  Panthers | Carolina's Week 2 injury report    Fri Sep 12, 03:41 PM

Carolina Panthers DT Tershawn Wharton (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 12, and has been ruled out for Week 2. OT Ikem Ekwonu (illness) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. LB Patrick Jones II (ankle), WR Hunter Renfrow (ribs), OG Robert Hunt (foot), OG Damien Lewis (ankle, shoulder), DE A'Shawn Robinson (groin) and CB Akayleb Evans (illness) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Footballguys view: Ekwonu is recovering from an August 24 appendectomy. The team will err on the side of caution, but if their starting left tackle can play on Sunday, it should be a boost for Bryce Young, who certainly needs one right now.

Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan posted five receptions for 68 yards on a game-high nine targets in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in his NFL debut.

Footballguys view: McMillan wasn't disappointing in his debut and lived up to the clear #1 target billing right away, but Bryce Young was uneven at best, and isn't going to support a breakout season unless he finds his 2024 post-bye form. McMillan will face a middling Cardinals secondary next week.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard ran 16 times for 57 yards in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, while adding three receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown on five targets.

Footballguys view: The Panthers like Rico Dowdle, but Hubbard was still the clear lead back, and he got the garbage time score. Hubbard won't hit his ceiling unless Bryce Young plays better than he did on Sunday, but he's still a reliable RB2 nonetheless.

Panthers | Bryce Young shaky in Week 1    Sun Sep 7, 05:49 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young completed 18-of-35 passes for 154 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he added five runs for 40 yards. Young was sacked once, and he also lost a fumble.

Footballguys view: Young wilted against a Jaguars defense that wasn't highly regarded coming into this game. He seemed to revert to the less than confident player he was before getting benched last year. We'll be watching closely next week against the Cardinals to see if Young can turn it around. He's not worth carrying in 1QB leagues after this clunker.

Panthers | Ikem Ekwonu doubtful for Week 1    Fri Sep 5, 12:52 PM

Carolina Panthers LT Ikem Ekwonu (appendix) is doubtful for Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Footballguys view: Yosh Nijman and Brady Christensen are the possible replacement for Ekwonu. Head coach Dave Canales did not say who would start in his place. The Panthers have solid depth at tackle and shouldn't be as affected by this as some other teams would be.

Panthers | Chuba Hubbard's workload to be watched    Thu Sep 4, 09:39 AM

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard 'won't be ran dry' early in the season, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Hubbard had almost 300 touches last year (250 carries, 43 receptions) as a workhorse for the Panthers. Perhaps this year, the team will give Rico Dowdle and rookie Trevor Etienne some more work to give Hubbard a breather. This week against Jacksonville, we like Hubbard as an RB2 with upside.

Panthers | Big season ahead for Tetairoa McMillan?    Tue Sep 2, 12:41 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan was already expected to be a big part of the team's passing game, according to Joseph Person of The Athletic, and now that the team has traded away WR Adam Thielen (to the Minnesota Vikings) and WR Jalen Coker (quad) has landed on Injured Reserve, Person believes McMillan will top 1,000 yards in receiving as a rookie. Person adds that McMillan and QB Bryce Young developed chemistry working out together before the draft, and Young will 'rely heavily' on McMillan this season.

Footballguys view: According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Panthers believe the improvement Young showed toward the end of last season will carry over into 2025. Coaches feel like Young has turned a corner in terms of his confidence and outward competitiveness. That's why they were aggressive in finding a true WR1 for Young. McMillan is a big-bodied wideout who brings plenty to the table, finishing fifth in the FBS with 109.9 receiving yards per game last season. His strong hands, wide catch radius, and diverse route tree will allow him to become a reliable target for Young quickly.

Panthers | More on Jalen Coker's injury    Tue Sep 2, 12:39 AM

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker's (quadriceps) quadriceps injury is the same injured quadriceps that made him miss three games last season, a source told The Athletic's Joseph Person.

Footballguys view: Again, reports out of Carolina on Sunday suggested a six-week absence is possible. We know for sure Coker will miss four games after being placed on IR. Hunter Renfrow re-signed with the club to help fill the void in the slot.

Panthers | Jalen Coker has a quad strain    Mon Sep 1, 12:31 PM

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker (quadriceps) has a significant quad strain, according to head coach Dave Canales.

Footballguys view: A report out of Carolina on Sunday suggested Coker, who is out at least four games, could end up missing six weeks because of this injury. Coker was poised to start in the slot after Adam Thielen was dealt to Minnesota, but that spot will go to Hunter Renfrow, who rejoins the team after an up-and-down training camp. It remains to be seen if any of the team's receiving assets beyond rookie Tetairoa McMillan emerge as viable fantasy assets, but we'll watch for signs that's happening in coming weeks.

Carolina Panthers RB Trevor Etienne is listed as the team's third-string running back behind RBs Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle.

Panthers | Jalen Coker injury update    Sun Aug 31, 03:27 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker (quadriceps) is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks because of his quadriceps injury, according to a source. He was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Aug. 30.

Footballguys view: Coker will be on our waiver wire watch list when he returns, but this injury is concerning long term because it is the same injury that sidelined him for three games last year. Coker's conditioning was an issue with Dave Canales during the offseason, but the head coach praised him for his progress, which makes this injury even more disappointing. Coker was poised to start in the slot after Adam Thielen was dealt to Minnesota, but that spot will go to Hunter Renfrow now.

Panthers | Jalen Coker lands on injured reserve    Sat Aug 30, 12:22 PM

The Carolina Panthers placed WR Jalen Coker (quadriceps) on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Aug. 30, due to a quadriceps injury.

Footballguys view: This quad injury is going to keep Coker out of action for at least the first four weeks of the regular season. When Coker returns to the field, he could provide some big plays from the slot for the Panthers. While he's out, Hunter Renfrow was brought back to fill that role.

Panthers | Carolina re-signing Hunter Renfrow    Sat Aug 30, 12:09 PM

The Carolina Panthers will re-sign free-agent WR Hunter Renfrow to their active roster Saturday, Aug. 30, according to multiple sources.

Footballguys view: Jalen Coker has a quad injury that has put him on IR/Designated to Return. Renfrow was cut just a few days ago as he failed to make the 53-man roster at final cuts. He returns to fill the slot role while Coker is on the mend. In PPR formats, we'll be curious to see if Renfrow can provide some deep flex value.

Panthers | Ja'Tavion Sanders making strides    Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM

Carolina Panthers TE Ja'Tavion Sanders has really improved as a pass catcher, according to head coach Dave Canales.

Footballguys view: It takes time for tight ends to fully develop at the pro level. Entering his second pro season, Sanders has the athletic profile to be a receiving weapon for the Panthers. From a fantasy perspective, Sanders is a TE3 worth keeping an eye on if/when he's on your waiver wire in deeper leagues.

Ekwonu didn't practice on Thursday, Aug. 28, and likely won't on Monday either as the players have the long weekend off. However, head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Thursday that he is 'super hopeful' that Ekwonu will be available.

Panthers | Ja'Seem Reed, Bryce Pierre to PS    Wed Aug 27, 05:57 PM

Panthers | Tetairoa McMillan on field Tuesday    Tue Aug 26, 03:24 PM

Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan (hamstring) is participating in practice Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Footballguys view: McMillan was sidelined a little more than a week due to a minor hamstring injury. Still, as CBSSports.com suggests, getting back on the field more than a week before the Panthers kick off Week 1 prep bodes well for the eighth overall pick in this year's draft being available at Jacksonville on Sunday, Sept. 7. For now, we'll watch for more between now and next Wednesday, when Carolina is required to post their initial Week 1 injury report.
