Cowboys | QB endorses Ezekiel Elliott    Sun Jun 13, 08:58 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is in 'the best shape of his life,' according to QB Dak Prescott. 'When Zeke's healthy and Zeke's doing his thing, he's the best running back in the league,' Prescott said. 'It's just exciting to see him in the best shape of his life, or best shape he's been in the NFL. That's going to be special for us moving forward.'

Cowboys | Dallas adds Reggie Davis    Fri Jun 11, 05:08 PM

Free-agent WR Reggie Davis (Bears) signed with the Dallas Cowboys Friday, June 11. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived WR Stephen Guidry.

Footballguys view: Davis has bounced around the league and was on the Bears practice squad in 2020. He was with the Cowboys for parts of 2018 and 2019, spending some time on their practice squad. In college at Georgia, Davis was largely a return man but he's got 4.3 speed and can make defenders look silly in the open field. He's a long shot to make the Cowboys practice squad.

Dallas Cowboys third-round draft choice DT Osa Odighizuwa agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Cowboys Friday, June 11, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Odighizuwa isn't going to make a lot of highlight plays, but he'll be stout against the run and be able to play defensive tackle and defensive end for a young defensive line.

Cowboys | Amari Cooper could have delayed start    Wed Jun 9, 07:26 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper (ankle) could miss the start of training camp due to irritation in his right ankle and may begin on the physically unable to perform list, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Wednesday, June 9.

Footballguys view: An interesting development to watch here. Cooper could start on the PUP list for camp, but there's no indication he'd need to start on the PUP list at the beginning of the regular season. We'll have a better idea of his availability as we get closer to the start of training camp at the end of July.

Cowboys | Michael Gallup working all over offense    Wed Jun 9, 01:05 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup has 'taken a big leap forward in his play' and moving all over the formation - including the slot - according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Gallup is the forgotten man in the Cowboys wide receiver room. He should not be overlooked as the Cowboys offense can support three wide receivers. Gallup can still get plenty of work even with Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb on the depth chart in front of him. He's got a current ADP of WR51 (11.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott looking ready    Fri Jun 4, 02:39 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has had a strong spring in team workouts, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. '(He looks) great,' Moore said Friday, June 4. 'Zeke has had an awesome offseason. ...He's had total command of the whole thing. ...Fast, crisp. In and out of things. He looks really good, and we're excited.'

Footballguys view: The Cowboys offense is stacked and should be one of the most high-powered units in the league. Elliott's presence helps set up QB Dak Prescott and the passing attack, and he's in line for another large workload. He's coming off a down year (with Prescott out last year defenses could key on him) and is looking to bounce back in 2021. Elliott has a current ADP of RB7 (1.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Three linemen limited at practice    Thu Jun 3, 03:21 PM

Cowboys | Dak Prescott limited Thursday    Thu Jun 3, 03:16 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (ankle) did not participate in team drills during practice Thursday, June 3, but did take part in 11-on-7 drills.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are going to take it easy on Prescott during the offseason. When training camp rolls around, expect Prescott to be a full participant.

Cowboys | Tony Pollard getting WR reps    Thu Jun 3, 01:13 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Pollard has been getting reps at wide receiver during the team's OTAs, head coach Mike McCarhy said Thursday, June 3.

Footballguys view: Pollard can play both positions although he's listed as a running back. He has had 60 targets over the last two years playing as a reserve behind Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys are absolutely stacked at the wide receiver position, so we'll see Pollard try to mix into the backfield and perhaps in the slot sometimes.

Cowboys | Blake Jarwin optimistic about camp    Wed Jun 2, 03:06 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin (knee) did not participate fully in practice during organized team activities last week, but he anticipates being 'ready to roll' on the first day of training camp.

Footballguys view: He's been doing some drills in OTAs but is limited. Jarwin was supposed to be a sleeper tight end in 2020 but hurt his knee in Week 1 and missed the rest of the year. Now, Jarwin will compete with Dalton Schultz to create a pecking order at the position.

Cowboys | Blake Jarwin able to practice    Wed May 26, 10:02 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin (knee) was able to participate in some drills before returning to rehab work during OTAs Tuesday, May 25.

Footballguys view: Jarwin looked like he was going to be a breakout player in 2020 but was hurt in the first game and missed the rest of the season. Now, Jarwin will have to compete with Dalton Schultz to create a pecking order at the tight end position. He's getting drafted at TE24 (14.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Garrett Gilbert still in line for backup work    Wed May 26, 07:57 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Garrett Gilbert remains No. 2 on the team's offseason quarterback depth chart even with the Cowboys bringing in a couple of veteran QBs for recent visits. He said recently being named QB Dak Prescott's backup is his target this offseason. 'Obviously, yes that is my goal, to win the No. 2 job here,' Gilbert said, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. '... I think the best way to go about that is by just worrying about the things I can control, worry about having a good practice, worry about getting my feet right, worry about the things that are going to help me get better.'

Footballguys view: Gilbert wouldn't be an exciting starter if he's thrust into the lineup. Prescott is back from the injury that knocked him out last year and he's ready to set the league on fire through the air. If Gilbert has to play it would be a huge downgrade for all Cowboys skill position players.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott on the field Monday    Mon May 24, 05:39 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (ankle) participated in the team's workout Monday, May 24.

Footballguys view: Prescott is ready to pick up where he left off last year before the injury. He was setting the league on fire and has great weapons around him on the Cowboys offense. Prescott has a current ADP of QB5 (5.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Johnnie Dixon joins Dallas    Mon May 24, 01:16 PM

Free-agent WR Johnnie Dixon (Cardinals) signed with the Dallas Cowboys Monday, May 24. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Dixon was a UDFA out of Ohio State in 2019 and has spent time with the Texans and the Cardinals. He showed speed, special teams ability as a return man and a nose for the end zone in college. The Cowboys are stacked with talent at the wide receiver position, so Dixon is a long shot to make the 53-man roster.

Cowboys | No contract for Brett Hundley    Fri May 21, 04:43 PM

Free-agent QB Brett Hundley (Cardinals) will not be signing with the Dallas Cowboys at this point.

Cowboys | Brett Hundley worked out Friday    Fri May 21, 04:21 PM

Free-agent QB Brett Hundley (Cardinals) worked out for the Dallas Cowboys Friday, May 21, and reportedly performed well during the workout, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are updating their emergency list here. Hundley is athletic and has a strong arm but he hasn't been able to latch on anywhere after the Packers made him a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Cowboys | Two picks agree to terms    Thu May 20, 03:46 PM

Dallas Cowboys fourth-round draft choices LB Jabril Cox and OT Josh Ball agreed to four-year contracts with the Cowboys Thursday, May 20. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Cox fell further than expected in the draft. He's an excellent coverage linebacker and could push Jaylon Smith for a starting spot as soon as next year. Ball is a talented but risky pick who will become more important if La'el Collins and Tyron Smith can't stay healthy again this year.

Cowboys | Dallas to take a look at Brett Hundley    Tue May 18, 11:23 PM

Free-agent QB Brett Hundley (Cardinals) is scheduled to visit with the Dallas Cowboys at some point this week, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Hundley has bounced around the league but he's an athletic quarterback with a big arm. The Cowboys could bring him in as a camp arm to see if he can impress enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. Behind Dak Prescott, Dallas currently has Garrett Gilbert, Ben DiNucci and Cooper Rush.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott expected for training camp    Sat May 15, 06:36 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (ankle) is expected to be a full participant at training camp, according to head coach Mike McCarthy Saturday, May 15. 'Yeah. I have no reason not to think that,' McCarthy said.

Footballguys view: Some good news here. Prescott was setting the league on fire last year before his ankle injury. At full strength, this offense has the design and the weapons to be one of the most high-powered units in the NFL. Prescott's ability as a passer has grown and he's still a threat to pull the ball down and run - giving him further fantasy value. Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board at QB5 (5.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Four picks agree to terms    Thu May 13, 09:26 PM

Dallas Cowboys fifth-round draft choice WR Simi Fehoko, sixth-round draft choice DT Quinton Bohanna, sixth-round draft choice S Israel Mukuamu and seventh-round draft choice OG Matt Farniok agreed to terms on four-year contracts with the Cowboys Thursday, May 13, according to sources. Financia terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Fehoko is a downfield threat as evidenced by his school record 23.6 yards per catch in 2019. Over 77 percent of his passes went for a first down or a touchdown during his college career at Stanford. Fehoko can run by defenders and is physical at the catch point. We'll watch him in dynasty formats in that high-powered Cowboys offense.

Cowboys | Dallas to take a look at J.T. Barrett    Wed May 12, 03:54 PM

Free-agent QB J.T. Barrett (Steelers) is expected to try out for the Dallas Cowboys during the team's rookie minicamp this weekend, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Footballguys view: Barrett has athleticism and a strong arm as a passer. His accuracy and decision making have kept him from playing up to his potential. At this point, Barrett is a long-shot to make any roster but the Cowboys will give him a look.

Cowboys | Brady Davis getting a look with Dallas    Tue May 11, 06:09 PM

Undrafted free-agent QB Brady Davis (Illinois State) is visiting the Dallas Cowboys for a tryout at rookie minicamp, according to his agents Tuesday, May 11.

Footballguys view: Davis hurt his knee in the last game of the 2019 season and then the 2020 season was cancelled. He's an erratic passer but he does bring athleticism to the field and a rocket arm. He is a long shot to make it past the tryout.

Cowboys | Jeff Driskel not an option yet    Fri May 7, 05:34 PM

Free-agent QB Jeff Driskel (Broncos) will not be signed by the Dallas Cowboys at this point, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys are just updating their emergency list. They may sign Driskel at some point this offseason to be a camp arm and to compete for a backup job. Dak Prescott is their starter but behind him they don't have much experience with guys like Ben DiNucci, Garrett Gilbert and Cooper Rush.

Cowboys | Jeff Driskel visits    Fri May 7, 04:04 PM

Free-agent QB Jeff Driskel (Broncos) recently met with the Dallas Cowboys, and there is a strong chance that he signs with the team, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Driskel didn't do much with the Broncos last year. He was brought in to push Drew Lock and help teach him the ropes and Lock was regularly one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. The veteran has experience but isn't a great choice if he has to start.

Footballguys view: Lynn is a big-bodied blocker who tested well at TCU's pro day. He could perhaps be asked to do more as a receiver than he was in college (22 career receptions, 2 touchdowns). Hardy was a productive back for Tiffin in 2019, showcasing a nose for the end zone and good play speed with little wasted motion as a runner.

Cowboys | Dallas signing T.J. Vasher    Sat May 1, 08:07 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR T.J. Vasher (Texas Tech) agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys Saturday, May 1, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Vasher is a tall, lanky prospect with build-up speed. His 84-inch wingspan and vertical ability (to go along with his size) means he can play "above the rim" in the NFL. He's a long-shot prospect worth keeping tabs on in super deep dynasty formats.

Cowboys | Brandon Smith signing with Dallas    Sat May 1, 07:44 PM

Undrafted free-agent WR Brandon Smith (Iowa) agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys Saturday, May 1. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Smith has track speed that he brings to the football field. His routes need work, so that's why he fell undrafted.

Cowboys | Dallas adding Brenden Knox    Sat May 1, 06:59 PM

Undrafted free-agent RB Brenden Knox (Marshall) agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys Saturday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Knox is a slasher who loves to make quick-cutting moves as a runner - sometimes to a fault. He loves to dance but can make defenders look silly. Facing more disciplined players in the NFL, Knox is going to have to dance a little less. He provides value as a receiver out of the backfield, so Knox can play on all three downs. Keep an eye on him in super deep dynasty formats.

Cowboys | Dallas unlikely to move up    Fri Apr 23, 07:41 PM

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones is not expected to trade up in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys really want Patrick Surtain, the cornerback from Alabama. They may be able to stay put at no.10 overall and pick him up. In fact, there's a chance that a defensive player doesn't go off the board until the first eight or so picks have been taken.

Cowboys | Jerry Jones loves Kyle Pitts    Fri Apr 9, 10:19 AM

Florida TE Kyle Pitts has Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' attention as Jones is infatuated with him. The Cowboys would consider moving up from the 10th overall pick to get him, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Footballguys view: Pitts is one of the most exciting players in this class and he'd make the Cowboys offense even more high powered than it already is. He might be going off the board at no.4 overall so if Jones loves him he will likely have to move up to get him.

Cowboys | Rough year for Ezekiel Elliott    Thu Apr 8, 10:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott finished with career lows in rushing yards per game (65.3), yards per carry (4.0) and total touchdowns (eight) during the 2020 season.

Footballguys view: Elliott's numbers should be better with Dak Prescott back under center. Without Prescott, defenses could just tee off on Elliott and the Cowboys ground game. Elliott has a current ADP of RB8 (1.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.
