Seahawks | Jamal Adams, Duane Brown sitting out    Fri Jul 30, 12:29 AM

Seattle Seahawks S Jamal Adams and OT Duane Brown are present but not participating during the early part of training camp as they wait for contract extensions, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

Footballguys view: The Seahawks usually get these situations sorted out before they become a problem, but obviously both are key players and indispensable to the team's 2021 season. Adams still has a year left on his rookie deal, so it's possible that the team will try to convince him to put off an extension until after the season. Brown has forced a trade in the past (from Houston to Seattle), so his situation could require more flexibility from the Seahawks.

Seahawks | Rashaad Penny slims down    Thu Jul 29, 10:48 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny told reporters Thursday, July 29, that he dropped 12 pounds from his college weight of 235 and 'is the lightest I've ever been (since turning pro).' Head coach Pete Carroll seconded Penny's assertion, stating that Penny is the 'best he's looked since we've seen him.'

Footballguys view: Penny is over his offseason knee surgery in a piece of good news. He will try to hold off Alex Collins to back up Chris Carson after Carson had a good spring. We'll be monitoring this situation to have clarity on who to target if Carson goes down, but this is still Carson's backfield in any event.

Seahawks | Seattle adds Cameron Scarlett    Fri Jul 23, 09:02 PM

Free-agent RB Cameron Scarlett (Titans) signed with the Seattle Seahawks Friday, July 23.

Footballguys view: Scarlett wasn't able to stick with the Titans as a UDFA last year. The Seahawks signed him to fill the roster spot opened by the release of Tamorrion Terry after his legal trouble was discovered in June. The Seahawks don't have an entrenched backup running back behind Chris Carson. Rashaad Penny had another knee surgery this offseason and Alex Collins stood out in his absence this spring.

Seahawks | Dede Westbrook to visit    Fri Jul 23, 05:58 PM

Free-agent WR Dede Westbrook (Jaguars) is scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, July 23, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Westbrook is visiting the Vikings first and they have a huge opening at #3 receiver, but Westbrook could also have a chance to be the #3 receiver in Seattle if second-round pick DWayne Eskridge isn't ready to contribute because of a toe injury that sidelined him this spring.

Seahawks | K.J. Wright keeping door open for SEA    Wed Jul 21, 11:01 AM

Free-agent LB K.J. Wright (Seahawks) said he's not closing the door on the Seattle Seahawks. 'Yes, there is a chance,' Wright said. 'There is a chance, and I'm not closing the door on Seattle. Going into free agency, I thought it'd be a no-brainer, but they're going to wait until training camp, so we'll see.'

Footballguys view: Wright would fit in a lot of defenses, but might prefer returning to the only team he has ever played for with not much cap room left for teams to induce him to sign elsewhere.

Seahawks | DK Metcalf in rare company    Sun Jul 18, 08:32 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf is one of four receivers in history with at least 2,200 receiving yards and 17 receiving touchdowns in their first two seasons in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Metcalf started out hot last year, but slowed down like the rest of the Seahawks pass offense in the second half of the year. There is already talk that the tempo of the offense will speed up this year under new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, who was Sean McVay's passing game coordinator for the Rams previously. Metcalf is going to cost a second round pick, but could be worth a first.

Seahawks | SEA not sold on Russell Wilson?    Tue Jul 13, 11:24 AM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and the team appear to have a tolerable relationship for now, but there's a sense the team isn't sold on him long term, in the opinion of NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Things were building up with Wilson and the Seahawks, kind of like what we're seeing with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers...then...things were smoothed over and both sides were saying the right things. They might just be giving Wilson one more year to start before deciding to move on. It sounds ridiculous because Wilson is a superstar but here we are. Let's see what he can do in 2021 and what Seattle does with him in 2022.

Seahawks | Alex Collins pushing for roster spot    Sun Jun 27, 07:42 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Alex Collins received the most reps of any running back during minicamp and 'looks trimmer and faster' than he did in his first stint with the Seahawks, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Collins is the top back who is available for the Seahawks right now. He's always had talent but bounced around the league during his time in the pros. Collins will compete for a spot behind starter Chris Carson in training camp. Rashaad Penny is recovering from (another) knee surgery, Travis Homer is dealing with a calf problem, and Carson missed minicamp due to personal matters.

Seahawks | TE Everett Could Breakout in 2021    Wed Jun 23, 01:31 PM

Curtis Crabtree, from Pro Football Talk, reports that in a recent interview on 710 ESPN Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll stated that he believes tight end Gerald Everett could be a breakout player for them this season. "Oh, I think you're going to be really excited to see Gerald Everett," Carroll said. " ... This is I think the fanciest, sweetest-looking receiver/tight end mix that we've had. He's like a wide receiver, he's got terrific after-the-catch run ability, really aggressive and he's a good blocker, too, and he knows the system inside and out. What Gerald brings us is a real threat in the throwing game. Should be a big factor on third down."

Footballguys view: Another day, another positive story about Everett (listen to the drumbeat here). Everett has always had the potential to do more but never quite lived up to expectations with the Rams. He gets a fresh start with the Seahawks and has a chance to be a favorite target of QB Russell Wilson. We like Everett as a streaming option if you wait at tight end, and he's got a current ADP of TE22 (14.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Seahawks | Big year for Gerald Everett?    Fri Jun 18, 11:39 PM

Seattle Seahawks TE Gerald Everett was mentioned by head coach Pete Carroll as a breakout candidate for 2021.

Footballguys view: Everett, a second-round pick for the Rams back in 2017, has flashed ability during his time in the NFL. However, he was in a cramped offense with the Rams and his quarterback play could have been better. Enter 2021 and Russell Wilson. That is an exciting prospect for Everett if he finally plays (consistently) up to his potential. We like him as a streaming option if you wait at tight end, and he's got a current ADP of TE22 (14.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Seattle Seahawks DL Robert Nkemdiche is 'going to be a real competitive part of this (defensive line) group,' according to head coach Pete Carroll.'He's got a really good spirit about him. He's upbeat, active, he's explosive and has really good quickness. He's over 300 pounds and he moves really well. He's going to be a real competitive part of this group. ... His mentality is like he has a second chance on his football life and he knows that, which is really important. He's trying to seize every opportunity and ... we're really happy to have him as part of this thing. We think he's going to be a factor,' Carroll said.

Seahawks | D'Wayne Eskridge not practicing    Tue Jun 15, 07:52 PM

Seattle Seahawks WR D'Wayne Eskridge (toe) is not practicing during the mandatory minicamp this week because of a toe injury.

Footballguys view: This sounds like a turf toe, and that's a troubling injury that can linger. Good thing they have a big break before the start of training camp later this summer. Eskridge is an exciting speed player who can fly down the field. Hopefully he can shake this toe injury and showcase his talent in the preseason.

Seahawks | Rashaad Penny recently had surgery    Tue Jun 15, 07:50 PM

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (knee) is not participating in practice this week because he recently had knee surgery.

Seahawks | No trade request from Russell Wilson    Thu Jun 10, 06:20 PM

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson said he did not ask for a trade this offseason and is ready to win with the Seahawks.

Seahawks | Seattle brings Travis Toivonen aboard    Tue Jun 8, 03:30 PM

Free-agent WR Travis Toivonen (North Dakota) signed an undisclosed contract with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, June 8.

Footballguys view: Toivonen was a four-year starter at North Dakota and put up some nice numbers in college. He went undrafted in 2020, and then signed with the Fan Controlled Football League. Toivonen worked out at the University of Minnesota's Pro Day in April and caught the attention of Seattle's scouts. Fantasy GMs in crazy deep dynasty formats love this type of addition.

Seahawks | Seattle looking into Julio Jones    Wed Jun 2, 05:36 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is drawing trade interest from the Seattle Seahawks, but it's expected the Falcons would need to retain some salary in any potential deal, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.

Footballguys view: The Falcons are reportedly weighing several offers for Jones, and that may include some team willing to part with a first-round pick for the veteran superstar receiver. The Seahawks have worked diligently to make QB Russell Wilson happy this offseason, and adding Jones would be a cherry on top. They already have Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf and rookie D'Wayne Eskridge but if they get Jones it would make them even more dangerous through the air. They could easily have Jones and Metcalf on the outside with Lockett doing work from the slot. It's an exciting idea to be sure...let's see if it comes to fruition.

Seahawks | Seattle interested in Julio Jones    Sun May 30, 02:15 PM

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is receiving trade interest from the Seattle Seahawks, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Seattle has made QB Russell Wilson happy this offseason with moves to make the offense better. Adding a guy like Jones would certainly put a smile on his face too. The Seahawks are somewhat set at the position with Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf, plus they have speedy rookie D'Wayne Eskridge as their no.3 wideout. However, adding Jones would be a boost for most any team out there. We'll see if Seattle can get into the mix for the veteran superstar.

Footballguys view: Things are all good with Wilson and he's locked in for 2021. These workouts are voluntary, so not a big deal if Wilson is not there. He'll be at any mandatory workout in the future and seems to be happy with the changes/additions the Seahawks have made this offseason for him to thrive.
