Steelers | Gabe Davis an option for Pittsburgh?    Mon Jun 30, 02:44 PM

Free-agent WR Gabe Davis (Jaguars) reportedly enjoyed his visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers this spring and is still an option to sign with the team at some point, although 'he could take his time' doing so, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Footballguys view: While not as big a name as Jonnu Smith or Jalen Ramsey, who were acquired in a trade with Miami earlier in the day, Davis, still just 26, has 2,969 career receiving yards, 183 receptions averaging 16.2 yards each, and 29 touchdowns. The Jaguars released Davis last month. He also visited with San Francisco and the New York Giants.

Eagles | Tyler Boyd a fit in Philly?    Sun Jun 29, 02:36 PM

Free-agent WR Tyler Boyd (Titans) could be signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an insurance policy for WR Jahan Dotson, according to Aaron Schatz of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Boyd was a useful slot receiver for the Bengals, enough to get a $43 million second contract with the team. After Cincinnati didn't pursue re-signing him when that contract ended, Boyd signed with the Titans, but fizzled along with the rest of the offense. It doesn't appear that there is a lot of interest in the 30-year-old around the league, but he could compete with Dotson to be the #3 for the Eagles, who have struggled to build depth at wide receiver behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Boyd has also said he would be interested in playing for his hometown Steelers, who also have an unimpressive group behind their starting wideouts.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans outstanding in December    Sun Jun 29, 02:19 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans caught 34 passes for 512 yards and five touchdowns in December last season.

Footballguys view: Evans season was interrupted by a hamstring injury that cost him three games. This finish to 2024 should reassure you if you are considering Evans at or near his ADP of WR20 and 39 overall even though he'll turn 32 right before the season starts. Evans was WR10 last year in PPR leagues on a points per game basis, although he was WR21 when he and Chris Godwin went down in Week 7.

Jaguars | Top wide receivers working out together    Sun Jun 29, 12:17 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr., WR/CB Travis Hunter and WR Dyami Brown are working out together leading up to training camp.

Footballguys view: Thomas and Hunter could be the next dynamic duo who both finish in the top 20 at wide receiver despite playing for the same team. New Jaguars head coach Liam Coen accomplished that with Chris Godwin and Mike Evans last year in Tampa. Hunter is a rookie and didn't focus on wide receiver at Colorado. There's some skepticism about his early contributions, as he's falling to WR29 and 60 overall in the most recent Footballguys ADP, but Thomas is at WR8 and 14 overall. If you want him, you'll need to take him in the late first.

Giants | Wan'Dale Robinson likely to move around    Sun Jun 29, 11:36 AM

New York Giants WR Wan'Dale Robinson said that he expects to move around more frequently in 2025, after he played in the slot position for 77.7 percent of his snaps during the 2024 season.

Footballguys view: Robinson finished as WR44 in PPR leagues on a points per game basis last year, but he's going off of the board as WR68 this year. It doesn't seem like fantasy players believe he will reproduce his 93-catch 2024 season, perhaps in part because he was limited to very short passes that only resulted in 699 receiving yards. Robinson could surprise if the Giants turn to pass-happy backup Jameis Winston, or if first round pick Jaxson Dart takes over during the season and relies on Robinson frequently as a high percentage target.

Steelers | Tyler Boyd interested in Pittsburgh    Sun Jun 29, 10:20 AM

Giants | Jalin Hyatt looking forward to 2025    Sun Jun 29, 09:41 AM

New York Giants WR Jalin Hyatt said that his playing weight was 170-171 pounds last year but estimated that he has added 25 pounds during the offseason, which should increase his strength but is not expected to compromise his speed. Hyatt is also hopeful of moving around more in the offensive scheme, after lining up out wide on 86 percent of his snaps and all of his targets in 2024.

Footballguys view: Hyatt has reportedly had good chemistry with presumptive Week 1 starting quarterback Russell Wilson. His ability to get downfield behind his man and go up to win the ball was what set him apart at Tennessee, and it meshes well with Wilson's "moonball" deep shots. Hyatt is still behind Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Wan'Dale Robinson for targets, but he could show physical and skill development this year to put himself back on the dynasty fantasy football radar after a quiet first two years following his selection in the third round of the 2023 draft.

Commanders | Terry McLaurin still waiting for deal    Sat Jun 28, 02:27 PM

Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin missed some of the offseason practices because of his contract situation, and the two sides are still believed to have a lot of work to do before they can reach an agreement on an extension, according to SI.com's Albert Breer.

Footballguys view: The two sides can get closer to a deal when training camp begins. Deals get done at deadlines as they say, and McLaurin has made his intentions known by leaving OTAs and missing minicamp. National reporters suggest McLaurin is likely seeking a contract extension averaging at least $30 million per year.

Jets | Allen Lazard mentioned in trade rumors    Sat Jun 28, 11:14 AM

New York Jets WR Allen Lazard's name has continued to be mentioned in trade rumors but the team is unlikely to deal him before the end of the preseason, as long as they are comfortable with their depth at wide receiver, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.

Footballguys view: Of course, Lazard's name is in trade rumors because Aaron Rodgers is with the Steelers. Could we see something happen before the start of the regular season? Well, anything is possible and everyone knows if Rodgers can get more of 'his guys' around him - he will. Let's see what the Jets think of their WRs behind Lazard on the depth chart, and that means this might string along through the preseason as evaluations continue.

49ers | Ricky Pearsall builds chemistry with QB    Sat Jun 28, 10:33 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall worked out with QB Brock Purdy multiple times this offseason, both in their native Arizona and also in Jacksonville, where Purdy works on his throwing fundamentals each year.

Footballguys view: Pearsall missed minicamp due to a hamstring injury, but he's working out with his quarterback. He needs to stay healthy, because his rookie season was held back due to injury problems. He compiled 31 catches, 400 yards, and three touchdowns in 11 games last year. This season, Pearsall looks like a WR5/deep flex option for Fantasy GMs.

Cardinals | Marvin Harrison Jr. finding comfort zone    Sat Jun 28, 09:31 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. is 'definitely more comfortable' this season, according to QB Kyler Murray. 'I can see it out there on the field, and I think that'll only allow him to play faster, be the guy that we all know he can be,' Murray said.

Footballguys view: That's great news for Harrison, Cardinals fans, Murray himself, and - oh yeah - Fantasy GMs out there. Harrison has dynamic talent, and he could end up becoming one of the best wide receivers in the entire league. Currently, Harrison's ADP is WR18 (consensus) but he ability and opportunity will be there for him to outperform that position. If/when he hits, Harrison has WR1 set-it-and-forget-it potential every week....it's just a matter of when it all clicks for him.

Bears | Luther Burden to have a role?    Sat Jun 28, 09:31 AM

Chicago Bears WR Luther Burden III could make an 'instant impact' for the offense, according to Scott Bair of Marquee Sports Network.

Footballguys view: Anything is possible, and Burden is a talented player with the ball in his hands. He's a run-after-the-catch specialist who is tough to bring down in the open field. It will be interesting to see how the Bears use him in the new-look offense. Burden was sidelined through mandatory minicamp, but he'll be good to go for training camp and the preseason. Whether it's outside or from the slot, Burden gives HC Ben Johnson a versatile chess piece to attack defenses with. Burden is a depth piece right now with flex appeal in his rookie season.

Cardinals | Marvin Harrison productive on first down    Sat Jun 28, 09:31 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. caught six of his eight touchdown on first down plays last season.

Footballguys view: Harrison should be a force on first downs - and every down - once again this year. He's put on muscle this offseason to help at the catch point and with his run-after-the-catch ability. Harrison is getting praise from Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon for his offseason dedication, and that would should pay dividends in 2025.

Bills | Keon Coleman not a big factor in second half    Sat Jun 28, 09:31 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Keon Coleman caught only eight passes for 160 yards and one touchdown during the second half of the 2024 season.

Footballguys view: Coleman's rookie season was cut short by injury. Reports indicate the big-bodied receiver chipped a bone in his wrist in Week 9, and Coleman missed Week 10-14 because of the injury. He certainly flashed as a rookie early on, but Coleman must stay healthy and continue to develop in year two. We like him as a WR5 with deep flex appeal in 2025.

49ers | George Kittle impressed by Isaiah Neyor     Fri Jun 27, 03:53 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Isaiah Neyor - an undrafted free agent this spring - has caught the eye of teammate George Kittle with his freakish athleticism, according to comments he made recently on the 'Bussin' With The Boys' podcast.'I like him. He's a freak. ... I watched him, he was running a route and he got like 9 1/2 yards in two strides. ... It was insane. We watched it like 10 times in the tight end room. We were like 'How is he doing this?'' Kittle said.

Footballguys view: Neyor went undrafted, but he has the size/speed/athleticism of a starting NFL wide receiver. He's only of interest right now in deep dynasty leagues, but if he makes the 53 man roster out of training camp, it will be time to put Neyor on our radar in all dynasty leagues.

Seahawks | Marquez Valdes-Scantling in line for No. 3 job    Fri Jun 27, 11:01 AM

Seattle Seahawks WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling appears to be the leading candidate for the No. 3 wide receiver job entering training camp but may be push for the job by WRs Jake Bobo and Tory Horton during camp, in the opinion of Seahawks.com's John Boyle.

Footballguys view: Valdes-Scantling had a brief revival in New Orleans last year as the primary deep threat after Rashid Shaheed went down. He got $3 million guaranteed on a one-year deal from the Seahawks, so they clearly see a role for him, but he'll have to hold off the third-year UDFA Bobo and this year's fifth round pick Horton. Valdes-Scantling is only of interest in very deep best ball and dynasty leagues, but he could help the offense function better if he forces opposing defenses to account for his long speed.

Ravens | John Harbaugh praises Devontez Walker's upside    Thu Jun 26, 01:47 PM

Baltimore Ravens WR Devontez Walker has a 'chance to be really good,' according to head coach John Harbaugh.'Every day, all he does is show up and go 100 miles an hour. He's got a chance to be really good,' Harbaugh told the team's website.

Footballguys view: We appreciate Walker in dynasty formats..and for good reason. A fourth-round pick out of North Carolina in the 2024 NFL Draft, Walker didn't do much as a rookie for the Ravens. He had only one catch, but it was for a 21-yard touchdown against the Giants. This offseason, reports indicate Walker has been working on learning the playbook to play with more confidence. The ball skills and body control are there for Walker to be a reliable target. We'll see him compete for a roster spot behind Rashod Bateman, DeAndre Hopkins, and Zay Flowers.

Packers | Matthew Golden winning over QB    Thu Jun 26, 09:45 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Matthew Golden was immediately impressive during minicamp, according to QB Jordan Love. 'I think from the get-go, from day one when he got here, he's showcased kind of just the versatility he has running routes, the speed he has and his ability to catch,' Love said

Footballguys view: Golden has a ton of speed, and he can be a blur on the field. That's one of the many reasons why the Packers broke a 23-year streak of not taking a wide receiver in the first round and picked Golden with the no.23 overall pick. Earning Love's trust early is great for his career start. We like the rookie speedster as a deep flex or 'what the heck' flex for Fantasy GMs in 2025.

Jaguars | Solid offseason for Dyami Brown    Thu Jun 26, 09:45 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Dyami Brown was one of the standout performers during offseason workouts, in the opinion of The Florida Times-Union's Juston Lewis.

Footballguys view: Let's see what Brown can do in training camp and the preseason. The veteran receiver is a speedy player who can take the top off the defense. With Brian Thomas and no.2 overall pick Travis Hunter, Brown could work as the no.3 receiver for the Jaguars. In a pass-happy offense under HC Liam Coen, Brown could have end-of-the-bench fantasy value.

Patriots | Two WRs worked with starters    Thu Jun 26, 09:45 AM

New England Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne and WR Kayshon Boutte received work with the first-team offense during offseason practices.

Footballguys view: The Patriots have an interesting group of receivers...for many reasons. Stefon Diggs and Demario Douglas are the top two receivers, and guys like Bourne and Boutte will be working behind them. Both Bourne and Boutte are intriguing dynasty prospects we like in those formats, especially with the expected growth from QB Drake Maye.

Seahawks | Cooper Kupp impresses in OTAs    Thu Jun 26, 12:43 AM

Seattle Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp 'looked the part' of 'a legitimate complementary piece' to WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba during minicamp and OTAs, in the opinion of Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic, who writes that Kupp 'still has enough wiggle, understanding of leverage and quickness' to make things difficult for defenses both in underneath routes and the red zone.

Footballguys view: Kupp can be an immediate favorite target for QB Sam Darnold, and that has a certain amount of fantasy value. He could easily be a weekly flex play or at least deep flex play for Fantasy GMs on a weekly basis.

Cardinals | Zay Jones on track to be No. 3 WR    Wed Jun 25, 03:45 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Zay Jones likely will serve as the No. 3 receiver for the Cardinals this upcoming season, in the opinion of CardsWire's Jess Root.

Footballguys view: With Trey McBride also being a top-two passing option, that means Jones will likely be, at best, fourth on the team in targets. Jones has gotten his career back on track after a bumpy start. But barring a huge breakout from Kyler Murray, it's tough to envision the veteran finding himself in a fantasy-relevant role.

Patriots | Efton Chism earned praise with spring work    Wed Jun 25, 01:25 AM

New England Patriots WR Efton Chism III received praise from both QB Drake Maye and head coach Mike Vrabel for his play during spring practices, and The Athletic's Chad Graff believes that Chism will 'enter camp with a decent shot at making the team.'

Footballguys view: Jakobi Meyers and Wes Welker went undrafted, and Julian Edelman was a seventh-round pick. The Patriots have an illustrious history of hitting on wide receivers with minimal investment, causing a groundswell of excitement for the undrafted Chism. The slot role in OC Josh McDaniels' offenses has been a lucrative role worth targeting in fantasy. Demario Douglas, Stefon Diggs, and Ja'Lynn Polk are all in play for that role as well. But if Chism grasps it, he'll be one of the biggest steals from this year's rookie class.

Steelers | Calvin Austin, Robert Woods battling for starting role    Wed Jun 25, 12:16 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Calvin Austin is battling for a starting role in the offense but will face some competition from Robert Woods, in the opinion of Steelers Wire's Curt Popejoy.

Footballguys view: Woods is entering his age-33 season, but HC Mike Tomlin and OC Arthur Smith both like wide receivers who are willing to get dirty in the blocking game. Austin is younger and faster, but his size limitations could allow the veteran to get more snaps than many are expecting. Protecting an aging Aaron Rodgers will be a top priority, and Woods brings the edge there.

Seahawks | Cooper Kupp talks up Jaxon Smith-Njigba    Tue Jun 24, 03:22 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba 'plays a lot stronger than he gets credit for' and 'is incredibly competitive ... similar to what (Puka Nacua) was coming (into the league) as well,' according to new teammate and fellow receiver Cooper Kupp.'I think the first thing that struck me (about Smith-Njigba), he plays a lot stronger than he gets credit for. His decisiveness and belief in himself and what he can do. He's incredibly competitive. He knows he's not going to lose. It's similar to what Puka [Nacua] was coming in as well. Their competitiveness and play strength are very similar,' Kupp said.

Footballguys view: Smith-Njigba broke out in a huge way in 2024. With DK Metcalf now in Pittsburgh, his ascension is set to continue. Kupp is right in saying that Smith-Njigba is strong, and his athleticism is one of his best traits. And Kupp's best traits are between the ears. If some of Kupp's cerebral play rubs off onto Smith-Njigba, he has the tools to be one of the league's best receivers.

Panthers | Tetairoa McMillan left an impression during spring    Tue Jun 24, 02:42 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan was 'as advertised' prior to the collision that sidelined him for the final two days of mandatory minicamp, according to ESPN.com David Newton.'The goal is to get him comfortable with the system, the different types of plays, and the different formations. We're starting to make it more challenging in terms of moving him around in different spots. He's handling it great,'' head coach Dave Canales said recently.

Footballguys view: Dave Canales focused his pre-Carolina passing attacks around DK Metcalf and Mike Evans, two prototypical X receivers. McMillan is cut from the same cloth. And while they tried shoehorning Xavier Legette into that role last year, McMillan should find much more success. Bryce Young was red hot down the stretch last year. And if he can carry that effortless play over into 2025, McMillan could smash his WR27 ADP.

Buccaneers | Emeka Egbuka likely to be involved early    Tue Jun 24, 02:18 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka is going to 'have a big role in the offense - especially with Chris Godwin still recovering from ankle surgery - and even after,' according to ESPN.com's Jenna Laine.'The thing that sticks out is how cerebral he is. He's so smart. Right now, I think we could plug-and-play him at every (wide) receiver spot; he understands the offense that well. That's just him being a pro already,' quarterback Baker Mayfield said recently.

Footballguys view: If Godwin can't play to start the season, Egbuka profiles for the slot role, one that has been very lucrative in this Tampa Bay offense. While many are expecting a slow career start due to the intense target competition, the Buccaneers run a lot of 3WR sets. Egbuka could be a near full-time player right out of the gate, and possesses league-winning contingent upside if Godwin or Evans miss any time.

Cardinals | Heightened expectations for Marvin Harrison Jr.    Tue Jun 24, 12:55 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. is expected to 'make a jump' in his second season, according to The Athletic's Doug Haller, who notes that Harrison has bulked up and that QB Kyler Murray says that Harrison has a 'different confidence.'

Footballguys view: Despite a common notion that Harrison struggled in Year 1, 885 yards and eight touchdowns are nothing to scoff at. Harrison wasn't afforded the quick, easy routes many young receivers see. He was immediately asked to run every route in the book and often struggled to get on the same page with Kyler Murray. But the talent flashed, and a jump to superstardom in Year 2 wouldn't surprise many people.

Giants | Russell Wilson reveals why he chose NY Giants    Mon Jun 23, 01:09 PM

New York Giants WR Malik Nabers was the primary reason that Russell Wilson decided to sign with the team this offseason.'I came here because of (Nabers). I really wanted to play with someone who is special like him,' Wilson told Empire Sports Media's Anthony Rivardo.

Footballguys view: As a rookie, Nabers led the NFL in target share. He can make contested catches, get behind defenses, and create after the catch. He's a do-it-all receiver whom the Giants will hope to build around for the next decade. Whether it's Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, or Jaxson Dart under center, it probably can't get much worse than what Nabers dealt with (and found success in) last year.

Chargers | Mike Williams a favorite of QB    Sun Jun 22, 10:14 PM

Los Angeles Chargers QB Mike Williams will help improve the offense, according to QB Justin Herbert. '50-50 balls are not quite 50-50, as we've seen with Mike,' Herbert said. 'You need a play , a big-time play, he's going to go up and make it.'

Footballguys view: Despite coming up short of his early-career expectations, Williams has carved out a role as one of the league's best contested-catch receivers. Going into his age-31 season and having dealt with a slew of injuries, he might not be the player he once was. But he has the trust of Justin Herbert and could be valuable to start the season as rookie Tre Harris ramps up.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Travis Hunter signed his four-year, $46.65 million fully guaranteed contract. The deal includes a $30.57 million signing and bonus a fifth-year team option.

Footballguys view: With rookie contracts being tied to draft spot, not position, we'll still have five seasons before we get to the franchise tag discourse that will assuredly follow Hunter around for the rest of his career. But after moving mountains to select Hunter second overall, Jaguars fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the official paperwork for their rookie phenom is done.

Eagles | Jahan Dotson builds chemistry with QB    Sun Jun 22, 12:50 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jahan Dotson was able to build a connection with QB Jalen Hurts during offseason workouts because WR A.J. Brown and WR DeVonta Smith missed some of the workouts.

Footballguys view: After scoring seven touchdowns in just ten games as a rookie, there were hopes that Dotson, a first-round pick, would take a big step forward in Year 2. Unfortunately, his per-game numbers and touchdown rate both dipped before the Commanders traded him to the Eagles heading into Year 3. A condensed offense leaves little left for Dotson in Philadelphia. He'd likely need an injury to DeVonta Smith or A.J. Brown to warrant any consideration in fantasy.

Chargers | Ladd McConkey bulks up    Sun Jun 22, 12:31 PM

Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey appears to have added some weight this offseason but still showed a terrific chemistry with Justin Herbert during offseason practices.

Footballguys view: Although McConkey had a stellar rookie season, one of his few weaknesses was yards after the catch, where his per-reception rate was below the league average. McConkey was used at every level of the field last year. If extra weight and play strength can translate to more lay-up throws that allow him to create after the catch, he might not have even scratched the surface of his potential last year.

Jets | Garrett Wilson talking deal    Sun Jun 22, 12:10 PM

New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson has started contract extension talks with the Jets, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: The Jets already picked up Wilson's fifth-year option for next year. But the 24-year-old receiver has shown enough upside that the team wants to make him a part of their long-term vision. While we've yet to see an immense breakout, Wilson has provided at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three seasons in the league. Now reunited with his college quarterback, Justin Fields, he'll hope for a career year to provide him additional leverage in negotiations.

Bills | Elijah Moore expected to make team    Sun Jun 22, 09:23 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Elijah Moore is considered 'close to a lock' to wind up on the team's 53-man roster, in the opinion of The Athletic's Joe Buscaglia.

Footballguys view: There's been a steady drumbeat for Moore since he showed up in Buffalo this spring. Although he's yet to live up to his pre-draft expectations, he's been a consistent option on the teams he's played for. And after two-year stints with the Jets and Browns, he now gets to play with the best quarterback of his career. Moore is an underrated receiver who could find himself in a larger-than-expected role. Currently being drafted as the WR97, he's probably a bit undervalued.

Cardinals | Michael Wilson looking to improve stat    Sat Jun 21, 05:10 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Wilson said he hopes to average 13 to 15 yards per catch this upcoming season. He averaged 11.7 yards per catch in 2024.

Footballguys view: The per-game usage for Wilson remained almost identical from Year 1 to Year 2. But dips in target depth, yards after the catch, and missed tackles caused a drop in his overall production. While it's hopeful that Wilson can improve his efficiency going into Year 3, being third in the pecking order behind Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride will likely keep him a touchdown-dependent fantasy option for desperate managers.

Texans | Coach impressed with Jayden Higgins    Sat Jun 21, 02:27 PM

Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins was impressive during offseason practices and showed improvement each week, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. 'I've seen a guy who's steadily got better every single week. You've seen him make even more plays. Seeing him today, this is the most plays that he's made. In our last week of camp, to see a rookie who's come in and showing right now that he could be an impact player for us, I think it means a lot,' Ryans said.

Footballguys view: Another day, and another positive report about Higgins. His body control and 'my ball' mentality stood out on tape during his college career at Iowa State. The Texans have Nico Collins as their no.1 wide receiver, and Higgins looks to be earning the no.2 job so far. He's a depth piece for most fantasy teams to begin the 2025 season, but we could see him working his way into flex appeal as the year goes on.

Jets | Malachi Corley will need to catch up    Sat Jun 21, 02:11 PM

New York Jets WR Malachi Corley (undisclosed) missed some offseason practices because of an undisclosed injury and will have to find a way to catch himself up entering training camp, according to offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand.

Footballguys view: A third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Corley was a "YAC King" at Western Kentucky but only caught three passes for 16 yards (9 games, 1 start). With the turnover at head coach and general manager, Corley is missing any sort of draft pick protection that might have been afforded him with the previous regime. He's competing with guys like Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds to establish a pecking order behind Garrett Wilson.

49ers | Jacob Cowing earns praise during OTAs    Sat Jun 21, 10:00 AM

San Francisco 49ers WR Jacob Cowing's performance during organized team activities has impressed QB Brock Purdy. 'He's getting in and out of cuts and he's the first one to lead lines and show guys how routes are supposed to be run,' Purdy said. 'He's making a huge leap there.'

Footballguys view: He's standing out to his quarterback, and that's something to note this slow time of year. It's also something to keep track of when training camp and the preseason get here. Cowing had some Tyler Lockett comparisons when he came out of Arizona in 2024 as a fourth-round pick for the 49ers. He's got speed, route-running ability, and plays with a high football intelligence. In a crowded room behind WR Brandon Aiyuk, Cowing could stand out in the preseason. Stay tuned.

Las Vegas Raiders WR Dont'e Thornton Jr. has 'already become a top target' for QB Geno Smith, according to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com.

Footballguys view: Thornton can flat-out fly, and his speed allows him to take the top off the defense in a hurry. His connection with Smith is something to monitor as training camp opens up in late July. With good size as well, Thornton can be a threat to attack a defense in the red zone in addition to downfield targets. Earlier reports have suggested that Thornton is "further along than expected."

Giants | Darius Slayton meshing with QB    Sat Jun 21, 10:00 AM

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton has developed a 'quality connection' with QB Russell Wilson, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Slayton has 'what the heck' flex appeal for Fantasy GMs. Wilson should be the starter Week 1 for the Giants, and he may be starting the entire season if 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart isn't yet ready to take over. Let's see what this connection looks like in the preseason, but it sounds like Slayton could be a late-round flier in deeper drafts.

Steelers | Opportunity for Roman Wilson     Fri Jun 20, 09:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Roman Wilson will have a chance to prove he deserves a role in the offense during training camp and the preseason, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Wilson got injured early in training camp last year and only logged five offensive snaps for the entire season. He was a third-rounder in 2024 after being a key piece of Michigan's championship-winning team. There's reason to believe a healthy offseason can get him back on track, but he'll fight an uphill battle. The upside in an Aaron Rodgers-led offense is obvious. His ADP of WR88 makes him worth the minimal investment, especially in deeper leagues.

Chargers | Mike Williams expected to start    Fri Jun 20, 05:05 PM

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams is expected to be one of the starting receivers this season because of his experience with QB Justin Herbert in the past.

Footballguys view: Aside from Ladd McConkey, there's a lot of overlap among the potential WR2s in Los Angeles. Williams, Quentin Johnston, and Tre Harris are all big-bodied receivers with above-average speed. It makes sense that a familiar veteran would get the early nod as a starter. But he's far from the player he was early in his career, now four years removed from his last 1,000-yard season. The Chargers will likely hope that Harris, their second-round rookie, can climb the depth chart ahead of Williams throughout camp.

Chiefs | Tyquan Thornton impressing coach    Fri Jun 20, 02:03 AM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton performed well during minicamp, according to head coach Andy Reid. 'He's got the quarterback's trust,' Reid said. 'That's an important thing. He's gotten some valuable reps here.'

Footballguys view: Looking at the Chiefs' depth chart, it isn't easy to envision Thornton in a role that would provide any fantasy production. However, he's a former second-round pick with off-the-charts speed and athleticism, and still just 25. His situation in camp is worth monitoring, although it would probably take multiple injuries for him to find the field consistently.

Steelers | Quick passes for DK Metcalf?    Fri Jun 20, 02:03 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Metcalf could run more slant routes this year to help protect QB Aaron Rodgers, in the opinion of Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Metcalf has never been in an offense that's fed him easy targets. He's ranked well above the league average in target depth every year of his career. But game-breaking speed and after-the-catch tenacity could help him benefit from routes that get him the ball in stride across the middle of the field. Assuming Aaron Rodgers can keep the ship afloat, the lack of competition for Metcalf's touches makes a career year seem well within reach.
