Texans | Christian Kirk expected to play in Week 3 Tue Sep 16, 02:17 PM
Houston Texans WR Christian Kirk (hamstring) is expected to play in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. He has missed the first two games of the season for the Texans.
Footballguys view: The Texans sit at 0-2 with a need for offensive help and hope Kirk can provide that. Through two games, the Texans have scored only two touchdowns and rank last in points per game (14). The pass protection hasn't been great either. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has been under pressure on 39% of his dropbacks, seventh-most among starting quarterbacks, according to Next Gen Stats. The hope is that Kirk's return can help open up the offense to get Stroud going while taking attention off of Pro Bowl wideout Nico Collins. We'll be watching for more. |

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud completed 13 of 24 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown in a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Stroud added 27 yards on four rushes.
Footballguys view: As NFL.com noted, Stroud's accuracy was unquestionably an issue Monday night, but so was his lack of time in the pocket. Too often, Tampa Bay would dial up even the simplest of blitzes and earn quick pressures. It's entirely understandable that Stroud would struggle with accuracy under consistent pressure, but the real damage is done when the quarterback begins to miss throws when free from pressure. That is what happened far too often Monday night, a concerning sign for this offense even after just two weeks. We'll look for signs of improvement against the Jaguars in Week 3. |

Houston Texans WR Christian Kirk (hamstring) is not participating in practice Saturday, Sept. 13.
Footballguys view: There are two Monday night games this week, and the Texans will face the Buccaneers without Kirk in the lineup. This was initially thought to be a two-week injury, so perhaps Kirk could do more in practice next week. Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins should get more work without Kirk on the field. |

Houston Texans WR Christian Kirk did not practice Friday, Sept. 12.
Footballguys view: The Texans don't play until Monday night, but Kirk isn't going to play if he can't practice for the first two days of the week after missing the opener with a hamstring injury. Veterans Justin Watson and Xavier Hutchinson got more snaps than rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel last week with Kirk out. We'll see if the team divvies up the snaps similarly against the Bucs. |

Houston Texans TE Cade Stover (foot) will 'miss some time', according to head coach DeMeco Ryans.
Footballguys view: This report confirms previous reporting here . . . Stover, 24, had emerged as a serious factor in the Texans' offense. The second-year man caught a team-high four passes for 22 yards on four targets against the Rams. Houston had only two tight ends active for the Rams game: Stover and veteran starter Dalton Schultz. They'll look to practice squad players Harrison Bryant, acquired from Philadelphia in exchange for John Metchie III, and rookie Luke Lachey, with Stover out. |

Houston Texans TE Cade Stover (foot) suffered a broken foot during the Week 1 game and will be sidelined indefinitely, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Stover, a fourth-round draft pick last year, caught a team-high four passes for 22 yards on four targets against the Rams. He's also a highly regarded blocker. Houston had only two tight ends active for the Rams game: Stover and veteran starter Dalton Schultz, as they opened the game in a 12 personnel grouping, two tight ends and one running back, Nick Chubb. They'll look to practice squad players Harrison Bryant, acquired from Philadelphia in exchange for John Metchie III, and rookie Luke Lachey, with Stover out. |

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud completed 19-of-27 passes for 188 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams, and he rushed five times for 32 yards, and he was sacked three times.
Footballguys view: In addition to the sacks, Stroud was hit seven times and forced out of the pocket regularly. Stroud did work to battle through pressure, completing 9 of 10 passes under pressure for 102 yards. But none of his pass catchers generated more than 32 yards, and Nick Chubb struggled to move the ball on the ground. The Texans entered the year hoping the new offense would bring fresh plays. It's one game against a good Rams defense, but there is work left to do for offensive coordinator Nick Caley. Houston plays the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in Week 2. |

Houston Texans WR Christian Kirk (hamstring) is expected to miss at least Week 1 because of a strained hamstring, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Now we have more clarity on this situation. The Texans were relying on Kirk to be the no.2 receiver behind only Nico Collins. Now, they'll turn to their Iowa State rookie duo of Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. We think Noel could be the one taking over for Kirk in the slot for the Texans. |
