Packers | Another week, another TD for Josh Jacobs Fri Sep 12, 02:12 AM
Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs carried the ball 23 times for 84 yards and a touchdown against the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Jacobs was not targeted as a receiver.
Footballguys view: Jacobs has been mostly contained as a runner, and not that productive as a receiver, but you still have to feel good about his staying power because of the Packers defense's ability to keep them in run-heavy game scripts. The Packers were also missing two starting offensive linemen in a short week of rest. |

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love connected on 19 of his 31 passing attempts for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders. Love also ran three times for 12 yards.
Footballguys view: Love had one touchdown called back by a holding penalty (he also lost Jayden Reed for a good part of the season on the play after he broke his collarbone making the catch), and uncharacteristically missed an open Matthew Golden for a score on fourth down on a play that was delayed because Kingsley Enagbare ran on the field thinking the team would attempt a field goal. There was a bigger game there for Love in fantasy even though the Packers led comfortably in the second half against a 2024 playoff team for the second straight week. Love's fantasy value is growing, but the quality of the Packers defense and Josh Jacobs penchant for finishing drives could slightly cap Love's upside. In light of this result, we have to think the Giants offense is even worse than we thought because everything came so easy for the Packers in the passing game - even without Jayden Reed for a good part of the game. Love has his first true test of the season at Cleveland next week. |

Washington Commanders LB Bobby Wagner led the team with 11 tackles (three solo) in a Week 2 defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.

Washington Commanders WR Deebo Samuel collected a game-high seven receptions, 44 yards, and a touchdown versus the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. He was targeted eight times, which tied for second-most on the club.
Footballguys view: Samuel's targets are often going to come close to the line of scrimmage, so at least his catch rate against this stingy Packer defense was pretty good. Samuel's touchdown was in garbage time, but he also had a 50-yard kickoff return to show that he is still a very viable NFL weapon. His role in the backfield could increase with the injury to Austin Ekeler. |

Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin had five catches for 48 yards in a Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. McLaurin was targeted a game-high nine times.
Footballguys view: Jayden Daniels simply did not have time to look downfield and find McLaurin. The Packers are going to frustrate most, if not all, downfield passing games they face in 2025. The good news for Cleveland next week is that they don't really have a vertical passing game with Joe Flacco anyway. McLaurin has a decent chance of a ceiling game next week against the Raiders to put the memory of his hold-in and slow start in the rear view mirror. |

Washington Commanders TE Zach Ertz had six receptions (on eight targets) for 64 yards and a touchdown during the team's 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.
Footballguys view: Ertz also drew a holding penalty in the end zone to set up another score. He has still got it at 34, and Jayden Daniels needed his prowess in the short and intermediate game to move the ball in the second half. Ertz has scored in both games this year and should be in fantasy lineups against the Raiders next week. He will be a priority pickup if he's out there in short bench leagues. |

Updating an earlier report, Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler (Achilles) is believed to have suffered a ruptured Achilles' tendon during the team's Week 2 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. He will undergo imaging to confirm the injury on Friday, Sept. 12. Prior to departing, Ekeler carried the ball eight times for 17 yards to go along with two receptions for seven yards.
Footballguys view: Ekeler had been showing his signature burst and creativity from the Chargers days as a Commander even though they didn't give him a large enough role to flourish in fantasy leagues. Washington's offense will miss him more than fantasy teams. If this is it for Ekeler, he will go down as one of the best UDFA backs in NFL history, and an inspiration to small school college players and undrafted players everywhere. |

Washington Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt had four carries for 17 yards in a Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Croskey-Merritt was targeted once in the passing game but did not record a reception.
Footballguys view: The game script was terrible for the Washington running game, and this is a Packers defense that bottled up a much more robust Lions running game in Week 1. We shouldn't read too much into this as an indicator of Croskey-Merritt's prospects going forward. He could get marginally more snaps with Austin Ekeler likely gone for the season, but expect the Commanders to bring in a veteran back who can help replace Ekeler in the passing game. |
Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels completed 24 of 42 passes for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. Daniels, who took four sacks, ran seven times for 17 yards as well.
Footballguys view: One of the two touchdowns came in garbage time. The Packers have blown out two of the 2024 NFC playoff teams to begin the season, and two multi-faceted, high-powered offenses have been left without ways to move the ball consistently against the controlled chaos the Packers defense creates. Daniels did very little until the last 19 minutes of the game. It's scary to imagine what the Packers defense is going to do to the Browns next week, but Daniels should bounce back against the Raiders. |
