Cowboys | Stephen Guidry opting out    Tue Jul 28, 10:51 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR Stephen Guidry will sit out of the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Footballguys view: Guidry was an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State who signed on with the Cowboys after the draft this year. He would have been hard pressed to make the final roster, especially with the Cowboys jam-packed and super talented WR room, but Guidry might have been able to make the practice squad in 2020.

Cowboys | Three rookie sign deals    Sat Jul 25, 06:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys second-round draft choice CB Trevon Diggs, third-round draft choice DT Neville Gallimore and fourth-round draft choice C Tyler Biadasz signed four-year contracts with the Cowboys Saturday, July 25. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Diggs was one of the best cornerbacks in the 2020 NFL draft. During his college career at Alabama, Diggs was one of the most competitive players in the nation. Diggs has great size and quickness for the cornerback position, although he does need better technique. We should see him in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.

Cowboys | CeeDee Lamb agrees    Thu Jul 23, 10:31 AM

Dallas Cowboys first-round pick WR CeeDee Lamb agreed to a four-year, $14.01 million deal Thursday, July 23. The deal includes a fifth-year option.

Footballguys view: Lamb is a fantastic player and reminds many in the scouting community of DeAndre Hopkins (Cardinals) because of his athleticism, body control and ability to make crazy catches seem routine. We'll see how he works his way into the mix along with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. The Cowboys have a great trio of wide receivers, arguably the best in the league, and their offense should be one of the most high-powered units this season.

Cowboys | Ben DiNucci under contract    Mon Jul 20, 05:56 PM

Dallas Cowboys seventh-round draft choice QB Ben DiNucci agreed to terms on four-year contract with the Cowboys last week, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: DiNucci was a standout player in college at James Madison. He was a transfer from PITT who stood out as a starter due to his passing and rushing ability. DiNucci is a rough-around-the-edges prospect who is likely bound for the practice squad as a developmental prospect.

Cowboys | Bradlee Anae agrees to deal    Mon Jul 20, 05:56 PM

Dallas Cowboys fifth-round draft choice DE Bradlee Anae agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Cowboys Monday, July 20. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Anae finished his college career at Utah with the most sacks (30.0) in school history. He wins with an incredibly quick first step, although Anae is a one-speed rusher. Anae doesn't have varied moves as a pass-rusher and his snap anticipation is inconsistent (six offsides penalties in 2019). However, he has a ton of energy and plays with a high motor -- plus he has experience rushing with his hand in the dirt or standing up.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott not scared of close quarters    Sun Jul 19, 10:13 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott attempted 128 throws into tight coverage in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus. That mark was good for the third-highest total in the league, two behind second-place Andy Dalton, who was signed in free agency to back him up in 2020.

Footballguys view: Prescott should be able to unlock the value of three excellent wide receivers and a big play tight end against defenses that also have to make a point of slowing down Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys should have one of the best fantasy football offenses in the league.

Cowboys | Four competing for two OL spots    Sun Jul 19, 03:23 PM

Dallas Cowboys C Tyler Biadasz, OG Connor X. McGovern, OG Joe Looney and OG Connor Williams will be competing for the starting center and left guard job during training camp.

Footballguys view: The team lost Travis Frederick to retirement, but Biadasz was seen as better than a fifth round prospect by some draft analysts, and he's a Wisconsin product like Frederick. Williams will have to win his starting left guard with a new coaching staff including offensive line coach Joe Philbin to impress.

Cowboys | Amari Cooper delivered on the outside    Sat Jul 18, 09:54 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper ranked second in the NFL in 2019 with a 59 percent catch rate on passes of 20-plus yards, and he ranked first with 176 receiving yards on receptions within two yards of the sideline.

Footballguys view: Cooper was a monster in the first half of the year, but tailed off after the injuries piled up in the second half. If he can stay healthy, he could be a top five fantasy receiver in a Dallas pass offense that could be on the verge of becoming unstoppable.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott turning down $100 million?    Tue Jul 14, 09:50 PM

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and the team have not engaged in recent discussions, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater. Per Slater, the final offer on the table ahead of the July 15 deadline for signing franchise-tagged players to long-term deals is between $33 million and $35 million annually with over $100 million guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Prescott will play under the franchise tag this year and make a little over 31 million. This is an odd situation in that the Cowboys appear to be sold on Prescott (unlike the Kirk Cousins-Washington and Drew Brees-Chargers situations) but the two sides couldn't agree on the terms for a multi-year contract. The Cowboys are still likely to sign Prescott to a long-term deal in 2021 or have him play on another franchise tag north of 37 million.

Cowboys | Defenders got to Ezekiel Elliott late in 2019    Tue Jul 14, 08:09 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott recorded 39 carries in which he ran at least five yards before getting contacted in 2019 - the most by any running back and second in the league overall - according to Pro Football Focus.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys offensive line lost Travis Frederick to retirement but the addition of Ceedee Lamb should help keep defenses honest. Elliott is still in one of the best situations in the league and he's one of the best talents at his position. Taking him #2 overall over Saquon Barkley isn't crazy even though Barkley will go #2 in most drafts.

Cowboys | No more talks planned with Dak Prescott    Tue Jul 14, 03:06 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has no further negotiations planned with the team ahead of Wednesday, July 15's deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign a long-term contract. Prescott will play the 2020 season on the $31.4 million tag if no deal is struck.

Footballguys view: Prescott will cost about 38 million next year if the Cowboys want to tag him again. He played above expectations last year and increased his cost after the Cowboys decided to not sign him to a long-term deal before the season. They lose the opportunity to open cap room for acquisitions in a Super Bowl push, but might gain a little relief in the eventual contract if the cap stays flat next year. Recent extensions for Chris Jones, Myles Garrett, and Patrick Mahomes suggest that the Cowboys might not get a discount even if the cap stays flat in 2021.

Cowboys | Dallas not pursuing Jadeveon Clowney    Mon Jul 13, 06:03 PM

Free-agent DE Jadeveon Clowney (Seahawks) is not receiving interest from the Dallas Cowboys because of his expensive asking price, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This comes on the same day that we are hearing that the team is pessimistic about Randy Gregory being reinstated. Aldon Smith was reinstated earlier in the offseason, and the team also has 2018 fourth round pick Dorance Armstrong to help fill the void left when Robert Quinn signed with Chicago this offseason.

Cowboys | Prospects for Dak Prescott extension dimming    Sun Jul 12, 09:35 PM

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and the team are reportedly 'not close' to agreeing to a contract extension as of Sunday, July 12, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News via a source. The two sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement or Prescott will be forced to play the 2020 season under the $31.4 million franchise tag he signed recently.

Footballguys view: Prescott and his camp are likely betting on a flat cap due to revenue loss this year not affecting quarterback salary growth. The Cowboys are missing a chance to lower their cap number this year. If they try to tag Prescott next year, his price will be close to $38 million.

Cowboys | DAL still hopeful Dak Prescott will agree to extension    Sun Jul 12, 11:01 AM

The Dallas Cowboys remain optimistic that QB Dak Prescott will accept their best contract extension offer before the NFL deadline Wednesday, July 15, at 4 p.m. ET. However, multiple league sources believe that no long-term deal will be completed by the deadline because he has already signed his franchise tag tender.

Footballguys view: The whole league has been thrown into limbo with regard to contract extensions and negotiations because revenue is sure to be down this year and no one knows how the loss of cap growth will affect next year's cap and subsequent years. Prescott would likely have to take less than he would have gotten in January, but he could still get more than he would next year if the league is underestimating how much damage there will be to revenues. Also if the Cowboys sign Prescott and lower his cap number this year, they could open up room to make a move for a title run. This one is tough to predict.

Cowboys | No progress on Dak Prescott talks    Tue Jul 7, 07:36 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has not engaged in contract talks with the team since March, according to a source Monday, July 6. If a long-term extension isn't done by July 15, Prescott will play out the 2020 season under the franchise tag.

Footballguys view: Deals get done at deadlines in the NFL. That deadline is next Wednesday so we're expecting some feverish negotiations to happen over the course of the weekend. Prescott will not get a deal like Patrick Mahomes just got from the Chiefs, but the Cowboys should make him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Dallas not interested in David Njoku    Fri Jul 3, 07:28 PM

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku is not receiving any trade interest from Dallas Cowboys, according to sources.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys were rumored to have interest as they continue to put weapons around QB Dak Prescott but that doesn't seem to be the case. Njoku is now behind Austin Hooper on the depth chart and the Browns also selected Florida Atlantic TE Harrison Bryant in the 2020 NFL draft. We'll see if any team offers the Browns enough to move him.

Cowboys | Dallas may consider David Njoku    Fri Jul 3, 04:32 PM

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku could be a trade target for the Dallas Cowboys if they Browns decide to move him, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Blake Jarwin has been a favorite potential breakout tight end for many fantasy drafters this offseason, but if Njoku comes to Dallas that will lower his ceiling. It would increase the ceiling of the Cowboys offense, which is already on the rise, and give the offense another potentially lethal mode with two athletic tight ends on the field at the same time.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott hit several long passes    Thu Jul 2, 03:25 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott completed 16 passes of at least 40 yards during the 2019 season, which led the league in the category.

Footballguys view: Prescott should hit even more this year with the addition of Ceedee Lamb. Tight end Blake Jarwin is a sleeper to target in the late rounds after being one of the more explosive tight ends in the league despite playing behind new Las Vegas Raider Jason Witten in the target pecking order.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott being sued    Fri Jun 26, 11:33 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is being sued by a pool cleaner that claims Elliott's dogs attacked her in March. Elliott adamantly denied wrongdoing through his lawyer, according to TMZ.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott feeling better    Wed Jun 24, 03:07 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (illness) said he is feeling better but is not able to work out at this point. Elliott said he dealt with coughing and shortness of breath for a day or two because of COVID-19.

Footballguys view: Great news for Elliott and the Cowboys here. It was reported that he had COVID-19 about a week ago and is on the road to recovery. The NFLPA recommended that players do not work out in groups together and obviously Elliott was staying inside while getting healthy. He'll be good to go when training camp rolls around.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott on historic production pace    Tue Jun 23, 04:05 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is just the seventh quarterback ever with at least 90 touchdown passes and 20 rushing touchdowns over a four-season span. He is the first QB to accomplish the feat in his first four seasons. He has 97 career touchdown passes and 21 rushing TDs.

Footballguys view: Prescott could set a career high in passing touchdowns this year with the addition of Ceedee Lamb to the passing game. He should have the highest ADP in fantasy drafts of his career this year.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott signed lofty tag    Tue Jun 23, 10:56 AM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott signed the exclusive franchise tag, which was worth $31.4 million. The sides have until July 15 to sign a long-term deal.

Footballguys view: The team could open up enough cap room to trade for Jamal Adams and sign him to an extension if they also sign Prescott long term and lower his 2020 cap number. Prescott could also see a window to maximize his earnings if he thinks the cap will flatten or even go lower because of coronavirus effects on league revenues.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott gets job done outside red zone    Mon Jun 22, 09:26 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has thrown for 24 touchdowns outside the red zone since 2018 - the second-highest total by any quarterback in the league over that span.

Footballguys view: Prescott has gotten a huge boost from the trade for Amari Cooper and drafting of Michael Gallup. Ceedee Lamb should only help him have more long strike capabilities and Blake Jarwin was one of the best big play tight ends last year. Prescott should be one of the first five quarterbacks taken in every draft.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott officially signs tender    Mon Jun 22, 03:56 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott officially signed his one-year tender offer Monday, June 22.

Footballguys view: This gives him a fully guaranteed one-year deal worth around $31 million. The two sides still have until July 15th to come up with a long-term agreement. By signing his tender, Prescott now must show up to all mandatory work when training camp rolls around. Reports indicate that Prescott wants a four-year deal while the team wants him to sign a five-year contract. Stay tuned.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott still seeking four-year deal    Mon Jun 22, 03:32 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is still looking for a four-year contract extension, while the Cowboys would prefer to give Prescott a five-year contract, according to a source.

Footballguys view: This must be the biggest hangup in this contract situation. With the uncertain nature of the salary cap due to COVID-19, things are more complicated than ever. The Cowboys and Prescott have until mid-July to get a new long-term deal done.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott not close to long-term deal    Sun Jun 21, 03:52 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is not close to an agreement on a long-term contract with the Cowboys at this point, according to sources. Prescott does plan to sign his one-year tender.

Footballguys view: The team has until July 15 to work a deal out, but it doesn't sound like they are willing to reset the market with a blockbuster deal.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott to sign franchise tender    Sun Jun 21, 02:35 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott plans to sign his one-year tender offer by Monday, June 22, according to a source. The two sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement.

Footballguys view: With the cap possibly going down or staying level for a while, the Cowboys have a stronger position and might not reset the market with Prescott's new deal - if he signs one. Prescott could also gamble on having a good enough year to take control of the situation and basically force the Cowboys to give him the biggest contract in NFL history - that is unless Patrick Mahomes gets signed first.

Cowboys | Two will compete for No. 2 TE job    Sun Jun 21, 01:58 PM

Dallas Cowboys TEs Blake Bell and Dalton Schultz will compete for the No. 2 tight end job during training camp.

Footballguys view: Blake Jarwin will be the #1 and he should be on late-round target lists. He had a lot of big plays in a limited role behind Jason Witten last year and should benefit from facing defenses that are concerned with containing Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys stellar wide receiver trio.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott successful in no huddle    Sat Jun 20, 04:34 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott threw for 809 yards when the team was using the no-huddle offense during the 2019 season.

Footballguys view: Prescott has no worries when in the no-huddle offense. He's got great weapons around him and a superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott to hand the ball to. The team also added a potential Pro Bowl WR in rookie CeeDee Lamb with their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Expect these numbers to continue for Prescott.

Cowboys | Amari Cooper one of top deep threats    Sat Jun 13, 01:50 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper had 15 receptions on targets of 20-plus yards downfield in 2019, which tied for second in the league among pass-catchers.

Footballguys view: Cooper is going to continue as a deep threat for the Cowboys in 2020. They added even more firepower to the offense in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft when they selected WR CeeDee Lamb out of Oklahoma. Lamb and Michael Gallup will take plenty of attention away from defenses, allowing Cooper to thrive...especially in deep, one-on-one situations.

Cowboys | Michael Gallup accomplishes rare feat    Thu Jun 11, 11:46 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup became only the 70th player in league history to amass at least 1,100 receiving yards in his first and/or second NFL season in 2019.

Footballguys view: Gallup's ceiling this year is down a bit with the addition of Ceedee Lamb, but so is Amari Cooper's. The ADP spread indicates a widespread belief that Cooper will greatly outscore Gallup and Lamb, but the three could finish a lot closer than their ADP indicates in what should be one of the best pass offenses in the league.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott hurt by drops    Sat Jun 6, 12:14 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott topped all quarterbacks with 392 air yards lost on dropped passes in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus data.
