Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson is currently facing more than 20 civil lawsuits, but general manager Nick Caserio is refusing to get into specifics on the issue, Watson's future or the team's possible contingency plans at quarterback. 'I know (owner) Cal (McNair) ... put a letter out a few weeks ago, just relative to the organizational stance, relative to where we are. So I don't have anything to add other than it's a legal process,' Caserio said Friday, April 16 in a pre-draft news conference. 'We're respectful of the legal process and where that is. So we're focused on today. We're focused on getting ready for the offseason program and getting ready for the draft. So that's where our focus is.'
Footballguys view: The Texans will trade Watson when they can. Watson's legal proceedings need to be resolved before any team out there is going to give up likely still a significant haul for the star quarterback. We may not have any clarity on this situation any time soon, so Watson may not be dealt until before the start of the regular season. With the draft less than two weeks away it seems foolish to think he can be traded by then. This could go well into the summer. |

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson is 'very unlikely' to be traded with the legal situation swirling around him, according to sources.
Footballguys view: It's still too soon to determine whether or not Watson is going to get traded. In fact, a trade by the draft has always been somewhat unrealistic. However, a trade before the start of the regular season could still be in the mix if the legal situation is cleared up. |

Free agent QB Alex Smith (Washington) is a candidate to sign with the Houston Texans if it becomes clear that QB Deshaun Watson won't be available for the 2021 season -- due to a trade, holdout or otherwise, according to a NFL Network report Friday, April 2.
Footballguys view: The Texans already added Tyrod Taylor (free agent) and Ryan Finley (trade) this offseason. Smith could compete with Taylor if Watson is not with the team anymore. Once Watson's off-field issues are cleared up, we should see the Texans make moves to trade him away. |

Free-agent WR Chris Conley (Jaguars) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Houston Texans Monday, March 22, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Conley has speed but drops and concentration problems have plagued him as a pro. With Will Fuller moving on in free agency, the Texans needed more help at the position. Conley will be in the mix with guys like Donte Moncrief and Alex Erickson to establish a pecking order opposite/behind Brandin Cooks. |

Free-agent WR Chris Conley (Jaguars) visited the Houston Texans recently for a tryout, according to a league source.
Footballguys view: Conley still has speed to get down the field but concentration problems have plagued him over a couple of different stops in the NFL. The Texans need to find better wide receiver depth and they may think Conley fits the bill. |

Free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (Broncos) reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $3.25 million with the Houston Texans on Friday, March 19.
Footballguys view: Lindsay now joins a backfield with Mark Ingram and David Johnson. After back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Lindsay struggled in Pat Shurmur's offense with the Broncos in 2020. Now, he gets a fresh start and brings an explosive playmaking element to the position the Texans don't have. We'll see if he can win the starting job or at least a large role in what should be a RBBC for the Texans in 2021. |

QB Ryan Finley on Friday, March 19, was acquired by the Houston Texans in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. In return, the teams will swap undisclosed late-round picks in the 2021 draft. Finley was going to be released prior to the deal.
Footballguys view: Finley is a big-bodied pocket passer who should be seen as a developmental quarterback. The Texans have Tyrod Taylor as their starter if Deshaun Watson is traded, stays away from the team or is suspended. Finley will continue to develop but with a new team. |

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson has been accused of sexual assault by a massage therapist via a civil lawsuit, it was reported Thursday, March 18. The incident allegedly took place in December 2020. It is the third civil assault case filed against Watson this week.
Footballguys view: Any movement in the Watson trade talks will be held up while this is resolved. We'll be monitoring this as the Texans signed Tyrod Taylor in a possible sign that they are planning on life without Watson. |
