Titans | Gunnar Helm signs deal Sat May 10, 04:08 PM
Tennessee Titans fourth-round draft choice TE Gunnar Helm signed a four-year contract with the Titans Saturday, May 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Helm caught 19 passes at Texas over the 2022 and 2023 seasons but broke out with 60 receptions for 786 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during the 2024 campaign. Chig Okonkwo, Josh Whyle, David Martin-Robinson, and Thomas Odukoya are the other tight ends on the 90-man roster in Tennessee. |
Miami Dolphins LS Kneeland Hibbett was waived Saturday, May 10.
Link to storyNew Orleans Saints QBs Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener will compete for the starting quarterback job, head coach Kellen Moore said Saturday, May 10, following the retirement of QB Derek Carr.
Footballguys view: "We're going to let all three of these guys roll," Moore told reporters on Saturday, "and they've all earned these opportunities. We'll let Jake, Spencer, and Tyler -- all three kind of go through this process." Moore expressed confidence that, once the preseason starts, "one of these guys will rise" to the starting job. Moore said Shough did an "excellent" job in his first taste of the NFL, which consisted of a pair of seven-on-seven sessions that were "somewhat competitive" in the team's rookie minicamp. Shough and the other rookies will join the veterans in the ongoing offseason program on Monday. Asked about the possibility of adding a veteran quarterback, Moore said they'll have an "awareness" of it and be ready to add another quarterback if the opportunity presents itself. Meanwhile, Shough remains our favorite to win the job. He's QB31 on the Footballguys 2025 Projections. |

Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman received trade interest from the Dallas Cowboys before the Cowboys acquired WR George Pickens, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports the Cowboys discussions with Baltimore went nowhere, forcing the Cowboys to pivot to another AFC team in Pittsburgh. The deal was made, the Steelers were weakened, and Baltimore hung onto an ever-improving player. In a 28-25 win over Dallas last September, Bateman had three catches for 28 yards (9.3 avg) and one touchdown. It was his most impactful regular season since getting drafted by Baltimore, with career highs in receiving yards (756) and touchdowns (nine) on the second-highest catch total of his career (45) across 17 games. Bateman is a solid fantasy WR4 or WR5 that's capable of helping investors cover bye week or injury-related absences. |

Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue should be able to play early as a third-down back, according to ESPN's Matt Miller.
Footballguys view: Miller noted that Blue may be a fifth-round pick, but Dallas lacks a home run threat and strong receiving back. In the College Football Playoffs, Blue showed how impactful he can be when matched up against linebackers and safeties as a route runner. With Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders available to handle early-down, between-the-tackles work, it'll be worth watching Blue to see if he can make good on Miller's expectations. |
Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland is 'going to catch a million balls,' according to an NFL executive. 'He will be better than Sam LaPorta,' the executive said.
Footballguys view: The 6-5, 245-pound Loveland, who had 56 receptions, including five for TDs, at Michigan last season, is viewed as a key to unlocking the potential of new coach Ben Johnson's offense -- the same offense that helped Sam LaPorta thrive as a rookie when he caught 86 passes and 10 touchdowns in 2023. LaPorta finished as fantasy's TE1 that season. While Loveland sits at TE18 on the Footballguys 2025 Projections, we'll all look for signs that he might play a role in Chicago similar to LaPorta's in Detroit. |
New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr officially announced his retirement from the NFL Saturday, May 10, according to a press release from the team.
Footballguys view: Carr's retirement leaves the Saints with three quarterbacks, who have a combined record of 0-7 as NFL starters, on their roster. The holdovers from last year are 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler and 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener. When Carr missed time with injuries last season, Rattler started six games, and Haener started one. The Saints went 0-7 in those games, with Rattler and Haener averaging 5.8 yards per pass. The newcomer is second-round rookie Tyler Shough, who is 25 years old after a long college career that saw him spend three years at Oregon, three years at Texas Tech, and one year at Louisville. As Profootballtalk.com suggests, the Saints knew Carr had a significant injury to his throwing shoulder when they drafted Shough with the 40th pick overall, which indicates that they see Shough as Carr's heir apparent. We see it the same. At No. 31, Shough is the top Saints QB on the Footballguys 2025 Projections. |

Cleveland Browns second-round draft choice LB Carson Schwesinger and fourth-round draft choice Dylan Sampson signed four-year contracts with the Browns Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Both players will be expected to contribute early. Schwesinger could push to start in a linebacking corps that will likely be without Pro Bowler Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah for a still-unknown amount of time. Sampson was the second running back the Browns picked, the first being Quinshon Judkins in Round 2. Sampson may have been selected higher in another class, but the 2025 running back prospect class was deep, so he fell into the fourth round. Sampson will have to battle Jerome Ford for reps behind Judkins this season. |

Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers third-round draft choice DT Jamaree Caldwell, fourth-round draft choice LB Kyle Kennard, fifth-round draft choice WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith, fifth-round draft choice TE Oronde Gadsden II, sixth-round draft choice OG Branson Taylor, sixth-round draft choice S R.J. Mickens and seventh-round draft choice CB Trikweze Bridges signed four-year contracts with the Chargers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Orande Gadsen II is a player with a freakish athletic skill set. He's a weapon as a tight end, and Gadsen can use a blend of size and speed to make plays. Gadsen will learn behind Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin in his rookie season, but he's got the upside to one day be a starter. |
Jacksonville Jaguars third-round draft choice CB Caleb Ransaw, sixth-round draft choice S Rayuan Lane III and seventh-round draft choice RB LeQuint Allen signed four-year contracts with the Jaguars Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: We like LeQuint Allen in crazy deep dynasty formats. There's a dash of James Cook to his game, and he can make plays as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. With the future of Travis Etienne unknown, Allen is a player to monitor in training camp. |
New Orleans Saints fourth-round draft choice LB Danny Stutsman, fourth-round draft choice CB Quincy Riley, sixth-round draft choice RB Devin Neal, seventh-round draft choice TE Moliki Matavao and seventh-round draft choice DE Fadil Diggs signed four-year contracts with the Saints Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Neal is the type of runner who reminded some in the scouting community of Joe Mixon. He's a late-round pick, so Neal is not a given for the 53-man roster in New Orleans. However, he's got a three-down skill set and could be a starter in the league. That's why we're monitoring him in super deep dynasty formats. |
New Orleans Saints first-round draft choice OT Kelvin Banks Jr. signed a four-year contract with the Saints Friday, May 9, worth $27.73 million. The deal includes a $16.8 million signing bonus and a fifth-year option.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers third-round draft choice LB Nick Martin, third-round draft choice CB Upton Stout, fourth-round draft choice WR Jordan Watkins, fifth-round draft choice RB Jordan James, fifth-round draft choice S Marques Sigle, seventh-round draft choice Connor Colby and seventh-round draft choice WR Junior Bergen signed four-year contracts with the 49ers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Any running back added to the 49ers roster will attract out attention. James can turn short passes into long gains with speed and quickness. We'll watch him in camp as he works to earn a roster spot behind starting RB Christian McCaffrey. |
Free-agent OT Andre Dillard (Packers), OT Nicholas Petit-Frere (Titans) and CB Dallis Flowers (Buccaneers) signed one-year contracts with the San Francisco 49ers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed. The team also waived OG Jalen McKenzie and waived/injured CB Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson (undisclosed).

Pittsburgh Steelers third-round draft choice RB Kaleb Johnson signed a four-year contract with the Steelers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Johnson is exactly the type of runner that fits with the Steelers. He's got some Demarco Murray to his game, and Johnson can be an absolute hammer between the tackles. We'll see him work in concert with Jaylen Warren in 2025. |
Los Angeles Chargers LB Chris Collins was released Friday, May 9.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers LB Kenny Dyson was waived Friday, May 9.
Link to storyHouston Texans OG Nick Broeker was waived Friday, May 9.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers sixth-round draft choice QB Will Howard signed a four-year contract with the Steelers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Howard is a scrappy quarterback who can make pocket throws when well protected. When things go off script, Howard needs to manage his game better. The Steelers have yet to sign Aaron Rodgers to be their starter, and Howard is just a developmental guy in 2025 (and perhaps 2026) anyway. |
Pittsburgh Steelers fourth-round draft choice LB Jack Sawyer signed a four-year contract with the Steelers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts LB Zaire Franklin (ankle) recently underwent ankle surgery and likely will be sidelined until training camp, according to head coach Shane Steichen.

Link to storyNew York Giants seventh-round draft choice CB Korie Black signed a four-year contract with the Giants Friday, May 9, worth $4.304 million.
Link to storyNew York Giants seventh-round draft choice TE Thomas Fidone II signed a four-year contract with the Giants Friday, May 9, worth $4.349 million.
Footballguys view: Fidone is an interesting prospect who plays like a super-sized wide receiver. He's got the physical tools to be a threat down the seam, but he never really played up to his potential in college at Nebraska. |
New York Giants fifth-round draft choice OG Marcus Mbow signed a four-year contract with the Giants Friday, May 9, worth $4.617 million.
Link to storyWashington Commanders fourth-round draft choice WR Jaylin Lane, sixth-round draft choice LB Kain Medrano and seventh=round draft choice RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt signed four-year contracts with the Commanders Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Lane is a player who can attack all three levels of the field with speed. He is buried on the depth chart right now, but Lane's speed and moves in the open field will be intriguing enough to earn him a roster spot where he can develop. Croskey-Merritt is one of our favorite sleeper running backs in this class. He's got a three-down skill set with intent as a runner and decent receiving chops. Watch Croskey-Merritt in crazy deep dynasty leagues. |
New England Patriots third-round draft choice WR Kyle Williams, third-round draft choice C Jared Wilson, fourth-round draft choice Joshua Farmer, fifth-round draft choice LB Bradyn Swinson, sixth-round draft choice PK Andres Borregales, seventh-round draft choice OT Marcus Bryant, seventh-round draft choice CB Kobee Minor and seventh-round draft choice LS Julian Ashby signed four-year contracts with the Patriots Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Kyle Williams is a quick receiver with speed to flip the field on any catch. He'll have a chance to become a favorite target for QB Drake Maye this year. Williams begins his pro career as the no.3 receiver on the depth chart behind Stefon Diggs and DeMario Douglas. |
Indianapolis Colts OG Atonio Mafi and DT Pheldarius Payne were released Friday, May 9.
Link to storyHouston Texans third-round draft choice WR Jaylin Noel and seventh-round draft choice TE Luke Lachey signed four-year contracts with the Texans Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Noel is a hyper quick receiver who can get open in tight spaces. In addition to what he can do as a slot receiver, Noel should contribute on special teams as a returner. Lachey had a knee injury a few years ago at Iowa, and he would've been a higher draft pick if not for that injury. There's some TJ Hockenson to his game, but he's clearly got to stay healthy and prove himself as a late-round pick. |
Detroit Lions fifth-round draft choice OG Miles Frazier, sixth-round draft choice DE Ahmed Hassanein, seventh-round draft choice WR Dominic Lovett and seventh-round draft choice S Dan Jackson signed four-year contracts with the Lions Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyDetroit Lions DT Tyleik Williams (undisclosed) was limited during practice Friday, May 9, after a fall that caused an injury. He said the limited participation was a precaution.
Link to storyNew York Giants WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey was released Friday, May 9, according to a source.

Chicago Bears TE Colston Loveland (shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, May 9, because he is recovering from shoulder surgery, according to head coach Ben Johnson.
Footballguys view: Loveland's shoulder surgery is going to keep him out of action for the early part of the offseason. When training camp gets here, Loveland should be out there at least in a limited fashion. |
Atlanta Falcons third-round draft choice S Xavier Watts, fourth-round draft choice S Billy Bowman Jr. and seventh-round draft choice OT Jack Nelson signed four-year contracts with the Falcons Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyBuffalo Bills third-round pick DE Landon Jackson, fifth-round pick DB Jordan Hancock, fifth-round pick TE Jackson Hawes, sixth-round pick CB Dorian Strong, sixth-round pick OT Chase Lundt and seventh-round pick WR Kaden Prawther signed undisclosed four-year deals Friday, May 7.
Footballguys view: Hawes is a player we will monitor in deep dynasty formats. A former high school linebacker, Hawes was mostly a blocker in college at Yale. He needs to develop as a route runner and we'll see if the Bills want to use him as more than a blocker. Prawther is an outside receiver with good ball skills, but he's not afraid to mix things up in the middle of the field. |
