Updating previous reports, free-agent DL Vinny Curry (Eagles) officially signed his one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Aug. 10.   Eagles | Jatavis Brown on retired list    Sun Aug 9, 04:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB Jatavis Brown was placed on the Reserve/Retired list Sunday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: There was some hope that Jim Schwartz could revive Brown's career after he mysteriously fizzled out with the Chargers following an auspicious start to his career. The Eagles are very thin at linebacker and might be looking to make a move at the position.

Eagles | Nathan Gerry off COVID list    Sun Aug 9, 01:04 PM

Philadelphia Eagles LB Nathan Gerry was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday, Aug. 9.

Footballguys view: Gerry has a chance to be an everydown linebacker for the Eagles and should be on your IDP sleeper list.

Eagles | Vinny Curry back with Philly    Fri Aug 7, 01:18 PM

Free agent DE Vinny Curry is re-signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, Aug. 7, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Curry will be a cheap source of quality snaps in the defensive line rotation who is very familiar with the coaches, scheme, and his teammates. Teams may be reluctant to spend on remaining free agents with a lower cap coming next year, so players like Curry will be inexpensive.

Eagles | Doug Pederson update    Sun Aug 2, 09:06 PM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson (illness) recently tested positive for coronavirus but is reportedly asymptomatic.

Footballguys view: Pederson will continue to lead the Eagles virtually 'as much as he can' while assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley will serve as the interim head coach in his absence.

Eagles | John Hightower could step up    Fri Jul 31, 09:05 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR John Hightower may see an increased workload following WR Marquise Goodwin's decision to opt out of the 2020 season, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: Hightower was originally seen as a 'gadget' wide receiver when he came out of Boise State. The Eagles picked him up in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft, and now Hightower may be asked to do a bit more. He wasn't overly productive against Mountain West competition, but Hightower flashed at the Combine with his quickness and speed. We'll see if the rookie can carve out more than a gadget role in 2020.

Eagles | More work for Quez Watkins?    Fri Jul 31, 09:01 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Quez Watkins will be asked to 'pick up some of the slack' after WR Marquise Goodwin's decision to opt out of the 2020 season.

Footballguys view: The Eagles moved up in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft to snare Watkins out of Southern Miss. He has incredible speed and is basically a blur on the football field. Watkins could be a sub-package deep threat for the Eagles like Goodwin was going to be in 2020.

Eagles | No constraints for Mile Sanders?    Fri Jul 31, 12:57 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders doesn't need his number of touches monitored, according to a recent statement made by running backs coach Duce Staley. 'You put him in and let him go,' Staley said.

Footballguys view: The Eagles have not added any veteran back yet, like a Devonta Freeman, so Sanders is in line to get a majority of the touches in the backfield. They've got Boston Scott as a change-of-pace back to work with Sanders in the backfield but all things are pointing to Sanders getting plenty of touches -- with some reporters speculating around 18 touches per game for Sanders. He is a RB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2020.

Eagles | Carson Wentz bulks up    Fri Jul 31, 11:15 AM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has visibly bulked up in the offseason, according to beat writer Paul Domowitch, who wrote that Wentz's biceps and chest were bigger. 'This offseason, I was really able to get after it and work out a little harder in my gym and all those things,' Wentz said. 'I haven't gained anything insane weight-wise. But I have definitely gained some weight. I feel really good with where I'm at.'

Footballguys view: Wentz is adding more body armor so he can be more durable as the season goes on. Eagles GM Howie Roseman has previously stated that he wants a more vertical passing attack in 2020. That means Wentz is going to have to stand tall in the pocket as those vertical routes develop. Having more muscle on his frame, so long as he's not too bulky, is a good thing for the young quarterback.

Eagles | Alshon Jeffery placed on PUP    Tue Jul 28, 04:10 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (foot) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: This move gives the Eagles the option of putting Jeffery on the PUP list at the beginning of the regular season. Jeffery was simply too expensive to cut but we need to see if he can look like his old self when healthy. We'll know more about his playing status as the month of August rolls through.

Eagles | Marquise Goodwin to opt out of 2020    Tue Jul 28, 02:09 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Marquise Goodwin will opt out of the 2020 NFL season, a source said Tuesday, July 28, after informing the team of his plans.

Footballguys view: Goodwin was there to give speed to the Eagles offense. Now, the team will have to turn elsewhere. They did add rookie WR Jalen Reagor in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft and he should become a primary target for QB Carson Wentz. Veteran DeSean Jackson is still there too to take the top off the defense.

Eagles | Philadelphia drops five from roster    Sun Jul 26, 05:20 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WRs Shelton Gibson and Marcus Green, DE Daeshon Hall, DT Albert Huggins and CB Tremon Smith were waived Sunday, July 26.

Footballguys view: Gibson was a fifth round pick in 2017 but didn't make the team in 2019. He was brought back for the wild card game last season was deemed expendable in the push to get to 80 players to avoid split squad sessions.

Eagles | JJ Arcega-Whiteside in a better spot?    Sat Jul 25, 10:45 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside should 'be able to focus on the X position' this season and could start if WR Alshon Jeffery (foot) is not ready for the start of the year, according to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com.

Footballguys view: Arcega-Whiteside is a really cheap post-hype sleeper who could get a starting spot by default. He also got some snaps by default last year and didn't do much with them, but keep him on your waiver wire watch list just in case. It's a good time to buy low in dynasty if you liked him coming out of Stanford.

Eagles | Khalil Tate cut    Mon Jul 20, 05:28 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Khalil Tate was waived Monday, July 20.

Footballguys view: Tate was a quarterback at the University of Arizona but he's trying to make it in the pros as a wide receiver. With NFL teams dropping their rosters from 90 to 75/80 we'll see guys like Tate not even get a chance to prove themselves -- especially with no preseason games. We'll see if Tate can latch on with another team.

Eagles | Six draft picks agrees to terms    Mon Jul 20, 04:30 PM

Philadelphia Eagles third-round draft choice LB Davion Taylor, fourth-round draft choice S K'Von Wallace, fifth-round draft choice OG Jack Driscoll, fifth-round draft choice WR John Hightower, sixth-round draft choice LB Shaun Bradley and seventh-round draft choice DE Casey Toohill agreed to terms on four-year contracts with the Eagles Monday, July 20. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Hightower will battle Marquise Goodwin and fellow draft pick Quez Watkins for playing time as a vertical threat in an offense that sorely needed one last year.

Eagles | Jalen Hurts agrees to terms    Mon Jul 20, 04:03 PM

Philadelphia Eagles second-round draft choice QB Jalen Hurts agreed to a four-year contract with the Eagles Monday, July 20, worth $6.02 million. The deal includes a $1.94 million signing bonus.

Footballguys view: Hurts might get on the field in some special package plays, but probably won't be the backup to Carson Wentz as long as Nate Sudfeld makes the roster. If Wentz gets hurt and misses significant time, it is possible that the Eagles would turn to Hurts quickly if Sudfeld is mediocre.

Eagles | Jalen Reagor terms    Mon Jul 20, 11:01 AM

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles WR Jalen Reagor agreed to a four-year, $13.3 million deal Monday, July 20. The deal includes a fifth-year option.

Footballguys view: Reagor will be behind DeSean Jackson, who is still trying to redeem himself after anti-Semitic comments got him a few steps out on the plank earlier this month. If Reagor shows his run after catch ability and deep speed in camp, he could force the Eagles to change their plan of putting him strictly at backup "Z" receiver. Jackson's durability problems probably ensure that Reagor will start sooner than later, making him one of the top rookie wide receivers to target in redraft leagues.

Eagles | Jason Peters expected to be at RG    Sun Jul 19, 03:33 PM

Philadelphia Eagles OG Jason Peters is expected to be the starting right guard this upcoming season.

Footballguys view: This is no surprise. The team is relying on the chemistry between Peters and veterans Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce on either side of him to help the transition to a new position while 2019 first round pick Andre Dillard mans Peters old left tackle spot. Matt Pryor will be a solid backup to Peters as the Eagles have acted to patch the big hole left when Brandon Brooks tore his achilles this offseason.

Link to story

Eagles | Jalen Reagor's signing expected Monday    Sat Jul 18, 12:57 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jalen Reagor is expected to take his team physical Monday, July 20, in Philadelphia, according to a source, and sign his rookie contract.

Footballguys view: Reagor had a small opening to possibly become a first day starter when DeSean Jackson's anti-Semitic comments got him into hot water, but the team is keeping Jackson and Reagor will instead work as his backup at "Z" wide receiver in camp. Jackson basically played one game last year, albeit with two scores, so Reagor could and should still have some redraft appeal this year.

Eagles | Zach Ertz a favorite target    Fri Jul 17, 09:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz leads all tight ends with 291 targets over the past two seasons.

Footballguys view: Ertz might not be targeted quite as often this year if Dallas Goedert takes another step forward and the wide receivers stay healthy and do more this year, but he is still clearly in the top four fantasy tight ends and he might hold off Mark Andrews for the #3 spot.

Eagles | Jason Peters officially signed    Fri Jul 17, 06:11 PM

Free-agent OT Jason Peters (Eagles) officially signed with the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, July 17. Official terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived TE Alex Ellis.

Eagles | Alshon Jeffery likely to land on PUP    Tue Jul 14, 03:39 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (foot) 'is almost certain to start training camp' on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com. Kempski also notes it's still possible, but unlikely, Jeffery is traded.

Footballguys view: No one is going to want to pay nearly 10 million dollars for Jeffery when it's not even certain if he can avoid the PUP list to start the season. He has also criticized Carson Wentz through media backchannels, but the team is stuck with him after they converted his 2020 salary to guaranteed money in exchange for a small pay cut last year. Jeffery could be of help in deep best ball leagues and might be a midseason waiver wire pickup but that's about it.

Eagles | Jason Peters returns to Eagles    Tue Jul 14, 10:33 AM

Free-agent OG Jason Peters (Eagles) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, July 14. The deal includes $3 million in guarantees with the potential for $6 million after incentives.

Footballguys view: Andre Dillard will stay at left tackle and the team will try Peters at right guard to replace Brandon Brooks. Matt Pryor will compete with Peters for the starting job. Peters chemistry with Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson on either side of him gives the veteran the edge.

Eagles | Philly an option for Jadeveon Clowney?    Sat Jul 11, 07:16 PM

Free-agent DE Jadeveon Clowney (Seahawks) could show interest in the Philadelphia Eagles because he wants to join a winning team, according to 710 ESPN's John Clayton.

Footballguys view: Clowney might want the Eagles, but do the Eagles want him, even at a discount from what he was looking for at the beginning of free agency? Philadelphia is Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett at defensive end and might not have enough free snaps for Clowney to make the move worth it. There isn't a clear favorite for Clowney's services and going back to Seattle is still in play.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson receives punishment    Fri Jul 10, 06:31 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson has been fined an undisclosed amount by the team for conduct detrimental to the team. The team said they intend to keep Jackson on the roster.

Footballguys view: Jackson is still worth a late pick as a high ceiling option, especially in best ball leagues. The Eagles did not release Riley Cooper after a similar incident in 2013.

Eagles | Matt Pryor may start in 2020    Fri Jul 10, 03:56 PM

Philadelphia Eagles OG Matt Pryor is considered the leading candidate for the starting right guard job this season with OG Brandon Brooks (Achilles) out for the season. Pryor is scheduled to work out with OT Lane Johnson this weekend.

Footballguys view: Larry Warford is a name to keep in mind, but the Eagles may want to see Pryor and their depth at guard before signing Warford. It's also possible that the team could bring Jason Peters back to play left tackle and kick 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard inside to guard if they don't like what they see from Pryor.

Eagles | Quez Watkins signs rookie deal    Wed Jul 8, 03:03 PM

Philadelphia Eagles sixth-round draft choice WR Quez Watkins signed a four-year contract with the Eagles Wednesday, July 8. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Watkins has speed, speed and more speed to his game. In addition to speed that can blow by defenders, Watkins has good length and does a good job of tracking deep passes over his shoulders. He's got 'late hands' and doesn't tip off defenders that a pass is coming in. Watkins is quick but could use a little more polish to his route running. He's looking to earn a spot near the end of the depth chart, but Watkins has the ability to one day be a starter in the NFL. Keep an eye on him in deep dynasty formats.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson apologizes to brass    Tue Jul 7, 06:11 PM

Updating a previous story, Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson apologized to team owner Jeff Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman Tuesday, July 7. The team told him he needs to be active to promote equality.

Footballguys view: Some thought Jackson was on the verge of being released after posting anti-Semitic messages on his Instagram. With this apology his job with the Eagles could be safe.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson's days numbered in Philly?    Tue Jul 7, 03:41 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson could be nearing the end of his time with the team for anti-Semitic comments he recently posted on one of his social media accounts. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the team's decision to keep Jackson on the roster could come down to whether or not the nature of the posts he made is a 'default' under his contract.

Footballguys view: Schefter, who also reports Jackson is guaranteed $4.8 million in salary in 2020 and has already received a $2 million option bonus, suggests the Eagles could try to figure out a way to recoup his guaranteed salary first before parting ways with the receiver. Stay tuned.

Eagles | Carson Wentz enjoying rare success early in career    Sun Jul 5, 05:46 PM

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz's 32 wins are the 15th-most by a quarterback in his first four seasons, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Reuben Frank.

Footballguys view: Wentz is enjoying success but the team would like to make another Super Bowl run. They've upgraded the weapons around Wentz this offseason, particularly at the wide receiver position, and we'll see if that helps get the team back to a deep postseason run.

Eagles | Miles Sanders in rarified air    Mon Jun 29, 09:10 PM

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders recorded 25 touches in Week 15 and again in Week 16 last season, becoming the first Eagle to do so in back-to-back games since 2014 and the first Philadelphia rookie to do so since Steve Van Buren in 1944.

Footballguys view: Sanders showed last season that he could be a feature back in the NFL. He finished 2019 as the no.16 fantasy back and should finish this season as a RB1 for Fantasy GMs. Sanders has a current ADP of RB11 (2.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson tops in deep targets    Sun Jun 21, 07:25 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson has been targeted 20 yards or more downfield 34 percent since 2015 - the highest mark in the league over that span (minimum 200 targets).

Footballguys view: That's what Jackson does. He basically teleports down the field and can get by defenders in the blink of an eye. Jackson is getting older but he's still super fast and will play a similar role for the Eagles in 2020.

Eagles | DeSean Jackson in great shape    Sun Jun 21, 05:21 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson is in 'the best shape of his life,' according to Adam Caplan of the Inside the Birds podcast.

Footballguys view: Jackson has been an excellent fantasy receiver the last two years when healthy, but last year he was basically only on the field for one game. That has been more than priced into his cost and he's certainly worth a late pick (where he has been going) in redraft leagues.

Eagles | Jalen Reagor to lead Philly WRs?    Sun Jun 21, 05:11 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jalen Reagor has done 'really well' during virtual meetings with receivers coach Aaron Moorehead, according to Adam Caplan of the Inside the Birds podcast. Caplan went so far as to predict Reagor will 'not only lead the Eagles receivers in receptions but also in snaps (in 2020).'

Footballguys view: Reagor is still going to learn behind Desean Jackson at the Z position, but if he pops in early season games, he won't have trouble becoming a core part of the Eagles pass offense. He will have enough early opportunity and upside to be worth a pick in redraft leagues.

Eagles | Dallas Goedert involved in altercation    Sat Jun 20, 07:18 PM

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert was punched during an altercation at a restaurant Friday, June 19, and was sent to the hospital as a precaution, according to a source. He did not suffer any injuries and was said to be fine after the incident.

Footballguys view: Goedert is ok, but appeared to be knocked unconsciousness, so he likely suffered a concussion in the incident.

Philadelphia Eagles OT Andre Dillard gave up a sack on 4.9 percent of his 162 passing snaps as a rookie in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Footballguys view: Dillard is set to start at left tackle this year, although the Eagles could always bring back Jason Peters to either push Dillard to swing tackle or inside to guard to replace the injured Brandon Brooks.

Eagles | Philly not ruling out Colin Kaepernick    Wed Jun 17, 12:23 PM

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson appeared Wednesday, June 17, on the 94WIP Morning Show with Angelo Cataldi and was asked about the possibility of signing free-agent QB Colin Kaepernick (49ers). 'I think it's something that if a team or even us were in a situation, we would look at all possibilities and scenarios,' Pederson said. 'The one thing you have to keep in mind is he hasn't played in a couple years. That still doesn't mean he couldn't come in and be a backup and learn your system and do those things for you. It's not out of the realm or possibility that could happen.'

Footballguys view: The Eagles have unproven players like veteran Nate Sudfeld and rookie Jalen Hurts behind starter Carson Wentz. It's good for the team to keep all options open in case they feel they need a better plan. Wentz is a fine starter but he has struggled with injuries at times during his career. The Eagles want to make another deep postseason run, and they don't want their season de-railed if Wentz gets banged up again.

Eagles | Jalen Reagor to learn from DeSean Jackson    Tue Jun 16, 04:54 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jalen Reagor will learn from veteran WR DeSean Jackson in 2020, according to head coach Doug Pederson Tuesday, June 16. 'He's going to come in and he's going to learn one position and he is going to learn from DeSean Jackson, and learn everything he can,' Pederson said. 'Obviously the playbook is extensive and we just have to see what he's taken from the offseason to training camp, and then once we see his potential and his growth, then we can use him in multiple spots.'But one of the things that all of our receivers really have the capability of doing is moving inside, whether they are an outside guy going inside or an inside guy going outside. We'll keep him at one position to start and we'll grow from there.'

Footballguys view: Reagor has plenty of speed and quickness to his game. He can thrive on deep routes over his shoulder but he can also take short passes and turn them into long gains. The rookie first-round pick from TCU should be able to pick up quite a bit from Jackson. Reagor's current ADP is WR51 (11.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Eagles | Alshon Jeffery remains a big part of offense    Tue Jun 16, 03:11 PM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (foot) is without a timetable for his full recovery from the Lisfranc injury that ended his 2019 campaign, but head coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday, June 16, Jeffery will remain a key piece of the passing game once able to take the field. 'Alshon has done extremely well this off-season with his rehab. . . . ,' Pederson said. 'I just want him to focus on his rehab and get strong, but the second part of your question is, he's a big part of our offense, and we do plan to have him in the offense at some point. But if there's a couple games there where he's not ready, then, we're not going to put him out there and just wait for him to get healthy.'

Footballguys view: Yeah, that's great and all but it sounds a bit too much like 'coach speak' here. Jeffery is recovering from lis franc surgery in mid-December. His Week 1 status is unknown. He should be a WR5 for Fantasy GMs this year which means you won't be looking to Jeffery that often, even if the coach insists that the veteran is still going to be a big part of the offense.
