Saints | Five rookie under contract Fri May 9, 04:22 PM
New Orleans Saints fourth-round draft choice LB Danny Stutsman, fourth-round draft choice CB Quincy Riley, sixth-round draft choice RB Devin Neal, seventh-round draft choice TE Moliki Matavao and seventh-round draft choice DE Fadil Diggs signed four-year contracts with the Saints Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Neal is the type of runner who reminded some in the scouting community of Joe Mixon. He's a late-round pick, so Neal is not a given for the 53-man roster in New Orleans. However, he's got a three-down skill set and could be a starter in the league. That's why we're monitoring him in super deep dynasty formats. |
New Orleans Saints first-round draft choice OT Kelvin Banks Jr. signed a four-year contract with the Saints Friday, May 9, worth $27.73 million. The deal includes a $16.8 million signing bonus and a fifth-year option.

New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr (shoulder) reportedly wants to try to play through the shoulder injury he believes he suffered in Week 14 of last season, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater. Per Slater, Carr has met with the team doctor twice in recent weeks and did not know the shoulder was hurt before because he only resumed throwing a football a few weeks ago as he began to ramp up for offseason work.
Footballguys view: There is no timeline for a decision, but Slater reported one is expected "sooner rather than later." For those just getting up to speed on this, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported last month that Carr's shoulder ailment (on his throwing arm) could put his 2025 campaign at risk. The 34-year-old is reportedly reluctant to undergo surgery after previously having a procedure on the same arm. With Carr's status for 2025 in limbo, the Saints' QB room is currently stocked with 2023 fourth-rounder Jake Haener and 2024 fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler, who each started in Carr's place last season, along with rookie second-rounder Tyler Shough. Stay tuned. We'll be watching this one closely. |

Link to storyNew Orleans Saints TE Taysom Hill (knee) is expected to miss an extended period of time because of his knee injury, according to general manager Mickey Loomis.
Footballguys view: Hill tore his ACL in early December last year, and he's been recovering ever since. The Saints have a ton of questions marks on offense in Kellen Moore's first year as head coach. When Hill is healthy, which may be at the halfway point of the 2025 season, he'll once again bring versatility to that side of the team. |

New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough seems to be the leading candidate to be the starting quarterback in 2025 if QB Derek Carr (shoulder) is not able to play, in the opinion of SaintsWire's Luke Loffredo.
Footballguys view: The Saints are still waiting for further clarity on the shoulder injury that Carr is dealing with, and word on that will help shape the timeline for when they might think about seeing if Shough's extended time in college pays off in the pros. But as things stand now, the Footballguys stance, as stated by staffer Jason Wood, views Shough as the most likely quarterback other than Tennesse's Cam Ward to start more than 50 percent of his team's games this year. |

New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr (shoulder) said he has undergone an MRI on his injured shoulder and has been in consistent contact with team about the situation.
Footballguys view: Carr's comments came in the context of rebuffing supposed rumors that the injury was fabricated. "I have an MRI report to prove it," Carr said. "The team knows about it. We've been in constant communication. There's nothing wrong. We're figuring it out, and we're going to go forward with that. Is that OK?" The comments are Carr's first since NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the quarterback suffered a shoulder injury that could put his 2025 season in jeopardy. General manager Mickey Loomis said last week that the club was waiting for "clarity" on Carr's shoulder. With Carr's future in question, the Saints drafted 25-year-old quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. |
