Buccaneers | Ke'Shawn Vaughn activated    Thu Aug 6, 05:42 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Aug. 6.

Footballguys view: Vaughn will be trying to demonstrate mastery of the offense to get some snaps behind veterans Ronald Jones and LeSean McCoy, but he has a tough path to climb to have fantasy relevance this year without injuries to his backfieldmates.

Buccaneers | M.J. Stewart cut    Thu Aug 6, 05:37 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB M.J. Stewart was released Thursday, Aug. 6.

Footballguys view: Stewart was a second round pick in 2018 but failed to get a firm hold on a role in the defense, or now even on the roster. He was used at outside corner and slot corner and even started six games, but was quickly pushed down the depth chart.

Buccaneers | LeSean McCoy may be part of passing game    Wed Aug 5, 03:39 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB LeSean McCoy probably will have a role in the passing game this season, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Arians has already said that Ronald Jones is the starting running back. That means McCoy is working for a change-of-pace role behind Jones. While Jones is a RB3 for Fantasy GMs, McCoy may only work out as a 'what the heck' flex play but only in super deep leagues.

Buccaneers | Tyler Johnson dealing with injury    Wed Aug 5, 02:06 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Tyler Johnson (undisclosed) has been limited during practice because of an undisclosed injury.

Footballguys view: Johnson was the team's fifth-round pick out of Minnesota and he's got intriguing upside in dynasty formats. He's a big slot receiver with the strength to run through arm tackles. He'll compete for a spot in the pecking order behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Buccaneers | Ronald Jones will be starting RB    Wed Aug 5, 01:51 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones will be the main ball carrier for the Buccaneers this season, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Footballguys view: Jones finished as the no.27 fantasy running back last year and has similar upside this season. Defenses are going to be focused on slowing down QB Tom Brady and those receiving weapons, so Jones could clean up on the ground if he plays up to his potential. He has a current ADP of RB30 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Buccaneers | LeSean McCoy deal officially done    Tue Aug 4, 06:08 PM

Updating previous stories, free-agent RB LeSean McCoy (Chiefs) officially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Footballguys view: McCoy may not be the player he used to be but he can still be an important piece in a running back room. He's going to at least give the team veteran depth, but McCoy could push for playing time. The Bucs have rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Ronald Jones at the top of the depth chart and this has the makings of a three-headed RBBC which can be a problem for Fantasy GMs.

Buccaneers | LeSean McCoy financials    Thu Jul 30, 06:06 PM

Updating a previous story, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB LeSean McCoy's one-year deal is worth just over $1 million, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Thursday, July 30.

Footballguys view: McCoy was not used by the Chiefs down the stretch last year as they made a run at the Super Bowl. Now, he'll get the chance to be a larger part as the Buccaneers are clearly in a Super Bowl window themselves.

Buccaneers | LeSean McCoy catches on with TB    Thu Jul 30, 05:58 PM

Free-agent RB LeSean McCoy (Chiefs) reached agreement on a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, July 30.

Footballguys view: McCoy gets a chance with another Super Bowl contender. The veteran back was with the Chiefs last year but he was a healthy scratch as that team won a championship. The Buccaneers do not have the talent at the RB position that the Chiefs do. McCoy is going to compete with guys like Ronald Jones and rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn for playing time in 2020.

Buccaneers | Tom Brady well ahead of curve    Wed Jul 29, 09:33 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is 'way ahead of the curve,' according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'He's a very bright guy - the terminology was the big thing,' Arians said. 'As we now get together starting tomorrow, we'll start to collaborate a little bit more. So yeah, I think he's in a great spot right now as far as that goes.'

Footballguys view: The Buccaneers should be able to get off to a hot start with Brady leading the way. Arians has a scheme that gets downfield aggressively and Brady, while lacking a rocket arm, is one of the best deep-ball passers in the league. The combination of Arians/Brady should be fruitful in terms of wins in 2020.

Buccaneers | Seven rookies finalize with Tampa Bay    Tue Jul 28, 06:24 PM

Updating previous stories, Tampa Bay Buccaneers seventh-round pick RB Raymond Calais, sixth-round pick DT Khalil Davis, fifth-round pick WR Tyler Johnson, seventh-round pick LB Chapelle Russell, third-round pick RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn, second-round pick DB Antoine Winfield Jr. and first-round pick OT Tristan Wirfs signed four-year rookie contracts Tuesday, July 28. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Footballguys view: Vaughn could push for the starting job if he can get healthy (currently on the COVID-19 list) and look better than Ronald Jones. Johnson was incredibly productive in college and will be working for the no.3 or no.4 spot on the depth chart behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Buccaneers | Ke'Shawn Vaughn placed on COVID list    Mon Jul 27, 06:00 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn (illness) was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, July 27.

Footballguys view: Vaughn is now going to have to quarantine and receive medical clearance before he can begin practicing. The rookie is a hard-charging running back who will compete with Ronald Jones for the top spot on the depth chart.

Buccaneers | Two draft picks reach agreements    Wed Jul 22, 07:18 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round draft choice S Antoine Winfield Jr. and seventh-round draft choice LB Chapelle Russell agreed to terms on four-year contracts with the Buccaneers Wednesday, July 22. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Winfield was incredibly productive in college at Minnesota, especially last year when he posted a whopping seven interceptions. He plays with disciplined eyes and is rarely out of position. His high intelligence and competitive nature help him overcome some physical limitations as Winfield is not the biggest or the fastest guy.

  Buccaneers | Four-year contract for Ke'Shawn Vaughn    Wed Jul 22, 07:16 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers third-round draft choice RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Wednesday, July 22. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Vaughn is a three-down running back who is always looking for the big play. He's got the ability to score from anywhere on the field but sometimes will dance too much looking for the big play rather than just take what a defense gives him. Vaughn will compete in training camp for the starting job with Ronald Jones.

Buccaneers | Tristan Wirfs agrees to contract    Wed Jul 22, 06:36 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round draft choice OT Tristan Wirfs agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Wednesday, July 22, worth $16.23 million.

Buccaneers | Raymond Calais signs    Tue Jul 21, 04:09 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers seventh-round pick RB Raymond Calais signed his four-year rookie contract Tuesday, July 21. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Calais has a ton of burst with the ball in his hands. He's smaller but incredibly explosive and has home-run ability when he gets a gap as a runner. Calais is not a receiving threat and will need to prove that's in his toolbox after only catching 17 passes in four seasons at Louisiana.

Buccaneers | Khalil Davis agrees to deal    Mon Jul 20, 04:24 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers sixth-round draft choice DT Khalil Davis agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Monday, July 20. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Buccaneers | Tyler Johnson signs rookie deal    Mon Jul 20, 04:21 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers fifth-round draft choice WR Tyler Johnson signed a four-year contract with the Buccaneers Monday, July 20. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Johnson is a classic NFL slot receiver, but Chris Godwin was outstanding in that role last and the Bucs might not use a slot receiver as much with Rob Gronkowski and a four deep tight end group. Johnson will likely be one of those receivers who is much more productive in college than the pros.

Buccaneers | Chris Godwin delivered on deep balls    Sat Jul 18, 09:40 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin caught 12 of his 19 targets on passes that traveled 20-plus yards through the air last year, the best rate among players with at least 15 such targets.

Footballguys view: Godwin might not be getting as many downfield targets from Tom Brady as he got from Jameis Winston, but if he remains the slot - if the Buccaneers don't adopt more two tight end sets with Rob Gronkowski in the fold - then he should still be a 100 catch receiver and justify his second round ADP.

Buccaneers | Ronald Jones has better hands    Thu Jul 16, 07:36 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones said he has been working on his hands this offseason in order to contribute more in the passing game in 2020. 'My hands are better,' Jones said 'Just catching more passes, every day. Like 300 a day on the JUGS (machine), and I've been working out here with high school and college quarterbacks and working with (Tom) Brady, so I've caught every kind of ball you can imagine. I'm ready for that challenge.'

Footballguys view: Rarely do stories of backs adding weight in the offseason have happy endings, but at least we know he has been taking conditioning and building skills seriously. He should get the first opportunity to lead the Bucs backfield in touches.

Buccaneers | Shaquil Barrett officially under tag    Thu Jul 16, 05:12 PM

Updating a previous story, Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Shaquil Barrett officially signed his franchise tag tender Thursday, July 16.

Footballguys view: Barrett is still working on a grievance to be paid as a defensive end instead of outside linebacker but otherwise it sounds like the relationship between him and the team is still very good and he would definitely be in strong consideration to get a long term deal next year if he plays anywhere near the level he did last year.

Buccaneers | Ronald Jones adds weight    Thu Jul 16, 02:32 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones said he has bulked up to 225 pounds this offseason.

Footballguys view: The cases of this making a running back better are few and far between, but at least it's a sign that Jones has been taking his conditioning seriously during this unique offseason. Jones is likely to be the starter according to Mark Cook from the trusted Pewter Report and should be the first Bucs running back off of the board in redraft leagues.

Buccaneers | Shaquil Barrett expected to sign tender    Tue Jul 14, 02:01 PM

Updating an ongoing story, Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Shaquil Barrett told NFL Network he intends to sign his franchise tender Tuesday, July 14. The two sides haven't made much progress toward a long-term deal.

Footballguys view: Barrett had already said he understood that the nature of these times made an extension more difficult. The Bucs have kept the defensive line together in an attempt to maximize the Super Bowl window with Tom Brady and Barrett is a big part of that.

Buccaneers | Uncertain future for Kendell Beckwith     Wed Jul 8, 10:39 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Kendell Beckwith (ankle) was activated from the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list in February, but he is not a lock to make the 53-man roster in 2020.

Footballguys view: Beckwith has missed the last two seasons because of a fractured ankle suffered in a car accident. Last year Jenna Laine of ESPN tweeted that she believed he was "likely done with football", but Beckwith's activation opens the door to him continuing his football career after a promising rookie season in 2017.

Buccaneers | Jack Cichy to play limited role    Wed Jul 8, 10:30 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Jack Cichy (elbow) is expected to be play primarily on special teams in 2020 after missing most of last season with an elbow injury.

Footballguys view: Cichy was a second-day pick on tape, but he had trouble staying healthy and ended up falling to the 202nd pick in 2018. Cichy has suffered a torn pec in 2016, ACL tears in 2017 and 2018, and an elbow dislocation last year. If he can ever stay on the field for a sustained period, he could end up with playing time on defense.

Buccaneers | Chris Godwin made the most of slot work    Thu Jul 2, 09:42 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin accumulated 838 receiving yards out of the slot in 2019 - the second-highest total in the league behind Cooper Kupp (853) - according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: Godwin may in the slot less often with the addition of Rob Gronkowski and more two tight end sets this year, but he is still a WR1 and second-round pick in most fantasy drafts.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay not interested in Antonio Brown    Tue Jun 30, 03:08 PM

Free-agent WR Antonio Brown (Patriots) is not drawing any interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to sources Tuesday, June 30.

Footballguys view: Many were assuming that with QB Tom Brady in Tampa then the team would consider adding Brown. That doesn't seem to be the case at this time. There seems to be interest in Brown around the league but we'll see what the league decides about his pending legal situations. Brown is likely to land with a new team and get another (final?) chance in the NFL sometime before training camp.

Buccaneers | Contested catches no problem for Chris Godwin    Sun Jun 28, 07:02 PM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin has hauled in 58.8 percent of his contested catch opportunities since entering the league, according to Pro Football Focus. That mark ranks second in the league since 2016.

Footballguys view: Godwin was able to use his size and leaping ability to get passes. We're excited to see what he can do with Tom Brady this season.
