Buccaneers | Mike Evans in elite class Fri Apr 16, 01:18 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans joins Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce as the only two players with at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last five seasons.
|Footballguys view: Evans came into the league as a first-round pick in 2014 and has had 1,000 yards receiving each year he's been a pro. He's one of the most consistent performers out there in the NFL and should do it again in 2021.|

NFL | Rashod Bateman can play all over Thu Apr 15, 10:56 PM
Minnesota WR Rashod Bateman is 'the best route runner not named DeVonta Smith' in the 2021 NFL Draft, according to ESPN's Todd McShay, and McShay believes Bateman 'could be a very talented starter either outside or in the slot.'
|Footballguys view: Bateman reminds some in the scouting community of Keenan Allen (Chargers) because of his size and route-running ability. He played 193 slot snaps in 2020 while playing 117 snaps out wide. Any team that adds Bateman in the first round is going to be wise to move him all around the formation.|
NFL | Shi Smith undersized? Thu Apr 15, 10:40 PM
South Carolina WR Shi Smith 'struggles a little when he's pushed around by physical corners,' according to ESPN's Todd McShay, and McShay believes Smith is 'probably a Day 3 pick' in the 2021 NFL Draft.
|Footballguys view: Smith has always been a Day 3 pick with upside. Even after his strong performance during the week of practice for the Senior Bowl, there are still questions about what kind of role he can handle at the pro level. We appreciate his skill set and ability to make circus catches, and we'll be monitoring him in all dynasty formats.|
NFL | Dyami Brown moving up draft boards Thu Apr 15, 10:35 PM
North Carolina WR Dyami Brown had more than 1,000 yards receiving and averaged at least 20 yards per catch in each of the last two seasons, and ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. believes Brown could be selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. 'Brown is a big-time deep threat with great hands,' Kiper said.
|Footballguys view: Brown is a second-round graded player who could find his way into Day 1 of the draft. He's a pure vertical threat who can get off the line of scrimmage with ease. Brown needs more nuance on his underneath routes and that should come in the NFL.|
Saints | New Orleans adds Jalen McCleskey Thu Apr 15, 05:15 PM
Free-agent WR Jalen McCleskey (Falcons) agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints Thursday, April 15. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: McCleskey was undrafted out of Tulane last year (Oklahoma State transfer) but the Falcons picked him up and kept him around through training camp. He's a speedy slot receiver and some consider him a diamond in the rough. Fantasy GMs in crazy deep dynasty formats can keep an eye on him.|
Cardinals | Arizona signs four players Thu Apr 15, 04:52 PM
Free-agent WR Andre Baccellia (Patriots), DE Ryan Bee (Washington), RB Tavien Feaster (Lions) and LB Jamell Garcia-Williams (49ers) signed with the Arizona Cardinals Thursday, April 15. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
|Footballguys view: Feaster is a big-bodied back who bounced around to three different teams in 2020 after going undrafted out of South Carolina (Clemson transfer). He'll try to work into the mix behind Chase Edmonds and newly-signed James Conner and is a long-shot to make the final roster. If he impresses in the desert, then perhaps a spot on the practice squad will be where he lands.|
Cardinals | Arizona adds Darece Roberson Thu Apr 15, 01:58 PM
Free agent WR Darece Roberson on Thursday, April 15, signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Roberson went undrafted and unsigned in 2020 out of Wayne State.
|Footballguys view: Roberson is a smaller but speedy receiver. He scored 24 receiving touchdowns during his time at Wayne State and added a couple of return touchdowns. Roberson will compete for a spot on the Cardinals depth chart and brings special teams value.|
Broncos | Dionatae Spencer signs tender Thu Apr 15, 12:19 PM
Free agent WR/KR Diontae Spencer has signed his exclusive-rights tender to remain with the Denver Broncos, his agent announced Thursday, April 15.
|Footballguys view: ERFAs don't have much choice as they can either sign the tender or choose not to play football. Spencer is a return man for the Broncos, and once in awhile he can be used on Jet sweeps and WR screens. With Courtland Sutton returning healthy this year, Spencer is no.5 on the depth chart at best.|
NFL | No injury issues for DeVonta Smith Wed Apr 14, 03:12 PM
Alabama WR DeVonta Smith (finger) is 'healing fine' from the finger dislocation he suffered in the BCS title game, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.Link to story
NFL | Jaylen Waddle recovering nicely Wed Apr 14, 03:06 PM
Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle (ankle) is 'healing properly' from the ankle dislocation that cost him roughly half of his final college season, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.Link to story
NFL | Jaylen Waddle good to go Wed Apr 14, 11:18 AM
Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle (ankle) is healing properly from a dislocated ankle, and he'll still be a top pick in the 2021 NFL draft.
|Footballguys view: Waddle is one of the best receivers in this class and should be a top-10 pick. With the quarterback fever in the first three (four?) picks, perhaps he falls just a bit but not that far.|
NFL | DeVonta Smith healing up Wed Apr 14, 09:54 AM
Alabama WR DeVonta Smith (finger) is healing well from the dislocated finger and torn ligaments with no issues ahead.
|Footballguys view: Smith's game is all about speed, speed and more speed. He's a vertical threat to say the least, and he does a good job of tracking passes over his shoulder. He's a speedy receiver who also has an insane nose for the end zone (46 career touchdown receptions). Think of DeSean Jackson (the younger version) when you think of what Smith could be at the pro level. He'll be amongst the first wide receivers off the board in the draft.|
Seahawks | Tyler Lockett moving around in new scheme Tue Apr 13, 07:04 PM

NFL | Jaylen Waddle dynamic after catch Tue Apr 13, 02:42 PM
Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle averaged 9.8 yards after the catch over his college career - the highest mark among all Power Five conference receivers with at least 100 receptions since 2014 - according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: Waddle is arguably the best receiver in this draft class. He should be a top-10 pick but the quarterback run expected in the first three (or four) picks could push him down just a bit. Some team is going to get an instant playmaker when adding Waddle in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.|
NFL | Julian Edelman announces retirement Mon Apr 12, 05:44 PM
Free-agent WR Julian Edelman (Patriots) announced his retirement from professional football Monday, April 12.
|Footballguys view: A converted quarterback from Kent State, Edelman was a seventh-round pick for the Patriots in the 2009 NFL draft. He played 11 seasons and finished his career with 620 catches for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns. He had health issues over the last two seasons and a failed physical designation led to the Patriots releasing him. There wouldn't be much of a market for his services, so Edelman decided to hang up his cleats.|

Titans | A.J. Brown difficult to bring down Sun Apr 11, 11:42 PM
Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown has forced a league-high 33 missed tackles on receptions since entering the league in 2019 - the most in the NFL over that span - according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: That's one of the best part of Brown's game. He is tough to bring down with the rock in his hands, and that's going to continue in 2021. Brown was banged up last year, but Fantasy GMs are expecting him to bounce back this season with better production. That's why Brown has a current ADP of WR9 (3.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.|

NFL | Marquez Stevenson mostly impressive at pro day Sun Apr 11, 10:46 PM
University of Houston WR Marquez Stevenson checked in at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds at his pro day Friday, April 9. He clocked times of 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 4.17 seconds in the short shuttle and 6.46 seconds in the three-cone. He also recorded a 33-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-2 broad jump.
|Footballguys view: Stevenson's game has always had a ton of speed, so his 40 time should not surprise anyone. He's a smaller receiver but does a good job of making defenders miss after the catch. Stevenson is projected to be a late-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft.|
NFL | DeVonta Smith a TD machine Sun Apr 11, 07:03 PM
Alabama WR DeVonta Smith scored a touchdown every 19 times the Crimson Tide attempted a pass in 2020, and since 1996, retired WR Randy Moss and free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Ravens) are the only drafted receivers to score at a higher rate in a collegiate season.
|Footballguys view: With 37 touchdowns over the last two seasons, it's clear that Smith has an elite-level nose for the end zone. He can dominate out wide but also from the slot, and Smith stands out because he can make circus catches seem routine.|
NFL | Tutu Atwell made most of touches Sun Apr 11, 06:37 PM
Louisville WR Tutu Atwell finished with 70 receptions for 1,276 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2020 for a Louisville offense that attempted a total of 302 passes, which tied for 91st in the country.
|Footballguys view: Atwell reminds some in the scouting community of Tavon Austin because of his size/speed/athleticism combination. He was a weapon all over the field but can be featured as a deep threat as Atwell had 25 catches 20-plus yards downfield over the last three seasons (9th most in FBS). Atwell didn't get physical coverage and will have to react to that in order to make the most of his pro potential. We should see him come off the board as a mid-round pick.|
Titans | Josh Reynolds not limited to perimeter Sun Apr 11, 01:31 PM
Tennessee Titans WR Josh Reynolds is a player head coach Mike Vrabel believes can play outside or in the slot, according to Jim Wyatt of the team's website.
|Footballguys view: Reynolds is the player the Titans pegged to replace Corey Davis who left in free agency. Last year, Davis had 92 targets but that was with A.J. Brown banged up. Reynolds is unlikely to see that workload in the Titans run-heavy offense...unless Brown gets banged up again. Reynolds is currently going undrafted in 12-team PPR leagues.|

Browns | Rashard Higgins' targets productive Sat Apr 10, 01:56 PM
Cleveland Browns WR Rashard Higgins averaged 11.5 receiving yards per target in 2020 -- a figure which trailed only Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (11.7) among qualifiers last season.
|Footballguys view: Higgins worked well for the Browns last year, so that's why they brought him back on a one-year deal. So long as Odell Beckham Jr doesn't get traded, Higgins returns as the no.3 receiver for the Browns. Unless someone above him on the depth chart is injured, that doesn't leave much for Higgins in terms of production. He'll be ready if called upon.|

Ravens | Marquise Brown steps up in playoffs Fri Apr 9, 09:38 PM
Baltimore Ravens WR Marquise Brown has averaged 17.9 yards per reception across three career postseason games, catching 18 passes for 322 yards.
|Footballguys view: Brown really thrived in the postseason. He only had one 100-yard game in 2020, but if he continues on the track he had in the playoffs then he could be in for career-best numbers this season. Fantasy GMs should consider Brown a WR3 with upside for 2021.|

NFL | Frank Darby has talked with several teams Fri Apr 9, 05:50 PM
Arizona State WR Frank Darby has met virtually with the Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans.
|Footballguys view: Darby is a late-round receiver with upside. He was perhaps the best wide receiver at the Senior Bowl earlier this year and can fit in any system. Darby is a bit under the radar as a prospect but scouts in the know are excited about his potential in the NFL. Keep an eye on this name.|

Falcons | Five players on ATL draft radar Fri Apr 9, 01:12 PM
Oregon OT Penei Sewell, Florida TE Kyle Pitts, Ohio State QB Justin Fields, LSU WR Ja'Marr Chase and Alabama CB Patrick Surtain II are on the Atlanta Falcons' draft radar screen if they retain the No. 4 overall pick, according to a report Friday, April 9.
|Footballguys view: All of these players would be interesting for Atlanta...and some of them might be there if the Falcons decide to trade back. Fields could be a perfect quarterback to groom behind Matt Ryan for a year and then take over the franchise. Pitts is a playmaking tight end (think Darren Waller) who could make an instant impact on any offense.|

Patriots | Doubt surrounds Julian Edelman Thu Apr 8, 01:00 PM
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) had surgery last fall to alleviate knee swelling and is planning on playing in 2021, but a source said Thursday, April 8, that Edelman's knee issue is chronic, and is believes it's 'doubtful' that Edelman will be able to play an entire season.
|Footballguys view: Let's watch this situation as the regular season draws near. Edelman is going to have to be managed in terms of what he does in the offseason and in practice during the week. Fantasy GMs can find better flex plays than an aging Edelman.|

Chiefs | Demarcus Robinson aiming high Thu Apr 8, 12:38 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson has his sights set on a big 2021 season with WR Sammy Watkins departure via free agency. 'Seeing what they saw in me for my role next year, and without Sammy being there, they said it'll pick up a lot more,' Robinson said during a Thursday, April 8, interview on NFL Network. 'And they got a lot of things in store for me. I'm ready to go back to work and see what they got going for me.'Every other season, it's (been) four, five touchdowns, 500 yards. ... I just think it picks up a little bit more right now. I'm looking for the opportunity -- not for them to give me the opportunity, but go in there and take the opportunity. Go in there and show that I am a guy who can put up 1,000 yards a year and 10 touchdowns. I'm ready to make that happen. They said they've got something in store for me. I'm ready to show them.'
|Footballguys view: Robinson isn't as buried on the depth chart with Watkins leaving in free agency. He's got a ton of speed and can make a few opportunities turn into big plays. Fantasy GMs in dynasty formats should be rolling the dice on him in case he gets a larger opportunity and plays up to his potential.|

Bears | Anthony Miller trade market heating up? Wed Apr 7, 02:01 PM
Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller has been the subject of trade discussions with a 'number of teams' this offseason, according to sources via NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.
|Footballguys view: Reports indicated Miller was the subject of trade talks about a month ago. Miller is a slot receiver with one year remaining on his rookie deal. He hasn't quite lived up to his potential yet in the pros, and he's only caught four touchdowns over the last two seasons after gathering in seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2018. A change of scenery could do him some good.|

NFL | Antonio Brown remains in limbo Tue Apr 6, 04:54 PM
Free-agent WR Antonio Brown appears to be no closer to re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers than he was when free agency began about a month ago, according to Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times.
|Footballguys view: The Buccaneers have kept everyone from their Super Bowl winning team...except Brown. There are some who think Larry Fitzgerald might join Tampa in their quest for back-to-back championships...if he doesn't retire. That move would mean Brown would have to look elsewhere for employment in 2021. Stay tuned.|

Patriots | Bill Belichick's draft choices questioned Tue Apr 6, 10:02 AM
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick ignored his scouts' input before taking WR N'Keal Harry in 2019, according to sources. His scouts preferred WRs A.J. Brown and Deebo Samuel, but Belichick based his opinion on his own experience with Harry and the opinion of his college coach, Todd Graham, who is close to Belichick. Belichick has become more open to his scouts' input since then.
|Footballguys view: Harry obviously was overdrafted and has never played up to his first-round draft status. Belichick has the championships and historical knowledge of the game, so his draft busts are not as recognizable as other executives out there. Without QB Tom Brady, Belichick has a lot to prove.|
N'Keal Harry player page
Titans | Josh Reynolds could move around Mon Apr 5, 01:26 PM
Tennessee Titans WR Josh Reynolds has the ability to play either outside receiver or slot receiver, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.
|Footballguys view: The Titans lost Corey Davis to the Jets in free agency, and they've filled that void with the addition of Reynolds. It's wise for the team to move Reynolds around where he can use his size/speed combination to his advantage. In the run-heavy Titans system, Reynolds may not see as many targets as Davis did last year (92)...and that was also due to the fact that A.J. Brown missed time.|

Titans | A.J. Brown no stranger to long TD catches Sun Apr 4, 11:16 PM
Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown rank second in the league with eight touchdown catches from at least 30 yards out since the start of the 2019 season, according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: Brown has thrived in the NFL and certainly has established strong chemistry with his quarterback Ryan Tannehill. So long as Derrick Henry continues to pound the rock, the Titans offense will feature plenty of play-action passing which leads to these type of big plays for scores.|

Chiefs | Big scoring plays common for KC receivers Sun Apr 4, 11:05 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill leads the league with 10 touchdown catches from at least 30 yards out since the start of the 2019 season, according to Pro Football Focus. Teammate Mecole Hardman ranks third in the league with seven such receptions over that span.
|Footballguys view: This is what happens when you have speed like Hill and Hardman, plus a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes who can buy time with his legs. The Chiefs also do a great job of scheming their vertical routes open to help create these big play opportunities.|

Seahawks | DK Metcalf a master of the big play Sun Apr 4, 10:53 PM
Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf leads the league with 19 receptions of at least 30 yards since the start of the 2019 season, according to Pro Football Focus.
|Footballguys view: That's what Metcalf did in college at Ole Miss, and that's what his game primarily is in the NFL. Metcalf is a better route runner than some give him credit for, but he's certainly great on a 'go' route where he can turn on the speed and track the ball down the field. Expect more of the same in 2021 and beyond.|

NFL | Rashod Bateman impresses scouts Sun Apr 4, 07:32 PM
Minnesota WR Rashod Bateman 'looked really good in positional drills' during his pro day, a scout told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
|Footballguys view: Bateman is an impressive prospect and likely a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft. He's got a basketball background and it shows in his game because he can high-point the ball and win contested catches regularly. Bateman can play outside and inside at the slot, so innovative offensive coaches can find many ways to use him to attack defenses.|
Eagles | Philly in contact with Terrace Marshall Sun Apr 4, 04:01 PM
Louisiana State WR Terrace Marshall has talked with the Philadelphia Eagles during the pre-draft process.
|Footballguys view: The Eagles are still looking for wide receiver help. They've passed on D.K. Metcalf and Justin Jefferson over the last couple of drafts and the guys they picked (J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Jalen Reagor) have not yet played up to their potential. Reagor has incredible ability if he stays healthy. Marshall is big and fast and has a nose for the end zone. He should be a late first-round pick.|
NFL | Terrace Marshall runs fast Sun Apr 4, 01:31 PM
Louisiana State WR Terrace Marshall posted an unofficial time of 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day Wednesday, March 31. He also recorded a 38-inch vertical leap.
|Footballguys view: No surprise here...with either number. Marshall is the rare big receiver with speed. Add in his nose for the end zone (23 touchdowns over the last two years) and you can see why he's projected as a late first-round pick. He needs to fill out his frame because he's seen as a little light for his height (6-feet, 3-inches, 200 pounds).|
Titans | New faces for Ryan Tannehill Fri Apr 2, 09:51 PM
Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill will no longer have New York Jets WR Corey Davis, New England Patriots TE Jonnu Smith or Washington Football Team Adam Humphries in 2021, and those three players combined for 43 percent of his passing yards and 45 percent of his touchdowns last year.
|Footballguys view: We'll see how quickly Tannehill can build chemistry with new addition WR Josh Reynolds. Don't be surprised if the Titans select a wide receiver or a tight end in the 2021 NFL draft to help at the positions. We're certain Tannehill will be able to get these new guys the ball as planned.|

Eagles | Kadarius Toney talks with Philly Fri Apr 2, 07:41 PM
Florida WR Kadarius Toney said he recently met with the Philadelphia Eagles.
|Footballguys view: Toney is a player some see as a first-round talent in the 2021 NFL draft. He was one of the best playmakers in college football last season and can hurt a defense as a receiver or runner. We see him as more of a quality no.2 receiver at the pro level.|
Dolphins | DeVante Parker a possible trade option? Fri Apr 2, 05:02 PM
Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker could be a possible trade option this offseason if the team receives the right offer and if they select a receiver with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, in the opinion of NBC Sports' Peter King.
|Footballguys view: It's interesting to think of who could be on the trade block, but the Dolphins should be about adding talent to the WR position not subtracting it. They are likely to select a wide receiver in the top-10 of the 2021 NFL draft.|

Ravens | Sammy Watkins passes physical Fri Apr 2, 01:00 PM
Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens WR Sammy Watkins has passed his physical, the team announced Friday, April 2, and has signed a one-year, $5 million contract.
|Footballguys view: Watkins has talent when healthy but staying on the field has been a problem for him. The Ravens need help at the wide receiver position...they have for some time now...and Watkins is the latest in a line of trying to make that happen. In their run-heavy offense he could perform like a flex play for Fantasy GMs.|

NFL | Larry Fitzgerald retiring? Fri Apr 2, 12:43 PM
Free agent WR Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals) is likely to retire this offseason amid growing speculation and reports centering around the still-unsigned veteran, according to a report Friday, April 2.
|Footballguys view: The buzz about Fitzgerald retiring has been out there for some time. He's yet unsigned but there is a rumor swirling that he may want to reunite with Bruce Arians and sign with the Buccaneers. With Antonio Brown also unsigned, it has led to this speculation. We'll be sad the day Fitzgerald decides to hang em up, even though we know that day is rapidly approaching.|
