Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley has asked to be released from his contract so that he can pursue other coaching opportunities. Several NFL teams have expressed interest in him, including the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. Staley is expected to speak with owner Jeffrey Lurie soon about the matter.
Footballguys view: Staley smartly sees that his future with the Eagles isn't going to lead to a promotion if it didn't after the team let Doug Pederson go. |

Updating a previous report, the Philadelphia Eagles hired Indianapolis Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon to be their new defensive coordinator Sunday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: Gannon was pivotal in the development of Kenny Moore and instant hit 2020 third-round pick Julian Blackmon, and got some good football out of Xavier Rhodes. He'll follow Nick Sirianni from the Colts to the Eagles and hopefully help a secondary that has been beleaguered at times in recent years. |

Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni on Thursday, Jan. 21, will be hired as the Philadelphia Eagles' head coach, according to sources.
Footballguys view: This is actually an exciting move for the Eagles. Sirianni has been a fast-riser in coaching circles but has done a good job working under Frank Reich with the Colts. He's never called plays in the NFL, so we'll see how the rest of Sirianni's staff takes shape with the Eagles. GM Howie Roseman makes the calls on personnel but will now work with Sirianni to get the team back on track. |

Philadelphia Eagles DB Nickell Robey-Coleman was removed from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles in regards to their head coaching vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Footballguys view: Moore has been seen as a future head coach for some time. He's on his way to being a head coach in the NFL, and at 31-years old the Eagles could get him signed as that guy. We'll see how he interviews and if the Eagles go in that direction. They need to find someone who can get QB Carson Wentz back on track and work closely with GM Howie Roseman. |

New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is scheduled to interview with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding their head coaching vacancy Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Footballguys view: Allen is looking to get a second chance as a head coach after struggling as the lead man for the Raiders years ago. He's been running one of the league's best defenses with the Saints since 2015. Even though he's got a strong resume, Eagles fans would likely see this as an underwhelming hire after the team decided to part ways with Doug Pederson. |

Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni is reportedly interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles for their head coaching vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Footballguys view: The Eagles could use a spark with this head-coaching hire and that might come from Sirianni. He worked with Colts head coach Frank Reich both in San Diego and Indianapolis and is seen as a fast-riser in coaching circles. Sirianni would be tasked with getting QB Carson Wentz back on track, and based on what he's done with a limited Philip Rivers we'd be interested to see if he could do that. |

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is believed to be 'a prime candidate' to fill the Philadelphia Eagles' head coaching vacancy, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: McDaniels could be the lead man for the Eagles, and he would get full control of the roster in a GM-like way...just like he did with the Broncos years ago. That was a decade ago when McDaniels was just too inexperienced to be a head coach. We'll see if he does a better job when given a second chance to prove himself at that position. |

Philadelphia Eagles assistant head coach and running backs coach Duce Staley will be considered one of the candidates to replace Doug Pederson as the team's new head coach, according to team owner Jeffrey Lurie.
Footballguys view: Staley has been on the Eagles coaching staff since 2011. He's been the running backs coach from 2013, and in 2018 the team added assistant head coach to his title. Staley has been loyal and has a good reputation in coaching circles. He's a proven leader of men and could be a coach the Eagles rally around. |

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was fired Monday, Jan. 11, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The relationship Pederson had with QB Carson Wentz was reportedly fractured beyond repair. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie decided to go with the quarterback and move on from Pederson. We'll see if the team can build back Wentz's confidence and get the team back into the playoff picture. Under Pederson, the Eagles went to the playoffs three times and of course it wasn't that long ago that they beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LII. The Jets are reportedly interested in Pederson as their head coach, so he should land on his feet soon enough. |

Free-agent CB Kevon Seymour (Eagles) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, Jan. 8.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz announced his resignation Thursday, Jan. 7.
Footballguys view: The Eagles are keeping head coach Doug Pederson, but now they'll have to look for a new defensive coordinator. Injuries and lack of talent caused weaknesses in the Eagles defense in 2020. |

Free-agent QB Tyree Jackson (XFL) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Jan. 7. The expectation is that the Eagles will move him to tight end.
Footballguys view: Jackson was a huge quarterback with a big arm and some athleticism. He's not much of a passer and a move to tight end would be interesting. We'll monitor this situation but only in crazy deep dynasty formats. |

Philadelphia Eagles WR Deontay Burnett, TE Hakeem Butler, S Blake Countess, DT Treyvon Hester, CB Lavert Hill, RB Elijah Holyfield, CB Jameson Houston, DE Matt Leo and DE Joe Ostman were signed to futures contract Monday, Jan. 4.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery and DL Malik Jackson agreed to restructured contracts Monday, Jan. 4. Financial terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: The duo had to take paycuts or risk getting released. No numbers are available as of right now, but reports indicate Jeffery is taking a massive cut from his $12.7 million salary. |

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is likely to remain with the team as general manager Howie Roseman said he couldn't envision the team without him.
Footballguys view: Wentz may want a trade but nobody is going to take on his contract. He is under contract through the 2024 season and carries at least $6 million in dead cap money every year until the deal runs out. The Eagles made Wentz a healthy scratch in the season finale, so the team may have to do some salary cap gymnastics to get rid of him and move forward with Jalen Hurts at quarterback. |

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts completed 7-of-20 passes for 72 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while running eight times for 34 yards and a pair of scores in Week 17 against the Washington Football Team. He was pulled in the second half, as head coach Doug Pederson chose to use QB Nate Sudfeld to finish out the game. Sudfeld lost a fumble, and was just 5-of-12 for 32 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. RB Boston Scott led the team with 65 yards on 15 runs, and he had two grabs for 14 yards. WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside had two grabs for a team-best 40 yards, TE Zach Ertz had three catches for 16 yards and WR Travis Fulgham ended up with just one catch for 15 yards.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz plans to ask for a trade during the offseason because his relationship with head coach Doug Pederson is reportedly fractured beyond repair, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Footballguys view: Wentz contract isn't an easy one to trade because it includes a lot of guaranteed money, but the Eagles would actually save a little bit of cap room if they can move him. This offseason promises to be very interesting with a strong crop of draft quarterbacks and passers like Wentz, Matthew Stafford, and Sam Darnold on the market. |

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.
Footballguys view: Reports around the league indicate this is not a big deal. The Eagles don't have anything to play for in Week 17 and might hold Sanders out. If they do, Boston Scott would get the starter's workload. Let's see if Sanders can practice a bit more on Friday. |
