Titans | A.J. Brown focused on better conditioning    Tue Aug 11, 03:51 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown told Jim Wyatt of the team's website that he noticed he looked fatigued in the fourth quarter of games in 2019 and has spent the offseason making sure to avoid a similar fate.'I have to be able to go through the entire game and make my routes look the same. I have to be well-conditioned. ... Looking back at some film, I left some plays out there because I was a little tired. I want to be all-around complete. ... I am definitely in a better place (physically), and I'm in a better shape mentally as well,' Brown said.

Footballguys view: Brown exploded onto the scene last year as a rookie, averaging a whopping 20.2 yards per catch. However, Brown's lowest YPC total per quarter came in the fourth quarter (14.8). We'll see if this new emphasis on better conditioning helps those numbers late in games this season. The Titans are a run-heavy offense but Brown should work his way into the top-15 for fantasy receivers.

Titans | Vic Beasley reports    Fri Aug 7, 11:47 AM

Tennessee Titans LB Vic Beasley reported for COVID-19 testing Friday, Aug. 7.

Footballguys view: Beasley had been away from the team and missed the opt out deadline, so it will be an interesting test case if he has a change of heart about playing this year, especially if the reason he didn't show was concerns about coronavirus. The Titans are counting on him to give pass rush presence opposite Harold Landry after he fizzled out with Atlanta.

Titans | QB a fan of Darrynton Evans    Fri Jul 31, 10:04 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Darrynton Evans has impressed QB Ryan Tannehill with his receiving ability. 'Catching the football, really natural,' Tannehill said. 'When you see a running back catch the ball naturally, whether they're coming out of the backfield or split out wide, it definitely adds another element to the offense and can give defenses a hard time.'

Footballguys view: Evans is going to do that to a lot of teammates. He's a no-nonsense runner who charges through the offensive line with authority. There's not a lot of dancing to his game, and he does offer some big-play ability with the rock in his hands. The rookie from Appalachian State will serve as the primary backup to Derrick Henry in 2020.

Tennessee Titans OT Isaiah Wilson was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, July 28, the team announced. Wilson was the 29th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The COVID-19 list was created for players who either test positive for the virus or have been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person. Wilson was expected to be the team's replacement for RT Jack Conklin who left in free agency. This move will set him further behind.

Titans | Kristian Fulton inks rookie pact    Mon Jul 27, 09:27 PM

Tennessee Titans second-round CB Kristian Fulton signed his four-year rookie contract Monday, July 27. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: Fulton has good size and movement ability for the cornerback position. He does not play against the run well and will need to improve that area of his game. Fulton does have instincts in coverage and does a good job of finding his way to the receiver on time.

Titans | Jonnu Smith set to shine?    Wed Jul 22, 09:42 PM

Tennessee Titans TE Jonnu Smith is the 'undisputed TE1' heading into 2020, according to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com, and Wyatt said he is optimistic Smith will take 'another big step' forward this season.

Footballguys view: Smith took the lead last year when Delanie Walker couldn't stay healthy (again) and Fantasy GMs are looking forward to a breakout year. He finished as the no.17 fantasy tight end last year and could break into the top-12 this season. Smith has a current ADP of TE15 (13.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Titans | Darrynton Evans under contract    Wed Jul 22, 03:12 PM

Tennessee Titans third-round draft choice RB Darrynton Evans signed a four-year contract with the Titans Wednesday, July 22. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Derrick Henry's new long-term contract was a gut punch for Evans fantasy value. The rookie from Appalachian State will be a clear backup who gets a few touches here and there. Evans is a hard-charging running back who understands angles and will hit the hole quickly.

Titans | TEN still looking at Jadeveon Clowney?    Thu Jul 16, 05:40 PM

Free-agent LB Jadeveon Clowney (Seahawks) is still being monitored by the Tennessee Titans, according to general manager Jon Robinson on NFL Live Thursday, July 16. Robinson said the Titans 'may or may not' have had contact with Clowney's representatives within 'the last week.'

Footballguys view: The long term deal with Derrick Henry gave the Titans a lot of cap relief - perhaps enough to land Clowney. He has to be encouraged by the organization's willingness to pay players who peak in contract years.

Titans | Derrick Henry agrees to extension    Wed Jul 15, 04:09 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry agreed to a new four-year contract with the Titans Wednesday, July 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: The terms were later announced at four years, 50 million, with 25.5 million guaranteed. So basically the Titans gave Henry two franchise tags plus a few million up front for security and Henry will have a chance to earn his year three and four salaries with play over the next two years. It's not that different from the deal Le'Veon Bell signed with the Jets and sends a clear signal that the Titans are going to give this team a two or three year window to push for the top of the AFC and a Super Bowl berth.

Titans | Derrick Henry unlikely to strike deal    Tue Jul 14, 09:07 AM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry is unlikely to strike a long-term deal by the franchise tag deadline Wednesday, July 15, according to a source. He's scheduled to make $10.27 million and become a free agent next offseason.

Footballguys view: Darrynton Evans dynasty value will take a leap on this news. The Titans probably won't sign Henry to a long term deal next year as a 27 year old, but they could tag him again for a little over 12 million dollars. It's cruel, but riding running backs into the ground and not signing them to second deals looks smart in light of how backs have been performing on second market-setting contracts.

Titans | Patience needed for Derrick Henry deal    Thu Jul 9, 05:42 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry has less than a week to sign a long-term contract, or he will play the 2020 season under the franchise tag. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel stressed Thursday, July 9, deal's like these take time and patience is needed on both sides. 'Derrick signed his franchise tender, he's under contract,' Vrabel said. '... Having been involved with the NFL for a lot of years, getting deals done is about being patient, hopefully keeping them private and confidential. So I'm going to try to respect that, and understand that we love Derrick and he understands how important he is to our football team. Again, his leadership that grew last year, I'm looking forward, I know our team is looking for more of that this year.'

Footballguys view: It seems like the desire to sign players to long term deals is diminishing with coronavirus casting a shadow over near-term league revenues. Henry is likely to have to play under the tag this year and he and the team will revisit the proposition next year.

Titans | No Derrick Henry extension close    Wed Jul 8, 03:29 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry is not close to a long-term contract extension at this point. Henry's representatives have been talking with the Titans this offseason about a new deal.

Footballguys view: Henry and the team have until July 15th to work out a long-term deal. He's signed his franchise tender and is set to play in 2020 on a one-year, $10.278 million franchise tag. They'll work diligently to get a new contract worked out by next week's deadline.

Titans | GM would like to meet with Jadeveon Clowney    Wed Jul 8, 03:10 PM

Free-agent DE Jadeveon Clowney (Seahawks) has received interest from the Tennessee Titans this offseason, but general manager Jon Robinson said he would like to meet with Clowney and have the team doctors examine him before working on a contract.

Footballguys view: Last month, Robinson said he believed the Titans were a "pretty good fit" for the veteran pass-rusher. The Browns are likely out now after restructuring the contract for Olivier Vernon. That leaves the Seahawks, Raiders and perhaps the Titans as the most probable landing spot. We should see Clowney sign with a team before training camp.

Titans | Darrynton Evans on third down?    Wed Jul 8, 11:58 AM

Tennessee Titans third-round pick RB Darrynton Evans is expected to fill RB Dion Lewis' role on third down.

Footballguys view: Evans played running back and even a little slot receiver earlier in his college career at Appalachian State. He was the starter over the last two seasons and displayed a decisive running style with little wasted motion. He catches the ball cleanly and can even be used as a return man if need be.

  Titans | A.J. Brown a big-play WR in 2019    Thu Jul 2, 03:19 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown recorded six receptions of at least 50 yards in 2019. No other receiver in the NFL had more than four receptions of at least 50 yards.

Footballguys view: Brown was highly efficient as a rookie year. Most believe he can not possibly sustain that level, but he can improve in his second year and he can also get more volume as the clear #1 receiver going into this season. You'll probably have to spend a third round pick if you want him.

Titans | Logan Woodside may have edge in competition    Sat Jun 27, 02:55 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Logan Woodside may have an edge over QB Cole McDonald for the No. 2 quarterback job because he is more familiar with the offensive scheme, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: Woodside has experience while McDonald is the rookie in the mix. McDonald was a gunslinger during his college career at Hawaii, constantly attacking all levels of the field with his arm. Woodside was a seventh-round pick of the Bengals in the 2018 NFL draft. During his college career at Toledo he threw a whopping 73 touchdowns over his final two seasons with the Rockets. We'll see this battle unfold in training camp and the preseason.

Titans | A.J. Brown in rare air    Mon Jun 22, 10:28 PM

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. Brown averaged 12.5 yards per target as a rookie in 2019 - the fifth-best mark for a receiver with at least 40 catches since targets started getting tracked in 1992.

Footballguys view: Brown is going to go in the top 50 of drafts and potentially even the third round. His numbers with Ryan Tannehill back that up. If pass defenses focus on him, it could be a breakout year for Corey Davis. Brown's efficiency from last year will be tough to sustain, but his volume could take a big enough jump to more than make up for it.

Titans | Cole McDonald under contract    Mon Jun 22, 04:15 PM

Tennessee Titans seventh-round draft choice QB Cole McDonald agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Titans Monday, June 22. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: McDonald is a player we are watching in deep dynasty formats. During his college career at Hawaii, McDonald showed that he wasn't afraid to attack all levels of the field as a passer. He is confident in his arm and is known as a rhythm passer. McDonald wasn't asked to make full-field reads in college and he'll have to learn how to work better from under center as he primarily operated out of the shotgun. He'll compete for a spot in the pecking order behind starter Ryan Tannehill.

Titans | Derrick Henry productive after contact    Sun Jun 21, 01:25 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry has averaged 4.5 yards per carry after contact over the last two seasons.

Footballguys view: A lot of that is coming on chunk plays once Henry breaks into the second level of the defense. He could set career highs this year if Ryan Tannehill plays 16 games.

Titans | A.J. Brown outstanding on play action    Thu Jun 18, 06:45 PM

Titans | Ryan Tannehill deadly over the middle    Mon Jun 15, 09:05 PM

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill posted an NFL-best passer rating of 154.2 on throws over the middle of the field in 2019, according to Inside Edge NFL.

Footballguys view: Tannehill works the middle of the field and will pick his spots when to attack down the field. He is helped by a tremendous ground game which opens things up as defenses jam the box to stop the run. Tannehill's primary weapons in the passing game are WR A.J. Brown and TE Jonnu Smith, and they should continue getting targeted early and often in 2020.

Titans | Jonnu Smith saw a lot of short stuff in 2019    Sun Jun 14, 07:40 PM

Tennessee Titans TE Jonnu Smith's depth of reception average of 4.9 yards was the fourth-lowest mark by any receiver or tight end with at least 40 targets in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Footballguys view: Smith worked well as a security blanket for QB Ryan Tannehill. He took over or Delanie Walker last year as the veteran couldn't stay healthy, and Smith had a career-high 35-catch season. The Titans are a run-first offense, so Smith's numbers could be quite similar this year...making him a low-end TE2 for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Titans | Dennis Kelly may be top option at RT    Sun Jun 14, 04:38 PM

Tennessee Titans OT Dennis Kelly likely will be the leading candidate for the right tackle job over OT Isaiah Wilson because he has experience in the offense, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: Wilson projects as a long-term road grader at right tackle, but he probably isn't ready for NFL pass rushers yet. The Titans reached a bit for him in the first round, but he is a good fit for their offense. Kelly is a quality swing tackle and has been good when filling in for Jack Conklin and Taylor Lewan since coming over from Philadelphia in the Dorial Green-Beckham trade in 2016.

Titans | Tennessee talking with Derrick Henry    Thu Jun 11, 06:21 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry's agent has talked with the Titans multiple times over the last few weeks regarding a long-term contract for Henry, according to general manager Jon Robinson.

Footballguys view: Henry signed his franchise tag back in early April. He's now on the books for a one-year, $10.2 million price tag. In mid-July there is a deadline for all franchise-tagged players to reach a new long-term deal. We'll see if the Titans can get something done with Henry to keep him around for years.

Titans | Coaches still high on Corey Davis?    Sun Jun 7, 09:10 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis is still well liked by the coaching staff, according to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com, but Wyatt believes Davis is playing for his future with the team in 2020.

Footballguys view: Davis was outplayed last year by rookie A.J. Brown. His fifth-year option was declined so this is his final season under contract with the Titans. The former first-round pick has talent and is worth taking a chance on late in your draft just in case he puts up good numbers in a contract year.

Titans | More rush opportunities for Rashaan Evans?    Sun Jun 7, 07:31 PM

Tennessee Titans LB Rashaan Evans is a 'star in the making' in the opinion of beat writer Jim Wyatt, who believes he will be given more opportunities to 'get after the quarterback' after logging 2.5 sacks in 2019.

Titans | Adoree' Jackson could see a lot of slot snaps    Sun Jun 7, 06:01 PM

Tennessee Titans CB Adoree' Jackson could assume a different role in the secondary in 2020, including the possibility of logging extensive snaps as the nickel in sub packages.

Footballguys view: The Titans will need to replace Logan Ryan's impactful play from the slot and Jackson certainly has the quickness and speed to match up with slot receivers and experience outside to match up with #1 receivers when they move inside on passing downs. Tennessee is hoping he earns the fifth-year option they picked up for 2021.

Titans | Jack Crawford to be pushed for starting job    Sun Jun 7, 03:03 PM

Tennessee Titans DT Jack Crawford is the leading candidate for one of the starting spots on the defensive line but is expected to compete with DE Isaiah Mack and DT Larrell Murchison for the job. All three probably will receive snaps at the position during the season.

Footballguys view: The Titans have a hole to fill after trading Jurrell Casey to the Broncos for a seventh-round pick. Casey is 30 and due over 11 million dollars this year, but he is still a top option. The Titans haven't done anything with the extra cap room yet, but some have said they could sign Jadeveon Clowney.

Titans | Timmy Jernigan not an option yet    Sat Jun 6, 06:21 PM

Free-agent DT Timmy Jernigan (Eagles) has not received any interest from the Tennessee Titans at this point, according to TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.

Footballguys view: The Titans have an opening on the line after curiously trading Jurrell Casey to the Broncos for a seventh-round pick with no corresponding move to indicate why they wanted to open up that cap room. Jernigan did not take a physical and was cleared by a spinal specialist after previously having neck issues. The Seahawks could be a landing place for him.

Titans | Darrynton Evans' role uncertain    Sat Jun 6, 06:20 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Darrynton Evans' role will be determined on how much he will be able to handle, according to head coach Arthur Smith. Evans probably will be used when RB Derrick Henry needs a rest.

Footballguys view: Evans is a hard-charging running back who understands angles and will hit the hole quickly. He's not a power back like Henry, but the rookie from Appalachian State handled a large workload in college and didn't cough up the rock. He had 467 touches over the last two years without a fumble. That reliability means the Titans could count on him when Henry needs a breather.

Titans | Derrick Henry's carries may vary    Wed Jun 3, 06:05 PM

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry's carries will change depending on how each game is going this upcoming season, according to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Footballguys view: Henry is going to be the centerpiece of the offense, and he should be able to post at least RB2 numbers for Fantasy GMs on a weekly basis. He won't be used much as a receiver out of the backfield because that's not his forte. However, he should get a heavy workload as a runner which boosts his fantasy value.
