Eagles | Jordan Howard terms    Fri Apr 16, 09:51 AM

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles RB Jordan Howard's one-year deal has a $990,000 base salary and no guaranteed money. Howard's deal is a veteran salary benefit deal that counts $850,000 against the salary cap.

Footballguys view: Howard is with the Eagles to provide veteran depth and pick up some short-yardage and goal-line situations. His role will be very limited and there's not much fantasy value there.

Eagles | Philly eyeing Deshaun Watson    Fri Apr 9, 12:45 PM

If Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson can appropriately settle his current lawsuit and legal problems, the Philadelphia Eagles would be interested in pursuing a trade, according to a a league source Friday, April 9.

Footballguys view: Many teams are going to be interested in Watson if his legal issues are cleared up. The Eagles will have to get in line with a team like the Broncos if that's the case. If they can't get Watson, the Eagles are ready to give second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts the opportunity to prove he can be a franchise guy.

Eagles | Jordan Howard returning to Philly    Wed Apr 7, 05:20 PM

Free-agent RB Jordan Howard (Eagles) is re-signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year contract, according to a source Wednesday, April 7. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Footballguys view: Howard is a big-bodied power back with a clearly-defined role. The staff is new with the Eagles, but it's not like Howard is going to be used any differently. If he makes the 53-man roster, Howard will get short-yardage work with some goal-line carries mixed in.

Eagles | Philly in contact with Terrace Marshall    Sun Apr 4, 04:01 PM

Louisiana State WR Terrace Marshall has talked with the Philadelphia Eagles during the pre-draft process.

Footballguys view: The Eagles are still looking for wide receiver help. They've passed on D.K. Metcalf and Justin Jefferson over the last couple of drafts and the guys they picked (J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Jalen Reagor) have not yet played up to their potential. Reagor has incredible ability if he stays healthy. Marshall is big and fast and has a nose for the end zone. He should be a late first-round pick.

Eagles | Kadarius Toney talks with Philly    Fri Apr 2, 07:41 PM

Florida WR Kadarius Toney said he recently met with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballguys view: Toney is a player some see as a first-round talent in the 2021 NFL draft. He was one of the best playmakers in college football last season and can hurt a defense as a receiver or runner. We see him as more of a quality no.2 receiver at the pro level.

Philadelphia Eagles exclusive rights free-agent Boston Scott signed his one-year tender offer Thursday, April 1. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Eagles | Joe Flacco contract update    Tue Mar 23, 06:30 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Joe Flacco (Jets) signed a one-year, $3.5 million guaranteed contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, March 23, according to a source. He can reportedly make up to $4 million with incentives.

Footballguys view: Flacco is your typical veteran backup at this point in his career. It's an odd choice given that super-athletic Jalen Hurts is the starter. Flacco has never been mistaken for a scrambler.

Eagles | Joe Flacco signs with Philly    Tue Mar 23, 06:16 PM

Free-agent QB Joe Flacco (Jets) signed an undisclosed contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, March 23, according to his agent.

Footballguys view: It's an interesting signing to say the least. Jalen Hurts is the starter and his game is about the opposite of what Flacco's game is. Flacco won't threaten for the starting job but in the event Hurts goes down the offense will look much different with the seasoned veteran running the show.

Free-agent RB Adrian Killins (Eagles) signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, March 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Eagles | Zach Ertz allowed to seek trade    Tue Mar 16, 05:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz has received permission to seek a trade to another team, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Reports have indicated that the Eagles have been receiving phone calls about Ertz. That means we should see him dealt in the near future. With the Patriots snaring the top tight ends available in free agency (Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry) there should be a market for Ertz.

Eagles | Philly not feeling pressure to move Zach Ertz    Tue Mar 16, 03:14 PM

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz may be growing impatient with the team dragging their feet in regards to trading him, but the Eagles are reportedly 'taking their time' and waiting for better draft pick compensation, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Footballguys view: There has been plenty of buzz about the phone ringing with teams interested in trading for Ertz. Per Garafolo, Ertz isn't looking for a new contract as part of a deal and willing to play out the final year of his deal.

Eagles | Philly does not plan to cut Zach Ertz    Sun Mar 14, 03:05 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz is a player the Eagles to not plan on releasing this offseason, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Eagles | Zach Ertz had surgery    Mon Mar 8, 01:16 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz (ankle) underwent ankle surgery after the season.

Footballguys view: The surgery makes sense because Ertz went to back-to-back-to-back Pro Bowls and then had a bad 2020 season. Teams have been calling the Eagles to see if they can trade for the veteran starter.

Eagles | Jalen Hurts the plan for '21    Mon Mar 8, 09:59 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has been prioritized this offseason by owner Jeffrey Lurie. The team isn't unanimous on Hurts as the starter, but Lurie wants the team to build around him for next season instead of creating competition.

Footballguys view: Hurts is the guy they're going to roll with in 2021. If he plays well this season, then the Eagles will continue to build around him. Hurts was successful as a runner but he's a work in progress as a passer at the pro level. We'll see how Philadelphia structures things to get the most out of their second-year quarterback.

Eagles | Kyle Pitts a fit in Philly?    Sat Mar 6, 09:22 PM

Florida TE Kyle Pitts could be targeted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.com. The Eagles used two-tight end sets a league-high 35 percent of the time last season, and McManus believes that Pitts would fill the void left by the expected departure of TE Zach Ertz.

Footballguys view: Pitts is a fit anywhere in the league. He is one of the most physically gifted tight ends to come into the draft in quite some time. Think Darren Waller when you think of Pitts, and it may not take that long for him to ramp up his game at the pro level.

Eagles | Fumbles an issue for Jalen Hurts    Wed Mar 3, 11:31 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts had nine fumbles in 2020, including six in four games as a starter.

Footballguys view: Hurts has to work on ball security as the starter. He's mobile and can hurt a defense with his legs, but he's got to understand there's pressure swirling around him as a runner or as a quarterback looking to extend the play. We're certain that's one of the biggest things he's working on this offseason.

Eagles | Dallas Goedert slowed in final weeks    Sun Feb 28, 08:35 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert averaged 3.7 receptions and 40.0 receiving yards and didn't score a touchdown in three games with QB Jalen Hurts as the starter.

Footballguys view: Hurts is the starter for now with the Eagles, and he'll need to work on building a better connection with Goedert. A playmaking tight end like Goedert can be a quarterback's best friend.

Eagles | Alshon Jeffery likely gone    Mon Feb 22, 11:35 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery is likely to be a cap casualty this offseason, in the opinion of MMQB's Peter King.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Eagles already moved on from DeSean Jackson, and now it's time for Jeffery to get dumped. They would've done it a year or two ago, but the contract Jeffery signed was great for him and bad for the team. If healthy, some team could want Jeffery around as a veteran in the room and reserve player.

Eagles | Corey Clement likely to go    Mon Feb 22, 11:16 AM

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent RB Corey Clement is not expected to re-sign with the Eagles.

Footballguys view: Clement can be a good reserve back somewhere else. He can make plays as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. The Eagles have Miles Sanders as their lead back and backup Boston Scott is good too. Without Clement on the roster, expect the Eagles to make a move for a running back ...likely in the 2021 NFL draft.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson officially released    Fri Feb 19, 04:49 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson was released Friday, Feb. 19.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The speedster can still take the top off the defense but he struggles to stay on the field due to injury. The move becomes official at the start of the new league year (March 17th) and the Eagles will be eating around $6 million in dead money.

Eagles | Jalen Hurts to have competition    Thu Feb 18, 04:46 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is the leading candidate for the starting quarterback job, but the team plans to add another quarterback to compete with Hurts during training camp.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. Hurts looked good as the starter last year for a few games, mainly sparking the offense with his legs. He needs work as a passer, mainly speeding up his decision making, and he'll work on that this offseason. A quarterback early in the draft is not out of the question for the Eagles.

  Eagles | Jalen Hurts is Philly's QB1    Thu Feb 18, 12:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is the team's projected 2021 starter with the trade of Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Footballguys view: Hurts was able to spark the team last year when he took over as the starter. He's a running quarterback who is developing as a passer...and he's a QB1 for Fantasy GMs because of that rushing ability. The Eagles might be in line to get a quarterback in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft, so Hurts is labeled the QB1 for now in Philadelphia.

Link to story

Eagles | Carson Wentz dealt to Indy    Thu Feb 18, 11:57 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, Feb. 18, in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first-round pick. If Wentz's playtime is 75 percent or better next season, the second-rounder becomes a first-round pick. It would also become a first-rounder if Wentz plays at least 70 percent and the Colts make the playoffs.

Footballguys view: The Eagles got rid of head coach Doug Pederson and many felt that was a sign of allegiance to Wentz. Instead, Wentz finds himself traded to the Colts. The Eagles have Jalen Hurts as their QB1 right now, and they could look to add another quarterback to the room at some point in the 2021 NFL draft. Hurts is mobile, but the team still needs to build a better offensive line because Wentz was under pressure early and often in 2020.
