Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) has been cleared to all practice drills and will participate in team drills during practice, according to head coach Zac Taylor.

Footballguys view: Burrow is good to go in practice. However, the Bengals are wisely shutting him down in the preseason. We won't see Burrow in game action until the Bengals open their season in Week 1.

Bengals | Joe Burrow likely to chill until opener    Mon Jul 26, 12:21 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) isn't likely to play until the start of the season as a precaution, according to team president Mike Brown.

Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Burrow is not even a year from when he injured his knee as a rookie in 2020. The Bengals are wise to basically shut him down until the start of the regular season. He tore his MCL and ACL back in Week 11 of the 2020 season but says that his knee is 100 percent for training camp. Burrow will be out there working in camp, but he's going to be absent during the preseason games.

Bengals | Joe Burrow avoids injured lists    Sun Jul 25, 02:02 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) was not placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list or the Active/Non-Football Injury list before the start of training camp.

Footballguys view: This isn't a big surprise based on Burrow's participation in OTAs, but still great news for the Bengals, who should have an improved offense with the addition of Ja'Marr Chase to the wide receiver group and Riley Reiff and Jackson Carman on the offensive line.

Bengals | Sam Hubbard receives extension    Sun Jul 25, 01:54 PM

Cincinnati Bengals DE Sam Hubbard agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the Bengals Sunday, July 25, worth $40 million, according to sources.

Footballguys view: 10 million per year is very reasonable for an above average end entering his prime. Between Hubbard and free agent signing Trey Hendrickson, the Bengals are set at defensive end. Today has been a good day to be a Bengals fan.

Bengals | 50 Receptions Realistic for Uzomah?     Sun Jul 11, 02:32 PM

Jay Morrison, from The Athletic, reports Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said 50 receptions for TE C.J. Uzomah is realistic this season.

Footballguys view: Uzomah was getting open for QB Joe Burrow last year, collecting 11 targets in just two games. However, those two games were all he participated in due to an Achilles' injury that cut his season short. Uzomah will compete with Drew Sample for the starting TE job this year and is a late-round sleeper (or waiver wire speed dial guy) for Fantasy GMs if he wins the job.

Bengals | Big leap ahead for Joe Mixon?    Sat Jul 3, 12:28 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon is in line to receive more than 300 touches (with more targets in the passing game) in 2021 for the second time in five pro seasons, and 'the stage is set for a potential leap into The Superstar Club,' in the opinion of NFL.com analyst Dan Hanzus.

Footballguys view: There have been plenty of reports about a larger role for Mixon in 2021. If he stays healthy, Mixon could be an RB1 for your fantasy team. Samaje Perine will get some work as a backup and there's a chance rookie Chris Evans gets on the field as a receiving back here and there. He's going off the board at RB13 (2.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Auden Tate up to speed    Wed Jun 30, 10:40 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Auden Tate (shoulder) has impressed offensive coordinator Brian Callahan during spring practices. 'He sometimes gets forgotten, but he has a really unique skill set that makes him one of the best out there in terms of contested catches,' Callahan said. 'And he's huge. As a fourth receiver, he's been good this spring.'

Footballguys view: Tate has talent but when the team selected Ja'Marr Chase in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft it pushed him to no.4 on the depth chart. We appreciate his skill set in dynasty formats but it might take a second team where Tate can really spread his wings and get more snaps/targets. The Bengals are stacked at the wide receiver position with Chase, Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins above Tate in the pecking order.

Bengals | Mixon in For Largest Workload of His Career?    Mon Jun 28, 03:59 PM

Paul Dehner, from The Athletic, speculates that Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon will see the largest workload of his career in 2021.

Footballguys view: The Bengals are setting up to give Mixon the ball early and often. With Gio Bernard gone, more of the receiving responsibilities out of the backfield will fall on Mixon, although rookie RB Chris Evans could get some looks there. Mixon is seen as a low-end RB1 by Fantasy GMs, and he is going to have the role to produce at that level this season.

Bengals | Chris Evans has OC intrigued    Sun Jun 27, 09:24 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Chris Evans has impressed offensive coordinator Brian Callahan with his receiving skills. 'He's got the most natural hands for a running back that I've ever been around,' Callahan said. 'He's so natural at catching the ball and he can track the ball down the field. A lot of times, running backs struggle down the field. He doesn't. So he could be a unique piece for us.'

Footballguys view: Evans is a good receiving option out of the backfield, and he's a hard-charging runner who wastes little motion. We'll see how he works his way into the mix behind starter Joe Mixon in 2021. Evans has talent but a suspension for the entire 2019 season held him back during his college career at Michigan. He seems like a role player at the NFL level, but we'll see if there's more with his game in training camp and the preseason.

Bengals | David DeCastro could be option    Fri Jun 25, 05:51 PM

Free-agent OG David DeCastro (Steelers) could be an option for the Cincinnati Bengals if he decides to continue his playing career, in the opinion of BengalsWire's Chris Roling.

Bengals | Tee Higgins to be busy?    Thu Jun 24, 09:40 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins is going to 'play a huge role' in the passing attack, according to offensive coordinator Brian Callahan. 'He's got every trait to be a top-level receiver in this league,' Callahan said.

Footballguys view: Higgins is going after Ja'Marr Chase, but before Tyler Boyd as no one can quite figure out how to rank the Bengals receivers, but we know all three can be productive on a week-to-week basis. Higgins has the best big play profile and he has generated a ton of buzz this offseason. If the tone doesn't change in camp, he could close the gap on Chase to be the first Bengals receiver off of the board.

Bengals | Joe Mixon poised to pile up TDs?    Sat Jun 19, 09:13 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon was on pace for 373 touches in 2020 before suffering a foot injury, and his 21 touches inside the 5-yard line in 2019 were tied for the league lead.

Footballguys view: Mixon will be in the best offense of his career this year. If he stays healthy, he'll deliver on his premium ADP, but he hasn't put together a truly elite fantasy season yet. Samaje Perine is the backup if Mixon goes down and he is available for pennies in drafts and dynasty leagues right now.

Bengals | Tee Higgins has attention of his OC    Wed Jun 16, 04:57 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins has become 'markedly more explosive' this offseason, according to offensive coordinator Brian Callahan.

Footballguys view: Higgins is getting quite a bit of praise this offseason, and we're certainly taking note. Recently, QB Joe Burrow commented how Higgins looks "completely different" than he did last year and that he's going to have a "big year." His current ADP is WR27 (6.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Bengals | Joe Burrow happy with rehab    Tue Jun 15, 06:15 PM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) said he is happy with how his knee has felt this offseason and that he is still on track for the start of the regular season.

Footballguys view: Burrow is on track for the start of the regular season. However, his availability for the preseason is unknown. We imagine that when training camp gets here Burrow will be limited and then the team will ramp up his participation through the month of August.

Bengals | Tee Higgins primed for huge season?    Tue Jun 15, 04:55 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins is going to have 'a big year' and looks 'completely different' than he did last season, according to teammate Joe Burrow.

Footballguys view: Higgins is big and can win at the catch point. He was a favorite target of Burrow last year and would have surpassed 1,000 yards if Burrow hadn't gotten hurt. We'll see if the two can pick up where they left off in 2021.

Bengals | Hakeem Adeniji to miss some time    Tue Jun 15, 01:34 PM

Bengals | Ja'Marr Chase to move around    Thu Jun 10, 10:19 PM

Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase will give the offense more versatility than it had with Arizona Cardinals WR A.J. Green, who lined up exclusively outside, according to WR Tyler Boyd. 'I think we got a lot more balance and can just call anything now,' Boyd said. 'We don't gotta worry about guys being in certain spots.'

Footballguys view: The Bengals three wide receiver offense should come to life this year, and all three could be everyweek starts because of their varied talents and skillsets. Chase should be the first one drafted because of his elite prospect profile and history with Joe Burrow.

Bengals | Joe Mixon on a snap count?    Thu Jun 10, 10:07 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon will share some third-down responsibilities this season, according to head coach Zac Taylor. 'Having Joe Mixon on the field makes us better,' Taylor said. 'At the same time, you don't need him on the field for 75 snaps a game.'

Footballguys view: Samaje Perine is the backup to Mixon and would be first in line for snaps behind him. Chris Evans, the team's sixth round pick, has some passing game chops, and that role might be Trayveon Williams best route to make the team as the third running back. UDFA Pooka Williams is dynamic with the ball in his hands, and if he makes the team as a returner, he might figure into the third down picture.

Bengals | Ja'Marr Chase signs    Wed Jun 2, 12:25 PM

Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick WR Ja'Marr Chase agreed to terms on a four-year deal with an option for a fifth year. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Chase has the upside to be a Pro Bowl player one day in the NFL. He's fast, has great body control, a nose for the end zone and he's a tough player who isn't afraid of contested catches. Chase had great chemistry with QB Joe Burrow in college at LSU, and that should carry over to the NFL. He's a no.1 wide receiver and a quick learner. Chase should start Week 1 for the Bengals.

Bengals | Ja'Marr Chase picking things up quickly    Wed Jun 2, 12:22 AM

Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick WR Ja'Marr Chase has made a very positive first impression on his new team, according to comments made by head coach Zac Taylor on Tuesday, June 1.'Ja'Marr has been impressive. He picks it up really quickly. I know there's probably some new terms that are crossover from some old terms he's had that, like any young receiver, it takes a couple days to get adjusted to. But man, he gets lined up quick, he knows what to do, he's got great hands. He's everything we hoped he could be here through just the first couple of practices,' Taylor said.

Footballguys view: Chase is known as hyper competitive, so picking up things quickly is just what he's going to do. He's got speed, ball skills and a nose for the end zone which gives him plenty of fantasy upside in his first season. At this time, Chase is going off the board at WR47 (10.05) in 12-team PPR leagues. However, that should rise as we get through training camp. All it will take is a big preseason game...or even a big play in the preseason...to push Chase's draft position up higher.

Bengals | Joe Burrow working on deep throws    Mon May 31, 10:25 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) said he refined some things mechanically to help with deep throws in his rehabilitation. He also strengthened his hips to get more behind his throws. 'I just started running and throwing a few weeks ago, so standing and throwing, and focusing on the fundamentals helped,' Burrow said.

Footballguys view: Burrow is working on deep throws because the Bengals have some receivers who can flat out fly. Added to the mix this offseason was first-round pick Ja'Marr Chase, a teammate of Burrow's at LSU, and he's got the ability to take the top off the defense regularly. During two seasons with the Bayou Bengals, Chase saw 85.1 percent of his catches go for a first down or a touchdown. These two should make plenty of plays deep in 2021.

Bengals | Joe Mixon working out in full    Tue May 25, 07:02 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon (foot) is 'full-go' at team workouts, according to head coach Zac Taylor Tuesday, May 25.

Footballguys view: Mixon is a go and the team wants to lean on him more than ever in 2021. The problem is that Mixon has trouble playing a full 16-game season (he's only done it once in four seasons). The Bengals would be wise to ease the veteran into action and not ask him to do too much. That way he can be fresh for the start of the regular season and throughout the 17-game schedule.

Bengals | Joe Burrow expects to be in clear for training camp    Tue May 25, 06:56 PM

Updating a previous story, Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) said Tuesday, May 25, 'I should be full go for camp,' after doing some work on the field with a brace on his knee.

Footballguys view: That's been the plan all along. Burrow should be "full go" for camp but the Bengals will likely take it easy on their franchise quarterback. In fact, his status for the preseason remains up in the air. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Burrow miss all of the preseason so that he can be ready to rock in Week 1 of the regular season.

Bengals | Joe Burrow to do work    Tue May 25, 10:51 AM

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) arrived at Bengals organized team activities with a helmet and a brace on his knee Tuesday, May 25.

Footballguys view: Burrow is going to be limited this offseason as the team wants him to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. That means Burrow will do just a little bit in minicamp and training camp. There's a chance Burrow does not play in any of the preseason games either just to be sure. We'll know more about his preseason availability later this summer.

Bengals | Chris Evans shining as receiver    Sun May 23, 08:12 PM

Cincinnati Bengals RB Chris Evans impressed the coaching staff with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. 'Chris's trait that is different than a lot of other running backs in the league is his ability to catch the ball and he's a very natural route runner out of the backfield,' head coach Zac Taylor said. 'He can split out.'

Footballguys view: Evans could have some Rex Burkhead to his game. Like Burkhead, Evans is a strong back who can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. The Bengals say they're going to use Joe Mixon as much as possible this year, but in order to keep him fresh they should work on mixing other backs in. Samaje Perine could handle more work as a runner but perhaps Evans could get some snaps here and there in passing situations.

CIN | Auden Tate Under the Radar    Sat May 22, 03:31 PM

Jay Morrison, from The Athletic, reports Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Auden Tate could see more playing time than some think. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan used a lot of four-wide sets last year with increasing effectiveness before QB Joe Burrow went down with the knee injury.

Footballguys view: Tate has been pushed down the depth chart with the emergence of Tee Higgins and the selection of Ja'Marr Chase in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. However, he's worth keeping an eye on because of his size/wingspan and natural talent. Tate is the type of player we love monitoring in dynasty formats for these kind of reasons.
