Steelers | Aaron Rodgers likely done after 2025 Tue Jun 24, 01:05 PM
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, June 24, that he is 'pretty sure (the 2025 season) is my last season.'
Footballguys view: It looks like the Aaron Rodgers retirement discourse is starting a year early. For dynasty managers rostering Rodgers, it already feels like he's on borrowed time. For redraft managers, we'll just have to reassess next year. Either way, Rodgers shouldn't be on the fantasy radar outside of superflex leagues. |

Washington Commanders RB Austin Ekeler could be a cut candidate after the team selected RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt in the seventh round. The team would gain over $3.4 million in cap savings with a $1.5 million hit in dead money by releasing Ekeler.
Footballguys view: Ekeler was decent as a pass catcher last year. And no other running back on the depth chart specializes in that role the way he does. While this would come as a bit of a surprise, there are a lot of RB-needy teams out there who would be quick to sign Ekeler. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones has built a significant lead over QB Anthony Richardson for the starting quarterback job, according to The Athletic's James Boyd.
Footballguys view: Considering Richardson has been missing time with a shoulder injury, this shouldn't come as a huge shock. Jones has his flaws, but he's at least proven capable of keeping a team afloat and providing his pass catchers with enough volume to be relevant in fantasy. Richardson has not. While Richardson would be the more exciting quarterback, Jones might be the one we want to see if we're investing in Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman, Josh Downs, and Tyler Warren. |

Cleveland Browns QB Joe Flacco is the 'best pure thrower' among the team's four quarterbacks, in the opinion of The Athletic's Zac Jackson, who adds that the veteran's 'steadiness and experience' have made him a 'valuable addition.' Flacco has 'the respect of the locker room,' per Jackson, who writes that re-signing Flacco was a smart move no matter how many games he starts for the team in 2025.
Footballguys view: Flacco has looked good over the last two years, with both the Colts and Browns. He's developed a tendency to be more of a gunslinger than he was in his younger days, raising the fantasy values of everyone around him. He's the complete opposite of Kenny Pickett, who can be careful to a fault. The outlooks for most of the pass catchers in Cleveland will be heavily skewed by who is playing quarterback, with Flacco likely being the most favorable option. |
Joe Flacco player page
Baltimore Ravens PK John Hoyland has a chance to win the kicking duties over PK Tyler Loop, in the opinion of The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec, who writes that Loop's struggles in offseason practices 'open[ed] the door' for Hoyland, and that the team 'could have a difficult decision' as to who to keep.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. is expected to 'make a jump' in his second season, according to The Athletic's Doug Haller, who notes that Harrison has bulked up and that QB Kyler Murray says that Harrison has a 'different confidence.'
Footballguys view: Despite a common notion that Harrison struggled in Year 1, 885 yards and eight touchdowns are nothing to scoff at. Harrison wasn't afforded the quick, easy routes many young receivers see. He was immediately asked to run every route in the book and often struggled to get on the same page with Kyler Murray. But the talent flashed, and a jump to superstardom in Year 2 wouldn't surprise many people. |
Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts (leg) will not work out with other NFL tight ends this week at Tight End University.
Footballguys view: Injuries have been a constant theme of Pitts' career so far. He was reported to have missed May OTAs with a muscle strain. There's no confirmation that this is the same injury, or even related. But fantasy managers would like to see some positive reports out of camp before drafting him this year. |

New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. has been working out with Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley this offseason.
Footballguys view: Tracy and Barkley share a few things in common: playing running back, being drafted by the Giants, and having off-the-charts athleticism. Tracy's biggest struggles last year involved his hands, as he often fumbled and dropped passes. Tracy will likely get first crack at the job in camp. But with rookie Cam Skattebo now in the picture, the coaching staff likely won't have the same tolerance for those mistakes. |
Philadelphia Eagles RB Will Shipley and RB AJ Dillon likely will compete for the No. 2 running back job during training camp, in the opinion of EaglesWire's Glenn Erby.
Footballguys view: Shipley didn't do much last year as Saquon Barkley handled the lion's share of the touches. Dillon played a role as backup during his entire rookie deal with the Packers. They bring vastly different skill sets to the table. And if Barkley were to miss any time, Dillon would likely assume early-down work with Shipley spelling him on passing downs. |
Free-agent CB Asante Samuel Jr. (Chargers) is receiving interest from the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Link to storyJacksonville Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby's role and playing time probably will be decided during training camp, in the opinion of JaguarsWire's Paul Bretl.
Footballguys view: No one knows how the workload will be split up between Bigsby, Travis Etienne, and rookie Bhayshul Tuten. New HC Liam Coen took a hot-hand approach last year in Tampa Bay, providing touches for Rachaad White, Bucky Irving, and Sean Tucker. While it works on the field, it's frustrating for fantasy managers. We'll hope for a clearer picture as we get deeper into camp. |

Cleveland Browns WR Diontae Johnson said he believes that QB Kenny Pickett is the leading candidate for the starting quarterback job this season.
Footballguys view: It's hard to draw too much from a comment coming from a wide receiver who just joined the team this offseason. But given Joe Flacco's age and the lack of investment in the two rookies, Pickett leading the battle makes some sense. Pickett's biggest fault so far through his NFL career has been playing too safe. If he wins the job, expectations for the pass catchers will all be tempered. |
Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) recently told Zach Goodall of 24-7 Sports that he is 'all good' for training camp next month.'I'm all good ... not really even a bump in the road. I feel like I tripped, I fell. Just got back up and hit the ground running again,' Richardson said.
Footballguys view: After going fourth overall in the 2023 Draft, expectations for Richardson were high. And while we've seen the occasional flash, struggles as a processor and frequent injuries have made it difficult to assess his play. The Colts gave Daniel Jones a hefty $14M deal this offseason, and Richardson's absence has opened the door for him to take a lead in the quarterback battle. Richardson's rushing would make him more fun in fantasy. But Jones could elevate his teammates, something we've yet to see from Richardson. |

New York Giants WR Malik Nabers was the primary reason that Russell Wilson decided to sign with the team this offseason.'I came here because of (Nabers). I really wanted to play with someone who is special like him,' Wilson told Empire Sports Media's Anthony Rivardo.
Footballguys view: As a rookie, Nabers led the NFL in target share. He can make contested catches, get behind defenses, and create after the catch. He's a do-it-all receiver whom the Giants will hope to build around for the next decade. Whether it's Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, or Jaxson Dart under center, it probably can't get much worse than what Nabers dealt with (and found success in) last year. |

Los Angeles Chargers QB Mike Williams will help improve the offense, according to QB Justin Herbert. '50-50 balls are not quite 50-50, as we've seen with Mike,' Herbert said. 'You need a play , a big-time play, he's going to go up and make it.'
Footballguys view: Despite coming up short of his early-career expectations, Williams has carved out a role as one of the league's best contested-catch receivers. Going into his age-31 season and having dealt with a slew of injuries, he might not be the player he once was. But he has the trust of Justin Herbert and could be valuable to start the season as rookie Tre Harris ramps up. |
Mike Williams player page
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Travis Hunter signed his four-year, $46.65 million fully guaranteed contract. The deal includes a $30.57 million signing and bonus a fifth-year team option.
Footballguys view: With rookie contracts being tied to draft spot, not position, we'll still have five seasons before we get to the franchise tag discourse that will assuredly follow Hunter around for the rest of his career. But after moving mountains to select Hunter second overall, Jaguars fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the official paperwork for their rookie phenom is done. |
Denver Broncos RB Audric Estime is expected to compete for the No. 3 role behind rookie RJ Harvey and veteran J.K. Dobbins, in the opinion of Broncos Wire's Jon Heath.
Footballguys view: Estime brings a different skill set to the table than Jaleel McLaughlin, likely the other back fighting for the RB3 role. Realistically, it's hard to imagine any having value behind Harvey and Dobbins. However, Estime and McLaughlin are both worth late-round draft picks, as an injury to a teammate could open the door for more opportunities. |
Chicago Bears TE Cole Kmet could be in the final season with the team considering the 2025 campaign is the final year of his contract that includes guaranteed money, in the opinion of Bears Wire's Brendan Sugrue.
Footballguys view: After spending the tenth overall pick on Colston Loveland, it was expected that Kmet's end in Chicago could be near. Head coach Ben Johnson has a penchant for two-tight end sets. And if things click this year, they might look to extend Kmet. But if Kmet hits free agency as a 27-year-old, he could follow the footsteps of many other talented tight ends who found success in their second acts with new teams. He's extremely cheap in dynasty right now and makes for a great speculative stash. |
Cole Kmet player page
Dallas Cowboys RB Javonte Williams is expected to get the first crack at being the starter, in the opinion of Cowboys Wire's Mike Crum.
Footballguys view: Williams sits alongside Miles Sanders and rookie Jaydon Blue in a crowded and ambiguous running back room in Dallas. Still just 25 years old and multiple years removed from his devastating knee injury, Williams has the highest upside of the bunch. But unless he runs away with the job, drafters could be in for a frustratingly unpredictable committee this year. |
Javonte Williams player page
Denver Broncos RB RJ Harvey is 'doing well' in the receiving role, head coach Sean Payton told reporters Sunday, June 22. 'He's doing well. We haven't given him his Joker wings or any of that yet, but he's doing well,' Payton said.
Footballguys view: One of the few flaws on Harvey's profile was his ability as a pass-blocker. And to take the vaunted role as a pass-catching back for Sean Payton, he'll need to tighten that up. But Harvey has breakaway speed that no other backs in Denver possess. The allure of his athleticism in a pass-catching role makes him a worthy rookie to target early in drafts. |
Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray's scrambling ability and ability to create off-scheduled plays need to be utilized more, according to offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. 'I think those are game-changing plays,' Petzing said. 'He's one of the few people in this league that can do it physically at a high level and create some of those. So, we want to make sure we're taking advantage of that.'
Footballguys view: After a staggering 51.2 rushing yards per game in his 2020 sophomore campaign, Murray hasn't eclipsed 38 yards per game in a season since. Before his 2022 season-ending knee injury, he was pacing for the second-most rushing yards of his career. But since the injury, the rushing volume has dipped. The difference between a fringe QB1 season and an elite finish likely hinges on Murray's willingness to run more. But the ceiling makes him an alluring player who can easily outperform his QB9 APD. |
Kyler Murray player page
Atlanta Falcons RB Tyler Allgeier posted 410 yards of his 644 rushing yards during the second half of games last season.
Footballguys view: When the Falcons want to run out the clock, they turn the keys over to Allgeier, their battering ram of a back. After rushing for 1,035 yards as a rookie, he's taken a backseat to Bijan Robinson since. But playing in a relatively soft division, Michael Penix Jr. hopes to elevate the offense. And Allgeier could be afforded more opportunities to run wild in the second half of games. While the best-case scenario is a matchup-dependent flex spot alongside Robinson, the contingent upside in case of an injury makes him a desirable target in fantasy drafts. |
Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff threw 12 interceptions during the 2024 season, which was tied for the fourth most in the NFL. He also threw 12 interceptions in the 2023 season.
Footballguys view: Running a creative offense with consistent big-play explosives doesn't come without risk. While the Lions would probably like to see those turnovers come down, 67 passing touchdowns over the last two seasons likely offset any significant concern. |
Jared Goff player page
Philadelphia Eagles WR Jahan Dotson was able to build a connection with QB Jalen Hurts during offseason workouts because WR A.J. Brown and WR DeVonta Smith missed some of the workouts.
Footballguys view: After scoring seven touchdowns in just ten games as a rookie, there were hopes that Dotson, a first-round pick, would take a big step forward in Year 2. Unfortunately, his per-game numbers and touchdown rate both dipped before the Commanders traded him to the Eagles heading into Year 3. A condensed offense leaves little left for Dotson in Philadelphia. He'd likely need an injury to DeVonta Smith or A.J. Brown to warrant any consideration in fantasy. |
Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey appears to have added some weight this offseason but still showed a terrific chemistry with Justin Herbert during offseason practices.
Footballguys view: Although McConkey had a stellar rookie season, one of his few weaknesses was yards after the catch, where his per-reception rate was below the league average. McConkey was used at every level of the field last year. If extra weight and play strength can translate to more lay-up throws that allow him to create after the catch, he might not have even scratched the surface of his potential last year. |
New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson has started contract extension talks with the Jets, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: The Jets already picked up Wilson's fifth-year option for next year. But the 24-year-old receiver has shown enough upside that the team wants to make him a part of their long-term vision. While we've yet to see an immense breakout, Wilson has provided at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three seasons in the league. Now reunited with his college quarterback, Justin Fields, he'll hope for a career year to provide him additional leverage in negotiations. |
New York Giants QB Russell Wilson is still expected to be the team's Week 1 starter but QB Jaxson Dart has shown a great deal of improvement this offseason, according to head coach Brian Daboll. In the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it seems to be a matter of 'when, not if' Dart will assume the starting role.
Footballguys view: After an 18-32-1 start to his head coaching career, it's understandable that Brian Daboll might be feeling some heat. After trading up to get Dart in Round 1 of the NFL Draft, any promise shown this year could buy him some extra job security. It's hard to know precisely when Dart will take the reins. But a bit of rushing upside and throwing the ball to Malik Nabers could make him an interesting late-season option for fantasy. |

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce recently said that he was never seriously close to retirement during the offseason and did not rule out playing beyond the 2025 season. 'I don't really think I thought about it much,' Kelce said following minicamp Wednesday, June 18. ' ... I love coming in to work every single day. It wasn't a very tough one for me. I know I'm getting older, but at the same time I still feel like I've got a lot I can prove in this league. With that being said, it really wasn't that hard of a decision for me.'
Footballguys view: This report conflicts with reports that swirled about Kelce mulling retirement after the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss. Either way, Kelce will play 2025 on the final year of his deal, hoping to rewind the clock as the Chiefs enter the season with a bit more offensive firepower than they had in 2024. |
Travis Kelce player page
Buffalo Bills WR Elijah Moore is considered 'close to a lock' to wind up on the team's 53-man roster, in the opinion of The Athletic's Joe Buscaglia.
Footballguys view: There's been a steady drumbeat for Moore since he showed up in Buffalo this spring. Although he's yet to live up to his pre-draft expectations, he's been a consistent option on the teams he's played for. And after two-year stints with the Jets and Browns, he now gets to play with the best quarterback of his career. Moore is an underrated receiver who could find himself in a larger-than-expected role. Currently being drafted as the WR97, he's probably a bit undervalued. |
Elijah Moore player page
Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Wilson said he hopes to average 13 to 15 yards per catch this upcoming season. He averaged 11.7 yards per catch in 2024.
Footballguys view: The per-game usage for Wilson remained almost identical from Year 1 to Year 2. But dips in target depth, yards after the catch, and missed tackles caused a drop in his overall production. While it's hopeful that Wilson can improve his efficiency going into Year 3, being third in the pecking order behind Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride will likely keep him a touchdown-dependent fantasy option for desperate managers. |
Michael Wilson player page
New Orleans Saints TE Foster Moreau (knee) hopes to be able to return to practice at some point during training camp.
Footballguys view: Moreau took a blow to the knee in Week 18 that required surgery and has kept him out of offseason activities since. Although the specifics of the injury are unknown now, we should get a clearer outlook on his return based on his availability at the start of training camp. |
Foster Moreau player page
New Orleans Saints TE Taysom Hill (knee) will be a candidate for the Physically Unable to Perform list if he is not ready to play when the regular season starts.
Footballguys view: After suffering structural damage to his knee late in the year, Hill, approaching his age-35 season, will have an uphill battle toward returning. If he's able to return to his former self, his hybrid role makes him a valuable fantasy tight end. But a long recovery at his age suggests that his fantasy-relevant days might be behind him. |
Taysom Hill player page
Indianapolis Colts TE Tyler Warren has been impressive with quickly he has picking things up during the offseason, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: Warren is a tough tight end who can run by or through defenders. Tight end is a tough position to acclimate to in the NFL, and sometimes it takes a couple of seasons for a player to produce at a high level. The Colts quarterback situation is a concern, no matter if it's Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson starting, and that puts a bit of a damper on the excitement around Warren. We like the rookie as a TE2 with upside in 2025. |
Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins was impressive during offseason practices and showed improvement each week, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. 'I've seen a guy who's steadily got better every single week. You've seen him make even more plays. Seeing him today, this is the most plays that he's made. In our last week of camp, to see a rookie who's come in and showing right now that he could be an impact player for us, I think it means a lot,' Ryans said.
Footballguys view: Another day, and another positive report about Higgins. His body control and 'my ball' mentality stood out on tape during his college career at Iowa State. The Texans have Nico Collins as their no.1 wide receiver, and Higgins looks to be earning the no.2 job so far. He's a depth piece for most fantasy teams to begin the 2025 season, but we could see him working his way into flex appeal as the year goes on. |
New York Jets WR Malachi Corley (undisclosed) missed some offseason practices because of an undisclosed injury and will have to find a way to catch himself up entering training camp, according to offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand.
Footballguys view: A third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Corley was a "YAC King" at Western Kentucky but only caught three passes for 16 yards (9 games, 1 start). With the turnover at head coach and general manager, Corley is missing any sort of draft pick protection that might have been afforded him with the previous regime. He's competing with guys like Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds to establish a pecking order behind Garrett Wilson. |
Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold said that he has learned a lot from offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak this offseason, even though many concepts are similar to the ones used when both of them were with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, where Kubiak had served as the passing game coordinator. Although the two offenses are not identical, having the opportunity to work with him again was one of the factors that led to Darnold signing with Seattle as a free agent.
Footballguys view: It's a Kubiak offense, and that's from the Shanahan tree (Bill Walsh if you really go back). That's the same tree that Sean McVay's offense comes from which is where Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell cut his teeth in the coaching world. Darnold is a seasoned veteran who should be able to pick up things quickly. In a Kubiak offense, the language is the most complicated thing to learn. The concepts should be quite similar to what Darnold ran in Minnesota. |

San Francisco 49ers WR Jacob Cowing's performance during organized team activities has impressed QB Brock Purdy. 'He's getting in and out of cuts and he's the first one to lead lines and show guys how routes are supposed to be run,' Purdy said. 'He's making a huge leap there.'
Footballguys view: He's standing out to his quarterback, and that's something to note this slow time of year. It's also something to keep track of when training camp and the preseason get here. Cowing had some Tyler Lockett comparisons when he came out of Arizona in 2024 as a fourth-round pick for the 49ers. He's got speed, route-running ability, and plays with a high football intelligence. In a crowded room behind WR Brandon Aiyuk, Cowing could stand out in the preseason. Stay tuned. |
Tennessee Titans RB Tyjae Spears has had a strong offseason, according to head coach Brian Callahan. 'I'm really excited to see what he can bring to us this year,' Callahan said.
Footballguys view: Spears has to compete for touches in the backfield with Tony Pollard, so let's be cautious with using 'big year' and the young runner in the same sentence. We appreciate his game, and Spears can work well as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. We also recognize how a rushing quarterback (Cam Ward) can open things up for the runners like Spears. However, the Titans offense isn't one we're investing heavily in this offseason. If he does play up to his potential, Spears is a flex play for Fantasy GMs in PPR formats. |

Las Vegas Raiders WR Dont'e Thornton Jr. has 'already become a top target' for QB Geno Smith, according to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com.
Footballguys view: Thornton can flat-out fly, and his speed allows him to take the top off the defense in a hurry. His connection with Smith is something to monitor as training camp opens up in late July. With good size as well, Thornton can be a threat to attack a defense in the red zone in addition to downfield targets. Earlier reports have suggested that Thornton is "further along than expected." |
New York Giants WR Darius Slayton has developed a 'quality connection' with QB Russell Wilson, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Slayton has 'what the heck' flex appeal for Fantasy GMs. Wilson should be the starter Week 1 for the Giants, and he may be starting the entire season if 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart isn't yet ready to take over. Let's see what this connection looks like in the preseason, but it sounds like Slayton could be a late-round flier in deeper drafts. |

The Kansas City Chiefs released TE Kevin Foelsch Friday, June 20.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers WR Roman Wilson will have a chance to prove he deserves a role in the offense during training camp and the preseason, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Wilson got injured early in training camp last year and only logged five offensive snaps for the entire season. He was a third-rounder in 2024 after being a key piece of Michigan's championship-winning team. There's reason to believe a healthy offseason can get him back on track, but he'll fight an uphill battle. The upside in an Aaron Rodgers-led offense is obvious. His ADP of WR88 makes him worth the minimal investment, especially in deeper leagues. |
Carolina Panthers TE Tommy Tremble (back) could be a candidate to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list depending on his recovery, in the opinion of PanthersWire's Anthony Rizzuti.
Footballguys view: Tremble has been a solid depth piece for the Panthers, who brought him back on a two-year deal following his rookie contract. He had back surgery at the end of May. Head coach Dave Canales said he's hopeful the veteran tight end will be rehabbing when training camp starts. |
Tommy Tremble player page
New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo (undisclosed) missed a good amount of time this offseason because of an undisclosed injury but is not believed to be dealing with anything serious.
Footballguys view: While it's good that it's believed to be nothing serious, missing valuable offseason reps can often be a tough hurdle for rookies to clear. We'll monitor Skattebo's situation when rookies report to Giants' training camp on July 15th. |
Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams is expected to be one of the starting receivers this season because of his experience with QB Justin Herbert in the past.
Footballguys view: Aside from Ladd McConkey, there's a lot of overlap among the potential WR2s in Los Angeles. Williams, Quentin Johnston, and Tre Harris are all big-bodied receivers with above-average speed. It makes sense that a familiar veteran would get the early nod as a starter. But he's far from the player he was early in his career, now four years removed from his last 1,000-yard season. The Chargers will likely hope that Harris, their second-round rookie, can climb the depth chart ahead of Williams throughout camp. |

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Brenton Strange has 'a lot of physical traits that can be a balanced tight end and do a lot of different things that this offense will ask him to do,' according to recent comments from offensive coordinator Grant Udinski.'His work ethic, first and foremost, is hopefully a leadership attribute that the guys can model and see what he does on a day-to-day basis. But from a leadership standpoint and just from a player standpoint, you see a guy with a lot of potential to just continue to grow, whether it's in the pass game or the run game. ... A guy with a lot of physical traits that can be that balanced tight end and do a lot of different things that this offense will ask him to do,' Udinski said.
Footballguys view: Strange, a former second-round pick, spent the first two years of his career buried on the depth chart behind Evan Engram. Engram missed eight games last year. Strange flashed a bit in his absence, especially in his 11-reception outing in Week 15. Despite expectations of being the Week 1 starter, he's being drafted as the TE23, leaving a lot of room to exceed his ADP. He'll likely struggle to find consistent production behind Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter. But like Cade Otton last year, he's just an injury away from what could be a significant role. |
