Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett will be under consideration to be the starting quarterback in 2021, according to general manager Chris Ballard. 'I don't want to discount Jacoby,' Ballard said. 'We still like Jacoby Brissett and think he's a good player. Let's not take Jacoby out of the mix completely here.'
Footballguys view: Brissett is a top end backup, but he might only be an adequate starter, which would be a disappointing route for a team in a Super Bowl window to take. Brissett has some value in 2QB/Superflex leagues, but in 1QB leagues he would be a pedestrian option at best. |

Indianapolis Colts TE Mo Alie-Cox was one of five tight ends to average at least 2.0 yards per route on 150-plus routes during the 2020 season, joining Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, Las Vegas Raiders TE Darren Waller, San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle and Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews.
Footballguys view: There's more there with Alie-Cox if the Colts ever gave him a larger role. For the 2020 season, the Colts used a TEBC featuring Jack Doyle, Trey Burton and Alie-Cox. Burton is set to be an unrestricted free agent, so perhaps Alie-Cox will play more snaps if Burton leaves the Colts. Doyle is signed through the 2022 season. Alie-Cox is a restricted free agent in 2021. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers announced his retirement Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Footballguys view: It didn't take long for Rivers to decide that 17 seasons was enough. He still had something left in the tank, but Rivers is now going to coach high school football in Alabama. Rivers finishes his career having passed for over 63,000 yards and 421 passing touchdowns, so expect to see him in the Hall of Fame someday. The Colts are likely to lose Jacoby Brissett in free agency, so they're 100 percent in the quarterback market both in free agency and the draft. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers (toe) should be fine without surgery on his injured toe, according to GM Chris Ballard, who added that if Rivers does go the surgical route it would be 'nothing major.'
Footballguys view: Good news for the veteran quarterback here. The Colts and Rivers are going to give things about a month before talking about whether or not Rivers will continue to play for the Colts or move on in free agency. Rivers still has the ability to be a slightly above average starter. |

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (Achilles) 'deserves a good contract,' Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Thursday, Jan. 14, but added that he doesn't know if the team will be in position to offer the pending free agent one this offseason.
Footballguys view: Mack appeared in one game in 2020, the season opener, before going down with this injury. It's an unfortunate way for his season with the Colts, and likely time with the Colts, to end. Mack has talent but coming off this major injury is going to negatively impact his free agent market. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers met with the general manager Chris Ballard for an hour earlier this week, Ballard said Thursday, Jan. 14, as Rivers heads into the offseason pondering his future. 'Do I think Philip can still play? Absolutely,' Ballard said. 'He's going to take some time, and we're going to take some time. We'll meet again in about a month.'
Footballguys view: Unlike his draft classmate Ben Roethlisberger, Rivers did not look washed up this season. The Colts are looking for a young franchise quarterback to take over but bringing back Rivers for one more go would make sense. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers said he is not sure if he will play next season.
Footballguys view: Rivers played some good football at times this season. He led the Colts to the playoffs and it came down to the last throw against the Bills. Rivers is not washed up and he's set to be a free agent this offseason. The Colts will want to know his plans ASAP so they can make their own plans at quarterback. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers went 27-for-46 for 309 yards and two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card playoff game. RB Jonathan Taylor rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries, while RB Nyheim Hines rushed for 75 yards on six carries. WR Michael Pittman Jr. caught five passes for 90 yards on 10 targets, TE Jack Doyle caught seven passes for 70 yards and one touchdown on nine targets, WR Zach Pascal caught three passes for 37 yards and one touchdown on five targets and WR T.Y. Hilton caught two passes for 32 yards on five targets.
Footballguys view: The Colts fought hard in this game. They did enough on offense, especially with Taylor rushing the rock. A missed field goal and a failed fourth-and-goal attempt could have turned this thing in the Colts favor. We'll now have to see if Rivers is going to come back as the team's starter for another year in 2021. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Philip Rivers (toe) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 7, and is not on the injury report for the Wild Card playoff game.
Footballguys view: The Colts are set to feed rookie RB Jonathan Taylor as much as possible. That will set up play-action passing for Rivers and his receiving weapons. The Bills secondary can be tricky to go up against, but Rivers has no fear. |

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (shoulder) was limited in practice all week but was removed from the injury report Thursday, Jan. 7.
Footballguys view: Taylor is ready to rock and we are excited to see the rookie get to work in the postseason. The Colts will play a Bills defense that will be focused on stopping Taylor first and foremost. |

Indianapolis Colts PK Rodrigo Blankenship has struggled with longer distanced kicks this season. Special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone said Wednesday, Jan. 6 that Blankenship has made kicks up to 60 yards in practice, but that range is likely to shrink outdoors in colder weather such as during the AFC wild-card game against the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Jan. 9.

Free-agent S Nick Nelson (Raiders) and TE Jordan Thomas (Patriots) were signed to Reserve/Future contracts by the Indianapolis Colts Tuesday, Jan. 5.
Footballguys view: Thomas is a player we'll still monitor in crazy deep dynasty formats. He's a converted wide receiver and a huge target. He's bounced around the league a little bit but that skill set makes him intriguing. |
