Seahawks | DK Metcalf ironing out issues    Fri Aug 7, 09:52 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf said his main focus this offseason was on decreasing his drops, and head coach Pete Carroll said Metcalf spent 'at least a month' working with QB Russell Wilson.

Footballguys view: Metcalf needs to know he doesn't have to do everything, as that's where a lot of his focus drops came from. He'll learn to make the catch, then turn to think about yards after the catch. Last year as a rookie there were times when Metcalf wanted to do too much before securing the catch, leading to drops. He should be sharper in this department in 2020.

Seahawks | Marcell Dareus an option for SEA?    Fri Aug 7, 04:04 PM

Free-agent DT Marcell Dareus (Jaguars) could be an option for the Seattle Seahawks since they are looking to add depth at the defensive tackle position, in the opinion of Sirius XM NFL Radio's Adam Caplan.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks added Jamal Adams in a huge trade but he doesn't the lack of experience and run-stuffing presence on the defensive line. Dareus makes sense for Seattle as a player to contribute on first and second down and obvious run situations.

Seahawks | SEA eyeing LBs    Thu Aug 6, 12:36 PM

Free-agent LB Clay Matthews (Rams) and LB Everson Griffen (Vikings) have received interest from the Seattle Seahawks.

Footballguys view: The two have a history with Seahawks coach Pete Carroll from their days together at USC. Seattle has been thinking about bringing back LB Jadeveon Clowney but his asking price might be too rich. Griffen has reportedly been getting interest from the Packers for some time but no deal has yet to materialize. Matthews hasn't gotten much interest on the open market but that could change with camps opening up around the league.

Seahawks | Rashaad Penny put on PUP list    Tue Aug 4, 02:47 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Penny's availability for the start of the regular season is in question. He could be on the PUP list to start the season, thus missing at least the first six weeks.

Seahawks | Will Dissly cleared for camp    Tue Aug 4, 02:39 PM

Seattle Seahawks TE Will Dissly (Achilles) passed his physical upon reporting the training camp Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: Dissly has talent but he's often injured. If healthy, Dissly can make plays for the offense all over the field. We'll see how he mixes in with veteran TE Greg Olsen who is going to be the starter and primary target at the position.

Seahawks | Will Dissly making good progress    Mon Aug 3, 04:50 PM

Seattle Seahawks TE Will Dissly (Achilles) is making good progress in his recovery but will be eased back into practice, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Dissly passed his physical at the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: Dissly has certainly flashed talent in his pro career. However, he's just appeared in 10 games (scoring six touchdowns) in two seasons. Injuries have prevented Dissly from playing up to his full potential. The Seahawks have added veteran Greg Olsen this offseason to lead the way at the position. Dissly is a high-value reserve for the team but has limited fantasy value for 2020. He's a good dynasty prospect if healthy and starting...so long as this latest injury doesn't rob him of too much athleticism.

Seahawks | Six rookies sign with Seattle    Tue Jul 28, 06:21 PM

Seattle Seahawks first-round pick LB Jordyn Brooks, fourth-round pick RB DeeJay Dallas, third-round pick G Damien Lewis, fifth-round pick DE Alton Robinson, seventh-round pick WR Stephen Sullivan and second-round pick Darrell Taylor all signed four-year rookie contracts Tuesday, July 28. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Dallas has little to no nuance to his game. He's a straight-ahead banger who can grind down an opponent as the game goes on. In a way, his game is similar to that of starter Chris Carson.

Seahawks | Quinton Dunbar placed on exempt list    Mon Jul 27, 03:08 PM

Seattle Seahawks CB Quinton Dunbar was placed on the Commissioner's Exempt list Monday, July 27, a source said.

Footballguys view: This comes from the charges of paying off witnesses in an armed robbery case earlier this year. Dunbar and Giants cornerback Deandre Baker are both on the list as their two teams wait for the legal process to take its course. Both of their roster spots could be in jeopardy.

Seahawks | Jordyn Brooks agrees to rookie deal    Mon Jul 27, 12:51 PM

Seattle Seahawks LB Jordyn Brooks agreed to terms Monday, July 27, on a four-year, $12.35 million contract that includes a team option for a fifth year. Brooks will receive a $6.45 million signing bonus.

Footballguys view: Brooks has a ton of athleticism and the play range to strike from sideline to sideline. There are concerns about his game in coverage, so expect him to work diligently to improve that skill. All he does is make plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage as evidenced by his 20.0 tackles for a loss in 2019 for the Red Raiders.

Seahawks | Jamal Adams to play on rookie deal    Mon Jul 27, 09:11 AM

Seattle Seahawks S Jamal Adams agreed to play out 2020 on his rookie deal before the Seahawks finalized the trade to land him. He'll make about $3.59 million this season, and he would be due $9.86 million in 2021 if a long-term deal isn't done.

Footballguys view: Adams wants a new long-term deal but he chose to stay on his rookie deal just to get away from Adam Gase and the Jets. He's one of the best in the game at his position, so Adams should get a deal that makes him among the league's highest-paid safeties after this season.

Seahawks | Seattle trims eight from roster    Sun Jul 26, 05:42 PM

Seattle Seahawks C Joey Hunt, RB Patrick Carr, WR Seth Dawkins, OGs Kahlil McKenzie and Jordan Roos, CB Josh Norwood, LB Sutton Smith and TE Dominick Wood-Anderson were waived Sunday, July 26.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks had Hunt start eight games last year, but it looks like free agent BJ Finney will replace him as the team deemed him expendable in the push to get down to 80.

Seahawks | Branden Jackson sent packing    Sun Jul 26, 05:15 PM

Seattle Seahawks DE Branden Jackson was released Sunday, July 26.

Footballguys view: Jackson has been a spot starter and useful depth for Seattle at times, but the team drafted two edge rushers and his 2.1 million dollar deal was too much for a team that just might be trying to free up cap space to get Jadeveon Clowney after all.

Seahawks | Jadeveon Clowney no longer an option?    Sun Jul 26, 01:32 PM

Free-agent DE Jadeveon Clowney (Seahawks) likely will not be an option for the Seattle Seahawks moving forward after the team acquired S Jamal Adams, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Titans should be considered a favorite to get Clowney at this point, but he also might wait to see if a team develops a need at edge rusher during camp.

Seahawks | Seattle acquires Jamal Adams    Sat Jul 25, 04:32 PM

New York Jets S Jamal Adams was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks Saturday, July 25, in exchange for S Bradley McDougald, a 2021 first-round draft choice, a 2021 third-round draft choice and a 2022 first-round draft choice. The Seahawks will also receive a 2022 fourth-round pick in the trade.

Footballguys view: Seattle gets a superstar player in Adams, and they pay a premium price to get him. Adams can rush the passer in addition to standing out in coverage and run defense. He's a do-everything safety who could thrive in Seattle's defense. Now, Seattle must find a way to ink Adams to a long-term deal.

Seahawks | Seattle expected to pursue Josh Gordon    Wed Jul 22, 07:35 PM

Free-agent WR Josh Gordon (Seahawks) is a player the Seattle Seahawks would like to re-sign if he is reinstated, according to 710 ESPN's John Clayton.

Footballguys view: Gordon has been indefinitely suspended but he is hoping to get reinstated before the start of training camp. ESPN's Brady Henderson reports that Gordon has continued to live in Seattle. This reunion seems likely if Gordon is allowed to play. He'd give the Seahawks more veteran depth behind Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf.

Seahawks | Josh Gordon could return    Fri Jul 17, 03:15 PM

Free-agent WR Josh Gordon (Seahawks) could re-sign with the Seattle Seahawks if he is reinstated before the 2020 season, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. Gordon has remained in the Seattle area this offseason and would like to play for the Seahawks.

Footballguys view: Gordon wouldn't be as big a threat to Tyler Lockett or DK Metcalf's fantasy outlook as an Antonio Brown signing, but he would be an upgrade to their WR3 spot nonetheless. He's unlikely to be fantasy relevant wherever he lands, but re-joining Seattle would upgrade Russell Wilson's stock.

Seahawks | Seattle not close to deal with Antonio Brown    Fri Jul 17, 03:14 PM

Free-agent WR Antonio Brown (Patriots) received some interest from the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason, but the two sides are not close to a contract agreement because of his off-field issues, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The league hasn't settled on a suspension or otherwise resolved Brown's status with the league in light of off-field incidents, so that could be the holdup in coming to an agreement. The Seahawks remain one of the most likely if not the most likely team to sign Brown.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson efficient in 2019    Wed Jul 15, 09:45 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson's 6.2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in 2019 was the best among quarterbacks who finished in the top 10 in passing yardage, and he was the only quarterback to rank in the top five in QBR on throws inside and outside the pocket.

Footballguys view: Wilson did this while having his attempts jump by almost 100. He remains underrated in league and fantasy circles and could easily be the #3 fantasy quarterback this year. Wilson is worth a pick in the top 5-6 quarterbacks off of the board.

Seahawks | Shaquem Griffin on bubble?    Thu Jul 9, 07:01 PM

Seattle Seahawks LB Shaquem Griffin looms as a 'bubble' player entering training camp, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times.

Footballguys view: Griffin was a feel good story when the Seahawks took him in the fifth round in 2018 and reunited him with his twin brother Shaquill. He needs to make an impact as a situational pass rusher or hope his special teams prowess wins him a job this summer.

Seahawks | Jadeveon Clowney more likely to return to Seattle?    Tue Jul 7, 07:17 PM

Updating a previous story, free-agent LB Jadeveon Clowney (Seahawks) is becoming more likely to return to the Seattle Seahawks in 2020, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times.

Footballguys view: That's the way things are trending right now for the veteran pass-rusher now that the Browns are likely out of the running. The Raiders have offered Clowney a contract but it's lower than what other teams (like the Seahawks?) have on the table. Clowney believes that he will be signed with a team before the start of training camp.

Seahawks | Tyler Lockett hard to handle inside    Thu Jul 2, 10:36 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett accumulated 770 receiving yards out of the slot in 2019 - the fourth-highest total in the league - according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Lockett should remain the primary slot receiver for the Seahawks, but if they sign Antonio Brown, his snap and target count might come down. He has still been underrated in early draft as his ADP doesn't reflect that he was a top 10 fantasy receiver before he got hurt in Week 10.

Seahawks | Antonio Brown interested in Seattle    Thu Jul 2, 07:28 PM

Free-agent WR Antonio Brown (Patriots) is interested in signing with the Seattle Seahawks, and it is believed that QB Russell Wilson would like the Seahawks to sign Brown.

Footballguys view: There's no doubt that this would hurt the outlook of Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, but you might argue that they have been vastly undervalued anyway and will still be worth targeting if their ADP drops after the Seahawks add Brown. Anyone with Russell Wilson on their fantasy team should be very excited about this prospect. Brown could be suspended at the beginning of the season for his off-field troubles, but chances are it won't be more than 2-4 games.

Seahawks | Two could share nickel back snaps    Thu Jul 2, 07:17 PM

Seattle Seahawks CB Ugo Amadi and S Marquise Blair could share playing time at the nickel back position this upcoming season and alternate depending on the matchup.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks used Mychal Kendricks in their nickel package often last year and had a true nickel defensive back on the field fewer times than any other team. Amadi could be targeted a lot if he doesn't improve from his rookie year performance last season and Blair was drafted more to play the Kam Chancellor role than nickel back. This area of transition will be tested early and often by opposing passing games.

Seahawks | Brandon Shell top option at RT    Thu Jul 2, 04:23 PM

Seattle Seahawks OT Brandon Shell is considered the leading candidate for the starting right tackle job entering training camp.

Footballguys view: His two-year, $11 million dollar deal and the Seahawks getting him early in free agency means that if he doesn't win the job, Seattle will probably regret the move. Reclamation project and 2015 Cincinnati first round pick Cedric Ogbuehi and 2018 fifth-round pick Jamarco Jones are the players most likely to push Shell for the job.

Seahawks | Several may compete for returner job    Sat Jun 27, 02:56 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR Penny Hart, WR John Ursua, WR David Moore, RB DeeJay Dallas, RB Travis Homer and S Ugo Amadi may compete for the punt returner job during training camp.

Footballguys view: We think Hart could be the guy with the edge here. He was undrafted out of Georgia State in 2019 (Colts) but did flash in the pre-draft process, especially when he was at the Senior Bowl. He's lightning quick and has speed to his game to boot. That could work well as a return man and reserve receiver for Seattle in 2020.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson tops in PFF metric    Sat Jun 20, 12:42 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson led the league in 2019 with 40 big-time throws (Pro Football Focus' highest-graded throws on precise downfield passes).

Footballguys view: Wilson should rank high on the big-time throw list in 2020 as well. It's his touch when throwing down the field coupled with the fact that he does such a great job of extending plays. There are many reasons why Wilson is one of the best in the game and this piece of advanced data is just another point.

Seahawks | Two TEs have chance to make roster    Fri Jun 19, 07:23 PM

Seattle Seahawks TEs Jacob Hollister and Luke Willson likely will both make the final roster because of TE Colby Parkinson's (foot) injury, in the opinion of NBC Sports Northwest's Joe Fann.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks have talent at the top of the tight end depth chart with Greg Olsen and Will Dissly. We should see Olsen as the seasoned veteran leader at the position with Dissly getting some work...if he can stay healthy. Hollister is a good, athletic move tight end who has never really played up to his potential. Willson is a savvy veteran who is mostly asked to block.

Seahawks | Colby Parkinson rehabbing broken foot    Fri Jun 19, 02:44 PM

Seattle Seahawks TE Colby Parkinson (foot) had surgery June 2 to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his foot and has been rehabbing since, according to a report Friday, June 19.

Footballguys view: Parkinson is a candidate for the PUP list at least, if not injured reserve, with Greg Olsen, Jacob Hollister, and Will Dissly on the roster at tight end. He could play a larger role in 2021, but this will slow his development. Parkinson's game is basically that of an oversized slot receiver, so remember his name in deep and tight end dynasty leagues.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson successful on play action    Mon Jun 15, 04:37 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson threw for 1,545 yards, 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions on play-action passes during the 2019 regular season and postseason.

Footballguys view: Wilson also completed 71.3 percent of play-action passes in 2019. The Seahawks could use more passing on first down and otherwise more offense running through Wilson this year. He is often available outside of the top five quarterback, but he could finish in the top three if pass attempts go up for the second straight year.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson exceptional at play-action    Sun Jun 14, 05:15 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson completed 71.3 percent of his passes for 1,545 yards, 11 touchdowns and no interceptions when passing out of play-action in 2019 (including playoffs), according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks could use more passing on first down and otherwise more offense running through Wilson this year. He is often available outside of the top five quarterback, but he could finish in the top three if pass attempts go up for the second straight year.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson tops in improvisation    Sat Jun 13, 02:06 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson led all quarterbacks with a 94.6 Pro Football Focus grade on passing plays lasting longer than 3 seconds in 2019.

Footballguys view: Wilson can make things happen. He always has done a good job of breaking the pocket but keeping his eyes downfield for a throw. If nothing's there, then Wilson can use his legs to pick up first downs. That dual-threat ability makes him one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the league.

Seahawks | Marquise Blair in line for significant snaps?    Thu Jun 11, 09:43 PM

Seattle Seahawks S Marquise Blair will 'get a lot of consideration' to be used in the nickel package, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Footballguys view: Blair was drafted in the second round last year to play the Kam Chancellor role in the defense long term and should start sooner than later. Bradley McDougald or Quandre Diggs could lose snaps to Blair this year.

Seahawks | Rashaad Penny will not be rushed back    Thu Jun 11, 06:01 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) is making solid progress in his recovery but will not be rushed back to the field, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll said the team can wait for Penny because of the addition of RB Carlos Hyde.

Footballguys view: The team added Hyde because Penny is not going to be ready for the start of the regular season. We should see Penny placed on the PUP list for the beginning of the season, forcing him to miss the first six weeks. Chris Carson is the starter and Hyde is the veteran backup.

Seahawks | Colin Kaepernick unlikely an option    Thu Jun 11, 05:47 PM

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll indicated that free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers) likely will not be an option for the Seahawks.

Seahawks | Freddie Swain signs deal    Mon Jun 8, 04:29 PM

Seattle Seahawks sixth-round draft choice WR Freddie Swain signed a four-year contract with the Seahawks Monday, June 8, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Swain has an unpolished game but could immediately contribute on special teams as a return man. He led the Gators in 2019 with seven touchdown receptions and has 12 combined over his last two collegiate seasons (he scored once every 4.5 catches at Florida). Swain only had one drop in 2019 and did most of his damage from the slot. His game is rough around the edges but the ball skills and athleticism are there enough for us to keep track of Swain in deep dynasty formats.

Seahawks | Carlos Hyde understands role    Mon Jun 8, 03:40 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Carlos Hyde said he knows that he will be competing for the No. 2 running back job and that RB Chris Carson is the starting running back.

Footballguys view: Hyde is coming off a 1,000-yard season on the ground last year with the Texans but he's a clear reserve in Seattle. Hyde should be able to win that no.2 job in training camp, making him a high-value handcuff for Fantasy GMs with deep benches.
