith players are the subject of trade speculation for the Steelers this summer as they try to bolster the passing game for new quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers ready to roll with Pittsburgh    Thu Jun 5, 03:13 PM

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) reportedly informed the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, June 5, that he intends to sign the contract with the team and attend minicamp next week, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Finally! According to reports, the contract terms have been in place for months. Rodgers is expected to play for around $20 million this year (he's said as much publicly). While no longer the elite gunslinger he used to be, Rodgers should be able to operate the Arthur Smith offense precisely and efficiently.

Steelers | Donald Parham officially done for the year    Thu Jun 5, 03:07 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Donald Parham (Achilles) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Thursday, June 5.

Footballguys view: Bad news for the Steelers here. Parham is huge and has speed, but he's never played up to his potential. His season is done, and we'll see where Parham signs next year as he only had a one-year deal with the Steelers.

Steelers | Jaylen Warren open to bigger role    Wed Jun 4, 02:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren said he is ready to take on a large role in the offense but does not expected his role to significantly increase since RBs Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell are on the roster.

Footballguys view: Warren still projects as the lead running back, but sharing with Johnson and Gainwell is baked into Warren's RB27 Footballguys Projection. But even at that, Johnson's RB33 spot and lower average draft position makes him appealing. Both are reasonably priced depth options at the position.

Steelers | Donald Parham suffers torn Achilles    Wed Jun 4, 12:01 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Donald Parham Jr. (Achilles) suffered a torn Achilles during practice, according to sources Tuesday, June 3. He is expected to miss the entire 2025 season.

Footballguys view: After four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, Parham spent 2024 on the Broncos' practice squad and last played in 2023. With Parham set to miss the season, thhe Steelers have three other tight ends on the roster -- Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, and J.J. Galbreath. Parham's injury might explain the report that Pittsburgh and Miami have resumed discussing a possible trade that would send Jonnu Smith to the Steelers.

Steelers | PIT asked about Jonnu Smith    Tue Jun 3, 10:28 AM

Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith was the subject of conversations with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they're not expected to trade for him.

Footballguys view: Smith, who was not present for Miami's voluntary OTA practices last week, expressed interest in the team reworking the two-year deal he signed last offseason. But Drew Rosenhaus, Smith's agent, said Sunday night that his client's "first choice" is to remain with the Dolphins after he set a franchise record for receptions (88) and receiving yards (884) by a tight end last season. Smith led all Dolphins players in receptions and finished behind only Brock Bowers, Trey McBride, and George Kittle leaguewide in receiving yards by a tight end. Smith is going as TE7 in early best-ball drafts.

Steelers | Gabe Davis to visit Steelers    Tue Jun 3, 10:25 AM

Free-agent WR Gabe Davis (Jaguars) is expected to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday, June 5.

Footballguys view: Davis spent last season with the Jaguars, appearing in 10 games. He caught 20 passes for 239 yards with a pair of touchdowns before suffering a torn meniscus and missing the rest of the year. The Jags released Davis last month. This will be Davis' third reported visit with a team since he became a free agent earlier this offseason. Davis has also visited with San Francisco and the New York Giants.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers hasn't committed to PIT    Mon Jun 2, 10:37 AM

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) hasn't committed to the Pittsburgh Steelers, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero said on The Rich Eisen Show. 'I have been told that he has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming. Certainly, all indications -- if you just look at it logically -- are that he's coming, based on his comments about, 'Hey, there's a team that plays in Chicago I might play for; I'm not playing in New Orleans,'' Pelissero remarked. 'He took one visit [with the Steelers]. He's been throwing with DK Metcalf. He talks all the time with Mike Tomlin. I know he's talked with Arthur Smith. So, there are all these signs that he's coming, but he has not affirmatively said, 'Hey, June 9 -- book me a ticket, I'm coming in and I'm going to join this team.''

Footballguys view: Late last month, Steelers owner Art Rooney II said the team would wait "a little while longer." Pittsburgh's OTAs run through June 5. A three-day mandatory minicamp on June 10 follows that and ends the team's offseason sessions. So, Rooney and the Steelers can't wait much longer if they want to see Rodgers work with the team ahead of training camp. Rodgers being the team's quarterback this fall is still the most likely outcome. But the window for resolution is closing. Without Rodgers, the quarterbacks will be Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard.

Footballguys view: OTAs are voluntary, but rumors suggest Watt could replicate his infamous 2021 "hold-in" when he skipped team practices in a move that ultimately earned him a $112 million deal. As USA Today noted, several analysts and insiders have predicted that Watt is looking to surpass Myles Garrett's historical four-year, $160 million extension with the Cleveland Browns -- with an emphasis on beating out his $123.5 million in guaranteed money.   Steelers | Report: Kirk Cousins A Possible Fallback Option In Pittsburgh    Mon May 26, 02:19 PM

As the Pittsburgh Steelers wait for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, they are also keeping an eye on Kirk Cousins' situation with the Atlanta Falcons. Appearing on the Saturday morning edition of SportsCenter, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Cousins is "at least" on Pittsburgh's "radar" at the moment even though Rodgers remains the team's preferred choice.

Footballguys view: Assuming Rodgers isn't in the mix, Pittsburgh, with Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson on the depth chart, would fit Cousins' criteria of allowing him to start. Fowler acknowledges the Steelers would have to offset some of Cousins' guaranteed money, but the Falcons can save $27.5 million against their 2025 cap if he's traded after June 1. The Steelers haven't indicated a hard deadline for Rodgers to show up, but having him on hand when they report to training camp makes sense.

On Tuesday, the Steelers will conduct the first of only six 2025 OTA practices. Barring a sudden and unexpected turn, quarterback Aaron Rodgers won't be there.

Footballguys view: While it's not impossible, chances are Rodgers won't be signed by tomorrow. The question is whether he will show up for any upcoming OTAs over the next two weeks. The Steelers have nine offseason practices before training camp. Without Rodgers, the quarterbacks will be Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard.   Steelers | Jaylen Warren unlikely to return to Pittsburgh in 2026?    Fri May 23, 02:22 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren will likely not sign with the team once his rookie contract expires at the end of the 2025 season, in the opinion of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac.

Footballguys view: We'll see what Warren can do this season. He's going to be working in a RBBC with 2025 second-round pick Kaleb Johnson. While Johnson is a hammer as a runner (think Demarco Murray), Warren is an efficient player who can work as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. It's tough to get paid as a running back in this league, and Warren may not be as dynamic at the position as the team wants.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers' saga about to come to an end?    Fri May 23, 02:01 PM

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) could sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the next week or two, in the opinion of ESPN's Adam Schefter.'My guess is, he's going to wind up going (to the Steelers). We've heard Art Rooney, the team owner, say he expects Aaron Rodgers to sign there - and they have a mandatory minicamp from June 10 to 12. I would think that Rodgers is on the table here in the next week or so,' Schefter said during a recent appearance on ESPN Milwaukee's 'Jen, Gabe, and Chewy' podcast.

Footballguys view: Steelers owner Art Rooney II said the team will wait "a little while longer" for Rodgers. Patience may be wearing thin in Pittsburgh, but Rodgers is their best option of what's out there. They only have Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard as starting options this year...until Rodgers signs...if he signs.

Steelers | Pittsburgh remaining patient with Aaron Rodgers    Thu May 22, 01:56 PM

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) remains undecided about his playing future as of Thursday, May 22, but the Pittsburgh Steelers remain open to signing him, according to team president Art Rooney II, who repeated the team will wait 'a little while longer.'

Footballguys view: It seems like a matter of 'when' and not 'if' with the Steelers and Rodgers. The team is open to signing him, and the Steelers might be the best (and only?) remaining landing spot for the veteran. Rodgers throwing to DK Metcalf with the support of a strong rushing attack sounds like a recipe for success. We'll continue to wait for something most everyone thinks is going to happen.
