Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Ryan Switzer has been signed to the Reserve/Futures list on a one-year contract.
Footballguys view: Switzer is a slot receiver who can get open underneath with quickness. He can work on special teams as well. Switzer hasn't done much as he's bounced around the league for a few years. |

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson said he has been involved in talks for candidates to fill the offensive coordinator opening. 'I think it's vital, it's critical, super significant, obviously, that I'm a part of that process,' Wilson said. 'Coach and I have definitely been talking about that, (general manager John Schneider) too as well. We've had some ... great dialogue about the thought process of who we want, the leader ... the innovator, all that kind of different stuff that you want. I think that's the super critical thing, obviously at this point in my career because you spend every day with that person.'
Footballguys view: That's what smart teams do...they include their superstar quarterback in the process. Wilson should be involved in who they hire for offensive coordinator. The team can use balance to attack defenses, but the next system needs to be as Wilson-friendly as possible. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers S Antoine Winfield Jr.'s (ankle) status for the NFC Championship game likely will not be known until pregame warmups.

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman indicated in a recent interview that he is planning to play in 2021.
Footballguys view: Edelman is under contract through the 2021 season. He's got a cap number of $6.6 million and there is $2.6 million remaining in dead money. Edelman is planning to play next season, but we'll have to see if the Patriots want to bring him back at that price. |

Indianapolis Colts TE Mo Alie-Cox was one of five tight ends to average at least 2.0 yards per route on 150-plus routes during the 2020 season, joining Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, Las Vegas Raiders TE Darren Waller, San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle and Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews.
Footballguys view: There's more there with Alie-Cox if the Colts ever gave him a larger role. For the 2020 season, the Colts used a TEBC featuring Jack Doyle, Trey Burton and Alie-Cox. Burton is set to be an unrestricted free agent, so perhaps Alie-Cox will play more snaps if Burton leaves the Colts. Doyle is signed through the 2022 season. Alie-Cox is a restricted free agent in 2021. |

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent LB Eric Wilson probably will not return to the Vikings if he is being offered $9 million to $10 million per season from other teams during free agency, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Courtney Cronin.

Washington Football Team impending free-agent OG Brandon Scherff said he absolutely wants to re-sign with Washington this offseason.

Las Vegas Raiders impending free-agent WR Nelson Agholor may be too expensive for the Raiders to re-sign this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez.
Footballguys view: Agholor did a nice job for the Raiders in 2020. He finished with a career-high 896 receiving yards and tied his career best with 8 receiving touchdowns. Agholor's career stalled out with the Eagles, but he showed last year with the Raiders that he could still make plays. If the Raiders move on, Agholor has done enough to have multiple teams interested in his services. |

Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent LB Matt Judon has been looking for $20 million per season in a new contract, according to a source.

Buffalo Bills impending free-agent OT Daryl Williams may be too expensive for the Bills this offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Marcel Louis-Jacques. The Bills may consider re-signing OG Jon Feliciano and LB Matt Milano as bigger priorities than re-signing Williams.

Cincinnati Bengals OT Bobby Hart and C B.J. Finney are candidates to be released this offseason. The team would save around $5.9 million in salary cap space if they cut Hart and $3.5 million if Finney is released.

Green Bay Packers WR Allen Lazard (back, wrist) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 22, but is not on the injury report for the NFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Lazard came through in a big way for the Packers in the Divisonal Round, snaring four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. He's the no.2 receiver for the Packers behind Davante Adams and could be called upon again to do big things against an aggressive Buccaneers secondary. |

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 22, but is not on the injury report for the NFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Good news for the Packers here. They're up against a tough front seven of the Buccaneers defense, so having a battering ram like Williams would greatly help. He'll serve as a power option and sometimes receiving back behind starter Aaron Jones. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (quad) was limited in practice all week but was removed from the injury report for the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers.

Free-agent PK Matthew Wright (Steelers) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Detroit Lions on Friday, Jan. 22.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones (quad, finger) was upgraded to a full practice Friday, Jan. 22, and was removed from the injury report for the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers.
Footballguys view: Jones is going to get out there like he did in the Divisional Round but there's no word on whether or not he's going to start or if Leonard Fournette is going to get that nod. They'll both work in a RBBC against the Packers on Sunday. |
Ronald Jones II player page

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (knee) was limited in practice all week but no longer appears on the injury report for the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers.
Footballguys view: Evans has a tough time shaking free against Saints CB Marshon Lattimore. He'll have a better time this week against the Packers, but the last time these two teams played (Week 6 2020) Evans only had one catch for 10 yards. Let's see if he can do more with a trip to the Super Bowl...in Tampa...on the line. |

RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle, hip) practiced in a limited fashion again Friday, Jan. 22, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs may have their rookie first-round pick available in the AFC Championship Game. Having his speed and big-play ability on the field would greatly help the offense with a chance to go to Super Bowl LV on the line. |

Buffalo Bills WR Cole Beasley (knee) practiced in full Friday, Jan. 22, and no longer appear on the injury report practiced in full Friday for the AFC Championship game versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
Footballguys view: Beasley has not been himself this entire postseason. He won't have Marlon Humphrey covering him like he did in the Divisional Round against the Ravens, so that means he could shake free more often on his option routes. |
Cole Beasley player page

Former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia was reportedly hired by the New England Patriots to 'assist the coaching staff in a variety of roles' Friday, Jan. 22, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.
Footballguys view: Just like Josh McDaniels years ago when things failed for him as a head coach, you can always go back to the Patriots. We'll see if Patricia can rehab his career and work back to get another head coaching gig like McDaniels is on track to do. |

Former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell and Houston Texans backup quarterback Josh McCown 'continued discussions' with the Texans for their head coaching vacancy Friday, Jan. 22.

Free-agent WR Deon Cain (Steelers) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: Cain is a player we've always tracked in crazy deep dynasty formats. He's athletic and a former Clemson receiver who has bounced around the league. The Ravens are a team where he could make the 53-man roster but it seems like a pipe dream to expect Cain to do much of anything at this point in his pro career. |

Green Bay Packers DL Kingsley Keke (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 22, and has been ruled out for the NFC Championship game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. CB Kevin King (back) was added to the injury report Friday and did not practice; he is listed as questionable. LB Krys Barnes (thumb), PK Mason Crosby (shoulder), RB AJ Dillon (quad), WR Allen Lazard (wrist, back), S Will Redmond (knee), LB Za'Darius Smith (thumb), WR Equanimeous St. Brown (knee, ankle), OT Ricky Wagner (knee) and RB Jamaal Williams (ankle) were limited in practice all week but no longer appear on the injury report. LB Jason Pierre-Paul (knee, non-injury) did not practice all week but was taken off the injury report. Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs (oblique) was upgraded to a full practice Friday, Jan. 22, and was removed from the injury report for the AFC Championship game versus the Kansas City Chiefs.
Footballguys view: Diggs has been limited during the week of practice with this oblique injury for some time. He's good to go for game day and is the player the Chiefs have to concern themselves with the most in the Bills passing attack. |
Stefon Diggs player page

Buffalo Bills WR Gabriel Davis (ankle) was upgraded to a limited practice Friday, Jan. 22, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Footballguys view: Davis being banged up could be a bigger deal than some think. He's been able to catch tough passes in key situations for the Bills in the playoffs, mainly in the Wild Card Round. Davis has earned the trust of QB Josh Allen and could make a big play or two in a limited role behind Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and John Brown. |

Kansas City Chiefs LB Willie Gay (ankle) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills. RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) did not practice for a second straight day Friday, Jan. 22, and is listed as questionable. CB Bashaud Breeland (concussion, shoulder), RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle, hip), CB Rashad Fenton (foot) and WR Sammy Watkins (calf) were limited in practice all week and are also listed as questionable. QB Patrick Mahomes (concussion, toe) was also limited in practice all week but no longer appears on the injury report.

Free-agent WR Ryan Switzer (Browns) signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns on Friday, Jan. 22. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: Switzer is a slot receiver who can do work underneath with his quickness. He's bounced around the league and is not much of a fantasy factor. |

Buffalo Bills DT Vernon Butler (quad) and WR Gabriel Davis (ankle) were upgraded to a limited practice Friday, Jan. 22, and are listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs. PK Tyler Bass (hand), WR Stefon Diggs (oblique), LB Tremaine Edmunds (hamstring), DL Quinton Jefferson (ankle), DE Darryl X. Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe) on Friday, Jan. 22, announced he has cleared the league's concussion protocol and is set to start in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.
Footballguys view: That's what the Chiefs were planning on this whole time. He'll do his best against a Bills defense that will be charged with stopping him. We'll see how that toe injury impacts Mahomes and his ability to keep plays alive with his feet. |
Patrick Mahomes II player page

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (toe, concussion) remains in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Andy Reid on Friday, Jan. 22, and will be evaluated by doctors Friday afternoon.
Footballguys view: Mahomes must be cleared by an independent neurologist before getting the green light to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. Reid added Mahomes has taken the majority of snaps in practice this week. |

Former Tampa Buccaneers head coach and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is retiring from coaching, he announced Friday, Jan. 22, in a social-media post. 'After 39 seasons of coaching football, it's time to move on to the next phase of life,' Koetter said in the post.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill has been taking some reps returning punts in practice this week in case a key situation arises in the AFC Championship Game, Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub said Friday, Jan. 22. Toub added that Hill has asked to do so. 'It's just a matter of finding the right time to call his number,' Toub said.
Footballguys view: Just like Dan Fouts said in the Waterboy, 'don't hold anything back!' The Chiefs have to do whatever it takes to get back to the Super Bowl. They are the favorites over the Bills, but it could be close and that's where a player like Hill can break things open on any touch. With a trip to Super Bowl LV on the line, it only makes sense for Hill to be an option as a punt returner. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown (knee) will miss the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 24, due to a knee injury, head coach Bruce Arians said Friday.
Footballguys view: Brown was going to be a game-time decision but he's just not close enough. Without him, the Buccaneers can turn to Scotty Miller and Tyler Johnson to do more behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. |

Former Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney was named Executive Vice President of Football/Player Personnel for the Washington Football team Friday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: Hurney was in line for the GM job but gets this high-ranking title, behind new Washington GM Martin Mayhew. Both men will work with head coach Ron Rivera to strengthen the core of the Football Team. |

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald announced his retirement Friday, Jan. 22. McDonald, 30, had 181 receptions for 2,036 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career.
Footballguys view: McDonald was a second-round pick out of Rice for the 49ers in the 2013 NFL draft. He had an athletic profile but injuries and inconsistencies kept him from truly playing up to his potential as a pro. The Steelers save around $5 million in cap space with McDonald hanging up his cleats. |
