Colts | Indy finale for T.Y. Hilton?    Mon Aug 10, 10:54 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton is entering the final season of a five-year, $65 million contract. 'If this is my last year (in Indianapolis), I will give it all I've got,' Hilton said recently in an interview with an Indianapolis TV station.

Footballguys view: The offense goes through Hilton, or at least the passing game does. He's in line for a productive season and should quickly become QB Philip Rivers favorite target. That means good things for Fantasy GMs who invest in Hilton...and Hilton as he's investing in himself. A big season could mean another big-money deal for the veteran who will turn 31-years old this year.

Colts | T.Y. Hilton feeling better    Mon Aug 10, 01:14 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) is reportedly feeling good and believes he has 'maybe a couple more days' before he is ready to practice, although the team's training staff may hold him back for a week just to be on the safe side.

Footballguys view: Hilton is looking to stay healthy and show off with his new QB Philip Rivers. As the Colts top option, Hilton could outperform his current ADP of WR24 (5.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Colts | T.Y. Hilton placed on NFI list    Sun Aug 2, 12:06 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (hamstring) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list Sunday, Aug. 2, because of a mild hamstring injury he suffered while training, according to a source. He is not expected to be sidelined for long.

Footballguys view: Hilton needs to be careful with this hamstring injury as it can linger or worsen if he tries to come back too soon. The veteran receiver doesn't need a ton of reps in training camp, so we're not too concerned about his availability or projections for the beginning of the regular season.

Colts | Big year for Trey Burton?    Wed Jul 29, 10:37 PM

Indianapolis Colts TE Trey Burton is going to have 'a really productive year' in 2020, according to Stephen Holder of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: Burton had hip surgery in December but is expected to be ready for Week 1. He's looking to rejuvenate his career after his time with the Bears didn't go as expected. Burton has athleticism and talent, so the Colts might try to use him in two-TE sets with Jack Doyle. Keep him on your waiver wire speed dial just in case Burton gets the 'Eric Ebron' treatment in 2020.

Colts | T.Y. Hilton to remain a critical part of offense    Mon Jul 20, 09:50 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton is 'still the main piece of this offense' and 'who this pass offense runs through,' according to offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni.'I expect a great bounce back from a year he had a lot of injuries. I expect the 2018 version of him (76 catches, 1,270 yards, seven touchdowns). If T.Y. stays healthy, there's no doubt that's what we'll see. ... He's still the main piece of this offense. T.Y. Hilton is who this pass offense runs through,' Sirianni said.

Footballguys view: There's not many playmakers in the WR corps for the Colts outside of Hilton. He should be the favorite target for Philip Rivers and could easily finish as a top-25 wide receiver for Fantasy GMs in 2020. Hilton has a current ADP of WR22 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Colts | Malik Hooker expected to start    Wed Jul 8, 07:20 PM

Indianapolis Colts FS Malik Hooker is expected to be one of the starting safeties this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Hooker didn't have his fifth-year option picked up and the team drafted Julian Blackmon (Utah) in the third round, who plays Hooker's free safety position. Blackmon is coming off an ACL injury and he like all rookies will be hurt by the lack of an offseason, so Hooker should have every opportunity to make the Colts wish they had picked up his option. He could follow in the footsteps of Kyle Fuller and DeVante Parker and end up with a long term deal from the team that turned down the fifth year option on his rookie deal.

Colts | Jordan Wilkins not a lock for 2020 roster    Tue Jun 30, 03:11 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jordan Wilkins is 'not a slam dunk' to make the team in 2020, according to Kevin Bown of 1075 The Fan. Bowen says Wilkins will need to lock down a presence on special teams to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

Footballguys view: Wilkins is a talented back who can work on all three downs but he just keeps getting pushed down the depth chart. Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines were already in place above him in the pecking order, then the Colts added RB Jonathan Taylor in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. Now, Mack and Taylor will split carries while Hines gets it done on third downs. That doesn't leave much for Wilkins in the backfield.

Colts | Philip Rivers threw INTs on deep passes    Fri Jun 26, 02:15 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers threw nine interceptions on throws that traveled at least 20 yards during the 2019 season when he was a member of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Footballguys view: Rivers threw interceptions all over the field. Is he done, or was 2019 just a bad year? Rivers is getting close to the end of his career, but he was interesting enough to the Colts for them to add him and make him their starter. We'll see if he can bounce back and cut down on the picks in 2020.

Colts | Jordan Wilkins unlikely to see many snaps    Fri Jun 19, 06:52 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jordan Wilkins has a chance to win the No. 4 running back job during training camp but likely would not see much playing time during the regular season, in the opinion of ColtsWire's Kevin Hickey.

Footballguys view: The Colts made a strong move in the 2020 NFL draft when they selected Jonathan Taylor in the second round out of Wisconsin. He was one of the best running backs in this draft class and should work in tandem with Marlon Mack to give the Colts a heckuva 1-2 punch. Add in Nyheim Hines as a receiving back and you can see how Wilkins, although talented, is no.4 on the depth chart.

  Colts | Philip Rivers a big-time passer?    Fri Jun 19, 12:38 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers in 2019 tied for second in the AFC with the Cleveland Browns' Baker Mayfield and the Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes with 27 big-time throws (Pro Football Focus' highest-graded throws on precise downfield passes).

Footballguys view: Rivers also made a lot of mistakes on downfield throws last year and appeared to be in decline. Hopefully a better offensive line and strong running game helps him become more efficient. Mayfield's number is encouraging in an otherwise discouraging season. Mahomes would have led the league in this stat if he had played 16 games.

Colts | Quenton Nelson shuts out pass rushers    Thu Jun 18, 09:52 PM

Indianapolis Colts OG Quenton Nelson did not allow a sack on 559 pass-blocking snaps in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Nelson has been a huge hit and the Colts also got three second-round picks when they traded down from the third pick to the sixth pick, where they selected him. He'll be a big help to Jonathan Taylor and Philip Rivers.

Colts | Michael Pittman worked out with teammates    Wed Jun 17, 06:37 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. said he was able to work out with QB Jacob Eason and WR Dezmon Patmon this offseason.

Footballguys view: Pittman can win the no.2 job for the Colts opposite of T.Y. Hilton if he performs well in training camp and the preseason. The rookie from USC has size and can win at the catch point...certainly when he catches the ball at the highest level. His routes and strength on contested catches needs improvement but we like his overall game.

Colts | Michael Pittman officially under contract    Tue Jun 16, 05:18 PM

Updating a previous story, Indianapolis Colts second-round WR Michael Pittman officially signed his four-year rookie contract Tuesday, June 16. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Pittman is a big-bodied rookie from USC who can go up high and get the football. He's tall, strong and has a large wingspan which allows him to get to passes that smaller defenders just can't reach. We'd like to see him run better routes and be a little bit more physical at the catch point. Pittman is competing with the likes of Parris Campbell to be the no.2 receiver opposite of T.Y. Hilton in 2020.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor not concerned with timeshare    Tue Jun 16, 04:12 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor said Tuesday, June 16, he isn't concerned about splitting time with RB Marlon Mack in 2020. 'You don't count the reps, you make the reps count,' Taylor said.

Footballguys view: That sounds like Taylor. He's the ultimate 'lunch pail' running back who just wants to show up and punish defenders. There's not a lot of nuance to his game, but Taylor wastes little motion and can be tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. Add in RB Nyheim Hines catching passes out of the backfield and you see a three-headed RBBC for the Colts this year.

Colts | Michael Pittman signs rookie deal    Mon Jun 15, 06:54 PM

Indianapolis Colts second-round draft choice WR Michael Pittman Jr. signed a four-year contract with the Colts Monday, June 15. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Pittman is a big-bodied rookie from USC who can play 'above the rim.' He's got a large wingspan and makes for a great target down the field. Pittman is strong but sometimes doesn't dominate as much as he should against smaller defenders. He will compete to be a no.2 receiver for the Colts in 2020.

Colts | Philip Rivers throwing passes to teammates    Wed Jun 10, 04:26 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers said he has been working out with WR Parris Campbell and TE Jack Doyle over the last few days.

Footballguys view: What does Rivers have left in the tank? That's the largest question for this upcoming season when it comes to the veteran quarterback. He was throwing interceptions left and right in 2019 and needs to cut down on those turnovers this season. We'll see if these workouts help him have quick chemistry with his new teammates.

Colts | Marlon Mack kept offense on track    Tue Jun 9, 10:40 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack ranked fourth in the league with 67 first downs rushing in 2019.

Footballguys view: Mack is a hard-charging running back who gets it done on rushing downs. He's getting some help this year as the Colts selected Wisconsin star RB Jonathan Taylor in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. Mack and Taylor will split time on first and second downs while Nyheim Hines should still contribute as the primary pass-catching running back for the Colts in 2020.

Colts | Philip Rivers to work out with teammates    Mon Jun 8, 03:14 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers is planning voluntary workouts with some of his teammates in Indianapolis next week, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Rivers gets a fresh start with the Colts in 2020. His game looked nearly shot last year with the Chargers as he was throwing picks left and right. With a much better offensive line and plenty of weapons around him in the rushing and passing attacks, we could see Rivers enjoy a bounce-back season. Fantasy GMs are looking at him as a low-end QB2 with a current ADP of QB19 (12.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor in spot to thrive    Mon Jun 8, 09:52 AM

Indianapolis Colts second-round pick RB Jonathan Taylor is in the best position of drafted running backs to succeed, according to Pro Football Focus' Michael Renner. The team's offensive line is returning all five starters, and the line ranked third in PFF's rankings last season.

Footballguys view: That's true about the Colts O-Line as they have one of the best units in the entire NFL. However, Taylor is going to be splitting time with Marlon Mack this year...and Nyheim Hines will get plenty of work as a receiver out of the backfield. That means his 'success' won't be as great as other rookie running backs who get a larger workload. Taylor should be efficient as a two-down banger (who splits time) for the Colts in 2020.

Colts | Several candidates to start at DE    Sun Jun 7, 03:03 PM

Indianapolis Colts DEs Kemoko Turay, Ben Banogu and Al-Quadin Muhammad are expected to compete for one of the starting defensive end jobs during training camp.

Footballguys view: Turay has the highest ceiling, but is coming off of an ankle injury that ended his 2019 in October. The Colts invested second round picks in Turay and Banogu, so they need to get some production out of that spot opposite Justin Houston.

Colts | Two options for DT job    Sun Jun 7, 02:36 PM

Indianapolis Colts DTs Grover Stewart and Sheldon Day are expected to compete for one of the starting defensive tackle jobs during training camp.

Colts | Jonathan Taylor can fix fumbling problem    Thu Jun 4, 04:06 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor fumbled 18 times during his three years at Wisconsin, but running backs Tom Rathman said Taylor can correct the problem with better fundamentals.

Footballguys view: That's good news if Rathman can fix the problem. Taylor had a huge workload in college at Wisconsin but is going to be splitting time with Marlon Mack as the team's primary ball-carriers. Nyheim Hines should get plenty of work as a third-down option in 2020.

Colts | Nyheim Hines wants to be returner    Wed Jun 3, 04:55 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Nyheim Hines said he wants to be the team's main kick and punt returner this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: Hines just wants to get on the field more and make plays. With his speed and agility in the open field, Hines can work well as a return man...just like he works well as a receiver out of the backfield. With new QB Philip Rivers, Hines should be a favorite target and could be his new Austin Ekeler. He won't catch 92 passes like Ekeler did for Rivers last year, but Hines could be in line for around 40 catches in 2020.

Colts | Indy starving for improved safety play    Tue Jun 2, 10:14 PM

Indianapolis Colts S Khari Willis and free-agent S Clayton Geathers (Colts) ranked fourth and first, respectively, among all safeties who appeared in at least 14 games in catch rate allowed in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions. Receivers recorded a catch on 16 of the 18 passes (88.9 percent) thrown in Geathers' direction, while Willis gave up a reception on 15 times in 19 targets (78.9).

Colts | Marlon Mack still the guy    Tue Jun 2, 09:47 AM

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack has inherent respect as the starter, according to head coach Frank Reich. 'I see it as a 1-1 (punch),' Reich said, referring to Mack and second-round pick RB Jonathan Taylor. 'The way the league has gone and the way roleplaying has been elevated in our league, it's made it prominent. We used to say in San Diego that when we had Danny Woodhead. He was not our starter, he was our 'role-playing' starter. He played such a significant role. He had 80 catches in a year. You look at a guy like Nyheim Hines. We talk about Marlon and Jonathan, but what about Nyheim? He's such a good third-down back that he'll play a prominent (role). In some ways, (Hines) is a starter. He's a role-playing starter.'

Footballguys view: Mack may still be 'the guy' but that definition has changed. Drafting Jonathan Taylor is a clear indication of at least a RBBC...for the carries in this Colts offense. Hines is going to get the most use as a receiver out of the backfield. Fantasy GMs need to adjust accordingly.

Colts | Coach excited about Mo Alie-Cox    Mon Jun 1, 04:21 PM

Indianapolis Colts TE Mo Alie-Cox is a player that head coach Frank Reich believes is in line for a productive season in 2020. Reich said Alie-Cox significantly improves his route running last season.

Footballguys view: Alie-Cox never played college football, but the Colts picked him up as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He played college basketball at VCU, and that's the skill set he brings to the football field. Alie-Cox is big, athletic and knows how to use his frame to 'box out' smaller defenders. We'll see what kind of role Alie-Cox can carve out behind starting tight end Jack Doyle.

Colts | Nyheim Hines on track for big role    Mon Jun 1, 04:19 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Nyheim Hines will have a prominent role in the offense this upcoming season as the third-down back, according to head coach Frank Reich.

Footballguys view: Hines could work well with new QB Philip Rivers. When he was with the Chargers, Rivers made a fantasy star out of RB Austin Ekeler because of how much he targeted him as a receiver out of the backfield. The team has Marlon Mack and rookie Jonathan Taylor to split the workload as runners, but Hines is clearly their best receiving back. That gives him deep flex appeal at least in PPR leagues for the 2020 season.

Colts | Parris Campbell able to learn from lost rookie season    Sat May 30, 05:07 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell is focusing on the things he was able to learn as a rookie in 2019, rather than the time he missed due to injury. 'I am going in with the mindset that it's a new year,' Campbell said. 'I have kind of transformed myself into a pro, and I have been able to see at least one season - maybe it's not all 16 games, but I've seen just from watching and being in it, just getting the experience of being an NFL player. Just having that experience has helped me a lot.'

Footballguys view: Campbell said he has been running routes at full speed for the last two months and has recovered from all of the injuries (hand, foot) he dealt with during his rookie season in 2019. His speed and burst make him a player to watch in dynasty formats.

Colts | Philip Rivers feeds off run game    Fri May 29, 12:41 PM

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers brings a strong play-action game to the team's attack, and head coach Frank Reich says the Colts plan to take full advantage. 'In 2013 when (current Colts offensive coordinator) Nick (Sirianni) and I were first there, (Rivers) had statistically one of his better years and we ran the ball well that year,' Reich said. 'Then you go back and look at the years with LT (LaDainian Tomlinson) and how effective he was in the passing game. He's always been great in the passing game, but I don't think there's any doubt he's been most efficient and played his best football when he has a good running game.'

Footballguys view: Good thing the Colts can run the ball effectively. Not only do they have Marlon Mack to bang it between the tackles, but they also selected Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor in the 2020 NFL draft. That is a fantastic 1-2 punch (or 1-1 punch) for the Colts offense and should help open things up for Rivers and the play-action passing game.

Colts | Parris Campbell healthy    Wed May 27, 04:31 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell said he has been running routes at full speed for the last two months and has recovered from all of the injuries he dealt with during the 2019 season.

Footballguys view: Campbell had to deal with hand and foot injuries last year as a rookie and it limited his production. He played in only seven games as a result of those injuries. Healthy now, we're interested to see how quickly he can build chemistry with new starting QB Philip Rivers. Campbell has the burst and speed to make big plays anytime he touches the ball.

Colts | Parris Campbell to play more in slot    Tue May 26, 07:55 PM

Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell will play more in the slot in 2020, according to head coach Frank Reich Tuesday, May 26. 'I'm super pumped about Parris and his upside,' Reich said.

Footballguys view: Campbell was limited to just seven games as a rookie in 2019 and we're interested to see how he meshes with veteran QB Philip Rivers. He's got big-play ability with the speed and burst to score from anywhere on the field. If healthy, Campbell could be worth a 'what the heck' flex in certain matchups.

Colts | Jacob Eason focused on consistency    Mon May 25, 09:10 AM

Indianapolis Colts fourth-round pick QB Jacob Eason had a tendency to force passes into tight windows in college because he has such a strong arm. Those windows close quicker in the NFL, and Eason knows he has to work on consistency and avoid tunnel vision locking on receivers. 'I think his arm talent was probably the best in the draft as far as quarterbacks go,' head coach Frank Reich said. 'What I liked about his arm talent is he can throw it on a rope, he can throw it long, he can throw with touch, he can change the speed on the ball and he can deliver from different arm angles.'

Footballguys view: Eason is an interesting prospect. Some think he could be the QB of the future for the team, while others think he can't be more than a backup at the pro level. He needs a clean pocket to look his best. Eason has arm talent and is known as a rhythm passer. If he stays on time, then he can thrive and build on his confidence throw after throw. If Eason is rushed or moved off his point, then things go South quickly. We'll see how he develops behind Philip Rivers in 2020.

  Colts | Marlon Mack a big-play back    Sat May 23, 01:06 PM

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack tied for third in the league with nine rushes of 20 yards or more in the 2019 season.

Footballguys view: Mack is the big-play back and he's going to split time with another dangerous runner, rookie Jonathan Taylor, in 2020. With the addition of Taylor in the draft, the Colts should continue to emphasize the run. Nyheim Hines should still work as their pass-catching back.
